Tour of FPL - stage 3 results

For years I've loved both the Tour de France and Fantasy Football.

This year after several seasons of leading the FISOlympic Committee (on and off) I finally asked myself a simple question:

Could an FPL season be run like a Grand Tour?

Thirty stages.
A Grand Départ.
Sprint finishes.
Mountain days.
Time trials.
A race for yellow that lasts the whole season.

It was being quietly trialled at the back end of last season, and with Le Tour still on and FPL launching today, it seemed like the right moment to share the concept to a waking FISO world.

Full rules and sign on instructions to follow, but for now, just watch this space.

Welcome to Mystery's inaugural Tour of FPL.

Tour of FPL is a season-long side game that runs alongside Fantasy Premier League, transforming the 38 Gameweeks into a 30-stage Grand Tour. Rather than simply accumulating FPL points, riders compete for stage victories, the General Classification, the Green Jersey and the King of the Mountains using different elements of the official FPL scoring system.

Just as in the real Tour de France, different riders excel on different terrain. Flat stages favour one type of FPL squad, mountain stages another, while time trials and cobbled stages present their own unique challenges. Success over the course of the Tour will require consistency, versatility and perhaps a little luck.

Stage Timing

Stage times are derived from FPL scores or specific elements of them, depending on the terrain profile. Each stage type uses its own scoring method and conversion rate, meaning the strongest FPL score will not necessarily win every stage.

Like real road racing, bunch finishes apply on most stages. Riders finishing within the defined scoring threshold are considered to have crossed the line together and are awarded the same stage time. The bunching threshold and the value of each FPL point vary according to the stage profile.

Time penalties may also be incurred for racing incidents including red cards, own goals and missed penalties. Cobbled stages feature additional discipline penalties, making them among the most unpredictable days of the race.

Bunching Example

On a flat stage with a bunching threshold of 3 points, riders scoring 62, 61 and 60 would all receive the same finishing time. A rider scoring 58 would form the next group and receive a time gap based on the scoring difference.

The stage types

Flat - score based on points scored by either midfielders, defenders or combination of keepers / forwards from whole squad of 15, captain chips don't count. 1 point = 3 seconds. A gap of less than 3 points results in all riders getting same time.

Cobbles - score is based on total points for all 15 players, chips don't count. Lots of potential for incident penalties. 1 point = 3 seconds. A gap of less than 3 points results in all riders getting same time.

Hilly - score based on number of defensive contributions from all 15 players. 1 point = 3 seconds. A gap of less than 2 points results in all riders getting same time.

Mountain - score based on GW score. 1 point = 8 seconds. A gap of less than 2 points results in all riders getting same time.

Individual Time Trial - score based on total BPS from all 15 players. 1 BPS = 2 seconds. Bunching not applied.

Penalties
In all stages, red cards are penalised by an effective 60 seconds, own goals 30 seconds and missed penalties 20 seconds. In cobbled stages only, yellow cards are worth 20 seconds. Also only in cobbled stages, clean sheet points are reduced - 1 off for a midfielder, 3 for a defender.
