Things looking good now (in the garden).
Just looking out on a beautiful Mountain Ash. Rich, ripe orange berries hanging in tight, small clusters. Wonderful.

Anyway. On a serious note. Where is this view, Glyn?

Whatever happened to this thread? And it started so badly.
But glancing over my shoulder at the moment I see ripening fruit on an old apple tree - bright red and showing lots of promise. In a week or two the kids can start eating again.

My crocosmia has probably been my star turn this year. My acer's are looking nice and will begin to turn soon and my parsnips fill me with pride, although I have a couple of posh fir trees that have passed away.
The oak tree is looking majestic but looks like it could be quite a big plant.

Same here. Mine went mad, far more than last year, going to have to thin them out next year. My Lucifers are virtually over but some of the smaller ones are still shining.Spinynorman wrote:My crocosmia has probably been my star turn this year.
Garden is starting to look a bit past its peak already to be honest. Hanging baskets are a bit patchy after suffering when I went on holiday and half the plants in them died or withered right back.

You can't feed your kids until you sell your apple crop? Blimey, thinks must be tough in the Glyn household.Glyn1972 wrote:Whatever happened to this thread? And it started so badly.

Would love to know a bit more about gardening, but time and patience eludes me at the moment. I go for the ultra low maintenance (and child friendly) grass, bark and chippings approach.

It might be easier to sell the kids than the apples.unc.si wrote:You can't feed your kids until you sell your apple crop? Blimey, thinks must be tough in the Glyn household.Glyn1972 wrote:Whatever happened to this thread? And it started so badly.

Your child friendly garden might be even more friendly with loads of plants in which kids can hide and explore between. Tougher shrubs required of course. Loads of shrubs are easier to maintain than grass for your benefit too. Mowing takes a lot of time as does raking, feeding and watering - all time you could be tinkering like me... Maybe that's where I'm going wrong; I need more lawn and my TFF scores will go up.

This is the view from my bedroom window looking out over my garden and beyond to the hills rolling down to the Solway Firth. City Slickers eat your hearts out.

I've just started harvesting the earlier, smaller apples from my two huge backyard trees. Red and luscious. Soon I will pick a bunch for the girlfriend to turn into some apple pies.

We have a huge and very old apple tree that is way past it's best we we are now starting to collect the wind falls. It's a sure sign that autumn is on it's way.
It's time for some crumble.

Re: Things looking good now (in the garden).
Having paused from my work to look into this thread (which seems to have gone delightfully off track), it has given me the opportunity to glance down the old yard once again. I am currently viewing a fairly immature, deep red maple peeking through the foliage of two shimmering birch trees holding onto the last of last nights rain. Magic.
