Hertha Berlin and Schalke 04 will trade tackles at the Olympiastadion for their second meeting of the 2024/25 2. Bundesliga campaign.
As of the time of writing, Hertha Berlin have garnered 22 points and they sit in 12th position on the log after 17 games played. Schalke 04 have 20 points from the same number of games and they are 13th on the log.
A game between Hertha Berlin and Schalke was a Bundesliga fixture just a few years back, but fortunes have changed for both teams and they are trying to work their way back up to the topflight. Hertha Berlin have fared better this term and it is evident in their position on the log currently.
Hertha Berlin started the season without a win in their first two games. Die Alte Dame lost to Paderborn in their opening game before a 1-1 draw with Hamburg. The next two games against Regensburg produced a 2-0 win her courtesy of late goals from Felix Gebhardt (own goal) and Florian Niederlechner. Berlin then edged Kaiserslautern in a seven-goal thriller. Luca Schuler grabbed a brace to lead his side to their second league win of the season. Hertha lost 2-0 to Dusseldorf before returning to winning ways with a 2-0 at Nurnberg. Back to the capital, Hertha lost once again before they managed to secure a point against Schalke 04. The next three games in all competitions for Hertha produced comfortable wins. However, they slumped into a miserable run that has left them with just a win in their past eight matches in all competitions.
At the time of writing, Hertha have drawn one and lost two of their past three matches. They ended 2024 without a win in December. They head into 2025 with a poor form and will be keen to get things going before this fixture is played in the capital.
As for Schalke 04, they made a terrible start to the campaign and it seems they might be involved in the relegation dogfight this term at first. However, they have grabbed some nice results to sit six points above the drop zone at the time of writing. Die Königsblauen started the season with a 5-1 drubbing of Braunschweig and many thought they had arrived, but they have failed to build on that performance since then. In the following game of the season at Nurnberg, Schalke lost 3-1 before they bounced back in the DFB Pokal to progress past Aalen. In 2. Bundesliga, Schalke then went on a four-game winless run – a draw with Magdeburg before three consecutive losses at the hands of FC Koln, Karlsruher, and Darmstadt.
Schalke 04 eventually snapped that poor run with a 2-1 away win over Munster in late September and they have not won any game since then. The draw at Hertha Berlin to start October was followed by three consecutive losses in all competitions – Hannover Furth and Augsburg. After a winless run in October, Die Königsblauen started November with a goalless away at Ulm and will head to the international break without a win in five games.
This game is quite huge between Hertha and Schalke, and both are at the same end of the table at the time of writing. Hertha are battling for form despite their decent position on the log, while Schalke have been aiming to pull away from the bottom zone.
The past three meetings between the two teams in 2. Bundesliga have been dominated by Hertha Berlin (W2 D1) and they have been slightly better this season as well. The last time Schalke won in this fixture was in the DFB Pokal in 2023. In addition, Die Königsblauen have not won away at Hertha since 2017. It is a big ask for Schalke at the moment, but Hertha’s stuttering form could offer some hope.
It is a fixture that produces goals, so there are expectations that this one would not be an exception.

Prediction
Hertha Berlin and Schalke 04 have not been far from each other this campaign. The pair are only separated by two points at the time of writing. Hertha are winless in their past three matches at home in the league. In this fixture, Die Alte Dame have won the past three meetings between them. Getting Hertha Berlin tickets on time should be a priority.
On the other hand, Schalke have been poor all season as they have lost 7 of their first 17 games. They are up against a team that is slightly higher than them on the log, and they have not beaten in nearly seven years.
With that being said, one cannot look past a win for the home side or a draw at least.
