I only started watching Vigil because I thought it was on consecutive nights with it being Sunday - Monday...... but now we have to wait. Not happy.

They like doing that bank holiday double-header trick…

I think it’s good in this streaming/on-demand world that it’s not just sport and reality crap that people watch “live” and can discuss and build up the anticipation for the next episode etc. Mind you, some people would probably binge-watch a Premier League season if it was possible…

I was going to watch it but the idea of Suranne Jones in the lead role of Vigil Van Dijk put me off

(Previously there was a film called Rush where the main character looked nothing like Ian so I didn't watch that either)

Wish I'd used that logic on the remake of Van Der Vaart. It was rubbish and the blonde bloke out of Hustle looked nothing like him - didn't even dye his hair.

I’ve stumbled across a brilliant series (5 seasons) which is nearly 20 years old called six feet under which apparently is highly acclaimed at the same breaking bad type levels of acclaim. We’re loving it nearly finished season 1. Anyone watched it? It’s on sky Atlantic. It features a very young “dexter” but the writing and acting is top notch. Upscaling not overly great due to the original airing date.

Wiki entry :-
Six Feet Under received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for its writing and acting, and consistently drew high ratings for the HBO network. It is regarded as one of the greatest television series of all time, included on best-of lists by Time,[1] The Guardian,[2] and Empire.[3] The show's finale has also been described as one of the greatest television series finales.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] The series won numerous awards, including nine Emmy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Peabody Awar

It often seems to get left out of current debates about the greatest series in the noughties golden age (Sopranos, Wire, BB) but it is superb. One of the first to transfer Hollywood production values and talent into long TV series. And yes, when you get to the final episode they did one of the best there too.

We are well into S2 and no let up in quality. A shame it’s a bit dated but doesn’t detract too much. Going to keep us going a while!

Yeah, thought it was pretty decent and brought back a lot of memories, though a bit too focused on United/Cantona and Blackburn/Shearer - I know you can’t cover everything, but surprise pacesetters Norwich I don’t think even got a mention, and United’s eventual main title rivals Villa barely did.

Guess next episode will be the kung-fu kick, so yet more Eric… it’s certainly a “where were you” moment anyway (listening to a Forest match on Radio Nottingham, myself!)

A few nights ago I found online 'Valley of Tears' (in Arabic & Hebrew with English subtitles).

Image

Premise: On October 6th 1973, the Middle East was shaken by the biggest war it had ever seen. A war that should have been the last one, and that forever changed the region.

I found it a good watch and look forward to season 2 - supposedly focusing on the Southern frontline.

If you wanna stream it for free (with English subtitles) this is where I found it:

If you wish to read my full review on this 10 part series you can in my 'Box Set and TV Series' review group on Facebook here:

Not only Only Fools but brilliant in the under-rated spin off Green Green Grass.

Interesting way of watching series… not sure how you can get as far as the start of season 5 of BB without binging the rest, even if some find the early series take a bit of getting into!

Yep, once I start something these days I'll binge that series at least. Only usually have 1 or 2 on the go at once - or watch them as they arrive like Vigil at the mo. Often have 1 series in the go that I watch with Mrs M and 1 I that I watch alone. I guess that only applies to ongoing dramas, some things such as comedies or things that are mostly stand alone episodes (like Elementary/Sherlock in that list when I was watching them) then I/we can be a bit more relaxed about but, generally, I'd rather work my way to the end before starting something else - a bit like I would reading a book.

With multiple series I discover then I'll rest a while between series but nothing like a year. Again, like a series of books. Once caught up then I have to watch the next when it comes out (again like a book series).

Now I know why she says let's watch The Sopranos instead.

Vigil which finished last night was good (not quite great), slightly OTT in places. Liked the action and the way they linked the 2 stories (on and off board) but the back story/character stuff was dull rubbish, it felt like forced PC lesbianism (which you didn't really buy into) and the mental health/confinement stuff didn't really come off either. 7/10

They slightly overdid the back-story stuff but sounds like that was deliberate to set it aside from the average murder mystery thriller. But putting it on a submarine surely achieved that in itself.

Talk of a follow-up but as with Robb Stark’s ‘Bodyguard’ it feels like a one-off self-contained story to which any sequel would be tenuous. Pretty good on the whole and certainly ticked all the now established BBC Sunday night blockbuster boxes, anyway.

Just watched Squid Games on Netflix and can’t work out if I liked it or not.

Worth a watch if you’re into gory death scenes and Saw.

I think Vigil and Bodyguard could be milked for second series but they would have to totally change the plot and just use the same characters. Must be some way to get Suranne Jones and Ygritte working in separate locations on the same case without using a submarine. Maybe use a (Erika Eliniak free-) train like that Stephen Segal one or a milkfloat like they did in Speed 2 (or was that something else  ).
