Week 17
My turn I suppose:
Flange 1
Portsmouth vs Burnley
With everything to play for in this match there could be a decent game here. Burnley have only picked up 1 point away all season and Portsmouth are struggling to pay players. There may be a couple of people with enablers to star such as Alexander, Eagles, Dindane, O'Hara or Fletcher.
Flange 2
Arsenal vs Stoke City
Aston Villa vs Hull City
Blackburn Rovers vs Liverpool
West Ham United vs Manchester United
Wigan Athletic vs Birmingham City
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Bolton Wanderers
This is a interesting flange with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester Utd and Aston Villa all playing. Can Arsenal and Liverpool get back on track, will Utd close the gap on Chelsea. With this in mind the starmen from this flange are likely to come from Fabergas, Giggs, Rooney, Gerrard or Berbatov.
Flange 3
Manchester City vs Chelsea
If Manchester City are going to make the top four they need to beat teams like Chelsea. The starman from this flange is likely to be Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Anelka or Adebayor, but any player from these 2 teams could put on a show.
Flange 4
Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur
Fulham vs Sunderland
Interesting flange with Everton struggling for points and winning in Europe while Spurs are beating anyone apart from the top 4. Sunderland are beating the top 4, but are losing to the rest and Fulham proving that they have the squad to compete in all competitions. The starman here is likely to come from Defoe, Cahill, Saha or Bent.

Cheers ashers,
I only just remembered to set up my squad this weekend, after completely screwing up last weekend. Went for Elliot in the early game.

I starred KPB (0 points) ahead of burnley defender (0 points). At least I can't bemoan a bad captain pick....

Cheers Asher.
Good to see MOTM getting updated on the Match Centre.
Is it me, just seems quite a few player no shows today - hardly recognise the Man Utd line up

Doesn't sound good about Bullard , gutted for him if it's a bad one. That'll be the end of Hull's decent run then.

So far so good:
Reina, Insuna, Evra and Warnock clean sheets
Valencia goal and 1 assist
Milner * goal and 1 assist
Shame Eduardo did not play.

Re: Week 17
Top 2 teams scored 80 & 75 today & the 2 team had 2 penalty misses in it! Still, not a bad couple of scores. Got a few players tomorrow so hoping for a move up today.
Incidentally left Mijhas out of my ISO squad today due to midfield clashes & he scores - Typical!

Scores of 76, 62 and 55 today for my teams, one of those took a big leap backwards with -8 from the evening flange

Re: Week 17
Two out of three in (what was) my better squad - probably now been leapfrogged by the ISO one (despite transferring out Adebayor). Has to be said that Given was way off his line when Lampard's kick was taken and that was easily detectable in real time - what the hell were the officials watching?ashers1981 wrote:I feel sorry for anyone who has * Dindane, Fabergas and Lampard.

Only watched it once but the commenator suggested Lampard had taken it before the ref whistled so presumably the ref decided to 'punish' (/ not let off) Lampard for his impatient idiocy???AkNotSpur wrote: Has to be said that Given was way off his line when Lampard's kick was taken and that was easily detectable in real time - what the hell were the officials watching?

Re: Week 17
Boy this game can stir up mixed emotions with scenarios that in most situations would have you jumping for joy
To eloborate, my leading team scored 56. Of that 56, 42 points were contributed from my 8 defenders which in normal circumstances would have you bouncing off walls. Not this weekend Only 16 points chipped in from shite penalty efforts & those players partial to a yellow card & a no show chaser. (Eduardo for RVP has really pushed my campaign along hasn't it ) Thank goodness Rooney scored or it would of been a score under 50 with a defence that went off
All in all, when your defefenders fetch you 42, you start rubbing your hands in anticipation for a tidy 100+ score. Need a big showing now from Jermaine & Darren for that proposition to come to fruition. Unlikely away from home
ISO managed 64 which was okay I guess, but my other 2 teams only managed 40 odd & embarrisingly my now converted 5 defender Chelsea block (this team was cactus after Torres went down & Berbatov made up the numbers) could not push past 44 with Terry captained RIP my crappier than ever team

Re: Week 17
I don't know about that Murf - I've seen TV referrals in Rugby League completed in less time than it took for that spot kick to be taken. I was trying to keep my 4 year old son's attention so that he'd see the penalty, but he got bored waiting. Don't know why officials are so reluctant to police this rule these days (and it doesn't need video technolgy, just an alert assistant ref) - I remember a classic 3-takes duel between Hoddle & Shilton in a League Cup game back in 81/82.murf wrote:Only watched it once but the commentator suggested Lampard had taken it before the ref whistled so presumably the ref decided to 'punish' (/ not let off) Lampard for his impatient idiocy???AkNotSpur wrote: Has to be said that Given was way off his line when Lampard's kick was taken and that was easily detectable in real time - what the hell were the officials watching?

Re: Week 17
After many weeks of frustration, team selection and starman choices finally go right for me. 83 is the best of my 3 teams yesterday.
Burnt a couple of transfers bringing Bullard in so fingers crossed for him that there is no long term damage to the knee.

Back into to top 100 after a slip to 293 in recent weeks (Had major injuries and had to rebuild team).
Why did I star Barry over Lampard? Not sure, but is stopped me from getting minus points.

Points today: Lowest 5, average 13 and highest 19
Weekend average of 74 points (which I suspect may be about average)
Surprised Defoe got tossed the MOTM. I guess the OPTA stats must really reward shots on target.
In my mind 15 passes with a 73% accuracy and 9 shots with 1 goal and a penalty miss don't suggest a MOTM performance for a striker. Still I guess stats don't always show the whole picture... anyone who saw the match care to add their thoughts?

Re: Week 17
Didn't see the game MV but did notice your nice little lead this morning . No idea how these MOTM's get awarded but yet again this weekend it's all midfielders & strikers picking them up (plus an attacking full back - but that's pretty rare).
Mine all got between 15-23 today so not expecting much movement. Finished the weekend on 108, 80 (ISO), 61, 47 & 46. Best sides all changing places again, beginning to get within a sniff of the leaderboard but still miles off the likes of you MV.

Re: Week 17
MV, in response, I saw the game & thought Lennon ran the show for Spurs - Still I would be swaying towards him as him in top 2 teams & not Defoe. Thought the Everton tight back who came on for Yobo did well, had a hand in both goals as well.MindVampire wrote:Points today: Lowest 5, average 13 and highest 19

Still, I have benefitted from dodgy MOTM awards this season so can't have them all!
