SPOTY 2011 THOUGHTS:

Unlikely to be someone from these Sports:

F1 - Can See Vettel winning again, but Mclaren can fight back.

Jockey - No

Athlete - World Championships, only athlete with a chance is Ennis but she never quite achieves winning SPOTY.

Tennis - No Murray is crap and has no personality.

Footballer - No Major International Tournaments (only footy players that have a chance of winning are Scholes or Giggs again) Need to win the league and champions league though!

Cricketer - No Chance

Rugby - Yes England won the six Nations but I doubt they have what it takes to beat NZ.

Boxing - David Haye maybe, if he destroys Klitchko, but Boxing is not a huge fans favorite.

Golf - The UK have many top golfers so it could be a Golfer this year?

Narrowing it down its got to be between the following sportsmen:

Likely: Any UK Golfer, Any major England Rugby player (Ashton), (Flood), Hamilton.

Maybe: Scholes, Giggs (Yes I think he could get it again if he wins the CL and League AGAIN!, he is a legend, I won £1500 when he won SPOTY 2 years ago)

Currently Mcilroy is waaay ahead in The Masters and he's 33-1 with StanJames to be SPOTY worth a gamble?

Hes 9/2 to win The Masters now, if he wins this tournament he will surely get SPOTY so the 33-1 would be the obvious choice to take.

After yesterday, I wonder if Sam Whaley Cohen could win this award.

He has won the Gold Cup, King George and 2nd in the national.

Might stick something on him.

And did them on terrestrial tv

Despite being an amateur, he has not had cancer et al, so no chance, shirley?

Very unlikely.
Most people still won't know who he is. Bob Champion only won it because as Blah says, it was a human story.

Think this is between Ennis, Westwood and Donald this year.

probably worth a tenner on each, and if one wins you will be quids up.

I mean who else has a chance?

England won't win Rugby World cup, Murray won't win anything.

Only other person in my view who could be a dark horse is Paul Scholes. 80-1.

You definitely ruling Giggs out now then Footy66

Can't Imogen why... Boom Boom.

My money is on Donald...can see him getting better throughout the year and hopefully win a major in the process. He's currently trading at 11/1 on betfair.

Donald needs a Major, imho.

There are no stand-outs to date, except Cavendish.

Murray is having his trickiest game to get to the Final in France (Nadal is way off the pace).

Does Ennis have any major comps this year?

Tom's dad has just died.......

Although we are better across the board than we have been for a while; we have no soaring stars.

I agree that golfers need a major as does Murray to have a chance.

Ennis has the world championship athletics so its a big thing to win. Needs gold of course and she should get it. Always is a popular vote in SPOTY in recent years.

Cavendish actually did get a lot of votes 2 years ago but Ennis will get a hell of a lot more votes than him if she gets gold.

So I am sticking to Ennis, Westwood or Donald.

I am hoping Murray finishes off his match tomorrow with a win so that he goes back to favorite and Ennis goes back to at least 7-1 like she was yesterday. Thats when to get on it. Like I said I'll prob just wack a 10er on my top 3 to stay safe.

Ennis is rightly favourite, as should win her major event, unlike most of the others (e.g. Westwood/Donald). Risk with Ennis is that people wait until the Olympics. People appear not to like Donald either, so would prefer to be on Westwood, as can see Donald losing out even if he does win a major.

Haye in with a shout, the Klitschko fight has been well hyped, and if he wins I think he will get it.

Murray isn't good enough.

Cook in with an outside shout if he keeps going - they'll make a big deal out of the Ashes as the end was in 2011, but can't see it.

A shame Trump didn't win the snooker, as I have money on him, and he could have won it!

Is there a major diving contest this year?
If Tom Daley wins then he has a great chance of SPOTY

Westwood is a lot more popular than Donald on Twitter.

Haye has no chance in my view, simply look at that stats in past 2 years especially when he beat Valuev he only got 13,000 votes. People like Murray, Daley, Tweddle, Cavendish all beat him and they did not do anything special and are all in minor sports.

It does shock me a bit that Daley got 50,000 votes last year only just behind Mcdowell 52,000 votes and Westwood 58,000. There is a world aquatics championships this year so if he wins that then maybe, though ennis finished above him in the passed 2 years.

I am totally serious about this:

Lets all start getting 200,000 people together and vote and bet on the same person. There are 11036 Fiso members if we all get just 10 friends each to vote as well we will all be rich. Or a lot easier way... All 11036 FISO'ers vote 10 times each.

This could quite easily be done.

Ryan Giggs for UK with Sep Blatter as International SPOTY now if you can make that happen the odds would be tremendous.

Personally I think it should be Cavendish if he repeats his Tour de France victories.

Scholes is the new Ryan Giggs. 60-1 if he gets in the top 10 everyone will vote for him.

Ennis dropping in price again.......Put your life savings on her before she drops in price any further.

I am still not convinced by her winning it - not that I have a reasonable alternative (some kid has just won at Queen's so might be worth a shout if he does something at Wimbledon).

If Cav wins the World Championships as well as multiple TdF stage wins then he might be in with a chance. Green jersey would help as well. Othrwise I doubt it. If he was Italian, French or Belgian he'd be a national hero, but people don't follow cycling in the UK.

More likely Ennis or Daley if either of them win Gold at the Worlds.

It won't be that big a story if Ennis wins the Worlds, although not being unattractive will increase the coverage and votes. Also with the Olympic build up the story will get amplified.

A surprise athletics winner will be a bigger story but a bigger gamble. No idea who.....

OK so maybe Ennis won't win it now lol.......Mcilroy 8 shots ahead going into the last round of the US Open tonight. I did put some money on him when he got into the lead at The Masters, he was 33-1 and I wacked £23 on him to return £782.

Just hope he doesn't blow it like he did a few months back.

I would expect Mcilroy to take Sports Personality ahead of Ennis now he has a Major win (hopefully) Worst thing for me would be Westwood fighting back to win. One thing to note is Mcdowell won the US open Last Year and putted to win the Ryder Cup and he did not come close to SPOTY. I think Mcilroy is a more well known/well-liked player and cos he's young he will get the vote.

Murray will have to do extremely well to win Wimbledon.

No-one else in my eyes has a chance other than Ennis, Mcilroy or Murray.

Reckon someone from England's rugby World Cup team could win it.

Mc Ilroy is special, they are even talking about him in France. Put your woods away and get out your mcilroys. His composure after his collapse in the previous tournament was outstanding, if he doesn't collapse tonight, he's odds on to win the BBC trophy. :P

He's now evens for SPOTY.

(And astonishingly, ante-post favourite for The Open at a shortest 5/1, Westwood next at 9s)

Politics could be a deciding factor, as bbc cover Wimbledon extensively, if Murray wins it they will be pushing his profile much more than R Mac who they see as a 'Sky' sportsman.

Don't forget Laura Robson, and the one who did well at Queen's and the other girl (both of whose name I have forgotten  ).
