FPL 2025 – 2026: Gameweek 6 preview

Last week, we had to take keep an eye on Europe when preparing for Gameweek 5, as the Champions League was in full swing. This week, it’s more of the same but with the Europa League this time, which features two Premier League sides, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

Forest have already played their midweek European match, away at LaLiga side Real Betis, which ended in 2-2. Brazilian forward Igor Jesus, who was brought in from Botafogo for around £10 million, scored both of the English goals. They have now got a home game against Sunderland coming up on Saturday, which will surely attract some attention in the FPL community.

Villa still have their midweek Europa League game to play on Thursday night at home against Italian side Bologna. This game is also worth keeping an eye on as the home side are playing Fulham at home in the Premier League on Sunday, followed by Burnley at home in GW7. Even though the Villans have not had a smooth start to their 2025 – 2025 campaign, we expect some interest in their assets for those two favourable upcoming Gameweeks.

Don’t forget, the deadline for Gameweek 6 is set at 11h00 (UK time) on Saturday, September 27th, 2025. The free to play FPL or pay to play season/weekend/daily games like FanTeam are ideal ways of following the Premier League action.

Premium pick

4 goals in his last three league games and 6 goals in the first five league games of the season overall. Those are the numbers of Erling Haaland (£14.3m) if you look them up right now, as plenty of managers are doing. We know that our premium fantasy pick category has been a bit Salah-centred so far this season, but that doesn’t mean that the other premium options in the official fantasy game are not worth considering. At the moment, we would even say that Haaland is probably the most appealing ultra-premium pick as he is approaching that coveted “form plus fixture territory”. After scoring away at Brighton in GW3, twice at home to Man United in GW4 and once more in the away game against Arsenal last weekend, the Norwegian striker is now set to face promoted Burnley at the Etihad. And that’s not all, because it’s Brentford away and Everton at home after that for the Cityzens. In other words, Haaland is going into a decent little run of fixtures in great form, which will hopefully translate in a few more attacking returns over the short and medium term.

Non-premium pick

Mohamed Kudus (£6.6m) got off to a great start at Spurs after transferring from West ham for around £55 million this summer. In his first official league game for his new club, he immediately showed his qualities with 2 assists at home to Burnley. That performance also confirmed what many fantasy managers were thinking in the build-up to Gameweek 1: “This Kudus guy could be gold for Spurs”. The Ghana international then dropped off a bit after that, at least in FPL terms, but came back with a vengeance last weekend as he got another brace of assists away at Brighton. Kudus is a nailed-on part of new manager Thomas Frank’s starting eleven and with a home game against Wolves coming up (followed by a visit to Leeds), we feel the former Ajax star can provide decent value over the coming weeks. Starting with Wolves, who have not yet gotten a single point so far this season and who have already conceded 12 goals in their first five league outings. The way Spurs have been playing so far this season, we expect this to be a comfortable win for the home side, hopefully with a couple of goals to boot and some valuable involvement from Kudus when that does happen.

The budget enabler

Thanks to Tottenham’s good form and favourable fixtures in the immediate future, our budget enabler for Gameweek 6 also comes from the Spurs roster. It’s central defender Micky van de Ven (£4.7m), whose price has already risen twice this season. With his physical strength, his speed and his tactical awareness, the Dutchman has quickly become a key figure for Thomas Frank and that has resulted in more than decent FPL scores as well. Van de Ven has already recorded 3 clean sheets this season and he also scored his first goal of the season back in Gameweek 4 against West Ham. Where we see attacking potential for his teammate Kudus as our non-premium fantasy pick for Gameweek 6, we see defensive potential for Van de Ven this weekend as well. Opponent Wolves have yet to win a game and they have scored just three goals in their first five league outings. Perhaps more importantly though, is that they have not yet scored an away goal this season. With Wolves in such dire form, followed by Leeds at Elland Road in Gameweek 7, Aston Villa (who have scored just a single league goal overall so far) at home in Gameweek 8 and a visit to Everton in Gameweek 9, there could very well be a few more clean sheets on the cards for Spurs soon.

The differential

We are making it two and two in this FPL Gameweek 6 preview, as we are picking Phil Foden (£8.0m) differential fantasy pick for the weekend. The England international had a difficult 2024 – 2025 season with just 7 goals and 3 assists for a total of 105 FPL points, but the season prior definitely showed what he is capable of. In 33 league starts that year, Foden got no less than 19 goals and 8 assists, and an incredible 230 FPL points. He has not yet shown he’s back at that level exactly, but his man-of-the-match performance against arch-rivals Manchester United in Gameweek 4 reminded us of his potential. Seeing as he looks guaranteed to start this weekend at home against Burnley, and considering his current 3.9% ownership in the official fantasy game, he might be a shrewd differential fantasy pick. No team has had more chances created against them than Burnley so far this season and that’s not all, because the fixtures after the Clarets don’t look too bad, either: Brentford away, Everton at home, a struggling Aston Villa away and then Bournemouth at home. As usual, it’s difficult to say how many minutes Foden will get from Pep Guardiola over that run, but for those managers looking for a serious differential, Stockport Messi is worth considering.

The (vice-)captaincy

With Manchester City hosting Burnley this weekend, we are putting the armband on Erling Haaland’s arm. The Norwegian is in great form and has delivered an average of 9.2 FPL points per game so far this season. Against the Clarets, who have conceded more shots and more shots in the box than any other team in the entire league, we hope he can grow that average even further.

The best alternative for Haaland is obviously Mohamed Salah, for Liverpool’s visit to Crystal Palace, but we understand that not everyone has the two ultra-premiums in their squad. Slightly more affordable alternatives to Haaland therefore are Richarlison or Mohamed Kudus at home to Wolves, Joao Pedro for Chelsea’s home game against his former team Brighton, and perhaps even Jack Grealish when Everton welcomes West Ham to their new stadium.
