Re: Let it happen bass player (HMHB thread)
Are these the most random lyrics ever - I was trying to make them out on the ipod this morning and looked them up.
Four skinny Indie Kids - from Four Lads Who Shook The Wirral
Bleak cheap interview
Pool cue fancy pants
Chic Bates apricot
Short term sweat
Hamstring monument
Shark shit welterweight
Topsoil Chapterhouse
Christ-like mince
Four Skinny Indie Kids
Four Skinny Indie Kids
Drinking weak lager in a Camden boozer

Drinking weak lager in a Camden boozer
Sanskrit tantamount
Slide flag Dunstable
Late pen Saltergate
Belsize squat
Tripswitch hinterland
Slack jaw Boys Brigade
Krooklok Murgatroyd
Website nonce
I also cannot stop thinking of the phrase "rubber faced irritant, Phil Cool" from National Sh1te day.

You could get the Saucy Haulage Ballads EP thrown in for a fiver. Two good tracks in 'Tending the wrong grave for 23 years' and 'It makes the room look bigger'.
Other than that it's a tie between 4 Lads and Cammell Laird Social Club.
Get 4 Lads. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks - I have been offered 'an alternative route' to all these so may well not (need to) purchase any of them.tedbull wrote:You could get the Saucy Haulage Ballads EP thrown in for a fiver. Two good tracks in 'Tending the wrong grave for 23 years' and 'It makes the room look bigger'.

While we're on the topic. Is everyone on this thread 'of a certain age'? I spent most of my life living on The Wirral and Liverpool and regularly went to probably the only alternative/indie club in Birkenhead (and many in Liverpool) yet never really came across HMHB. It was only an Everton fanzine that sparked my curiosity in my 20s.

Re: Let it happen bass player (HMHB thread)
I was at Uni when HMHB were at their biggest (first 2 albums) so was exposed that way. Never saw them live which is a bit weird as I went to loads of concerts at the time, some in Scouseland. Would have thought I'd have definitely gone if they played anywhere in Mancland. Maybe they didn't tour???

I actually bought the vinyl second hand and due to a removed sticker on the cover for years I though it was reflections in a fiat.

Second verse just as good
Since I was eight I’ve loved you
Through garden gates I’ve shoved you
Then there’s the time I slashed you
And you had to go to hospital

Re: Let it happen bass player (HMHB thread)
Definitely my favourite ever HMHB lyric.
Doesn't look so good on paper/forum but the timing of the dodgy (non) rhymes is excellent as well as the Marks and Spencer / Lech Walesa one.
Also the Uncle Trevor story.....

One of my favourites is from Improv Workshop Mimeshow Gobshite (or 'the one about being the big cheese down at tourist information' as I know it)

While we're on favourite lyrics... From 'Tending the wrong grave for 23 years'
Curse those in charge of plots
Curse these forget-me-nots
I've been sharing my inner-most thoughts with an Edward McGray
I'm inconsolable and at times uncontrollable
Ah but she wouldn't know because she's two hundred metres away
Lets complain

Surging Out of Convalescence [Achtung Bono]
Darts in soap operas
Oh so wrong oh so wrong
No one scoring and there's
Too much chat between each throw
Worse than this though is when
Cheers are raised up for a bull
Granted, bull's a double and an out
But I know that they don't know
Therefore I propose no soap darts

Re: Let it happen bass player (HMHB thread)
Tale of a Baker’s Son
Once upon a time there was a baker
Who spent all day making buns or cakes or
Rolls or loaves of bread or muffins
And he loved his work but it wasn’t enough and…
He longed to offer up his heart
to not just any tart,
but to one of substance and of virtue
but suitable candidates were oh so few.
Nigel Blackwell, pray please do tell:
How could your parents risk it?
A baker’s son, born of a bun…
Half a man, half a biscuit
He gently took her from the oven
Her sweet scent set off waves of loving
His eyes beheld her flakey crust.
He thought, ‘I mustn’t… but I must!’
Alas, Nigel’s dad could not resist her
He held her close and then he kissed her
Before another word was uttered
His momma’s buns were buttered
Nigel Blackwell, pray please do tell:
How could your parents risk it?
A baker’s son, born of a bun…
Half a man, half a biscuit
And so, please mark this poignant tale
Next time you see baked goods for sale
Which proves true love defies convention
(And leads to couplings we can’t mention)
And so, it comes as no surprise,
The kneady baker’s dough did rise
Though some may scoff, deride and scorn
From such forbidden love, Nigel was born.
Nigel Blackwell, pray please do tell:
How could your parents risk it?

Half a man, half a biscuit

The band recorded a radio session for Marc Riley's 6 Music show in in August 2010, performing four new songs - "Tommy Walsh's Eco-House", "R.S.V.P.", "Left Lyrics in Practice Room", and "L'enfer c'est les autres". Nigel stated that they hoped to finish recording their new album "by Christmas".

If anybody knows of any highly illegal bootleg MP3 recordings of that session then please PM me the interweb link so I can report them to the authorities because I obvioulsy wouldn't want to do anything illegal like downloading them.
(Was listening to The Leaden Pall this week - possibly for the first time in about 15 years, using up my eMusic credits to replace a tape I once had and probably still do have somewhere in my loft (next to my subbuteo and scalextric??))

I was aware of the 6music campaign but hadn't heard anything about a new album or live session.
Only checked the wiki because I was chatting to a Hare Krishna guy at work and felt the need to throw Twydale's Lament into the convo
