Most influential Champions League strikers right now

On the biggest stage for club football in the world, the Champions League is where the game’s greats pull out all the stops. With that said, it’s the strikers that ultimately gain a lot of the glory, with sensational goals that will stand the test of time. You can even wager on who the top striker in the competition might be, as done at Coral betting. And since we are now approaching the end of the group stage, it seems appropriate to discuss who the top strikers are right now.

We’ve already witnessed some unbelievable goals in the competition, but three guys just seem to be on another level.

Clinical Champions League strikers

Robert Lewandowski

Lewandowski is in the form of his life. Dare we say it – he is the best striker on the face of the Earth right now. He just seems to score goals for fun these days, no matter where he is on the field. And currently, he is the top scorer in the Champions League with 8 goals to his name. This tally includes a rather sensational hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s clash with Benfica. He can find the back of the net with both right and left feet, and when you don’t think that a strike is possible, he seems to make it happen. We wouldn’t be at all surprised if he finished as the top striker in the competition this year.

Sebastien Haller

Haller is very much a surprise entry on this list given the talented strikers that other teams possess. However, as the saying goes, numbers don’t lie. While Robert Lewandowski has 8 goals, Haller has 7. Being just one goal behind the most clinical striker on the planet is by no means a small achievement! Haller, of course, plays for Ajax, and amazingly, he scored 4 goals on his Champions League debut against Sporting CP. This is something that we just haven’t seen in recent years, and it really does show that Haller is a force to be reckoned with.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Mr Champions League just had to make it onto this list, right? Even at 36 years of age, the guy’s talent and hunger for scoring goals in this tournament just seem to know no boundaries. Now, Ronaldo is currently on 5 Champions League goals. This puts him equal with Mo Salah and Christopher Nkunku, but we’ve put him above them for two reasons really. For starters, Manchester United have been playing some pretty woeful football by their standards. So the fact that he’s managed to score 5 goals with the way they are playing is remarkable.

But above this, the necessity of the goals he’s scored make them most impressive. He has scored multiple last-minute goals to help United get a draw or victory. And without his goals alone, United would be at the bottom of the table, with no real chance of qualifying.
