Ideas to keep forum lively in off season / FANTASY WC DISCUSSION

Post by NorthBankRedemption »

MLS fantasy? Have they realigned their calendar yet?

Podcast?

Share recipes? I heard blah has one for a good North London lasagne

Open to any and all ideas. June and July are historically low volume as people have lived

Norwegian Eliteserien fantasy football, we are only up to round 7 atm, so there are mini leagues and cups to play for.

Blah will have a recipe for Norfolk Dumplings,Norfolk Shortcakes, Norfolk Fair Buttons · Norfolk (and Suffolk) Treacle Tart, Yarmouth Straws and Norfolk Vinegar Cake, not sure about his cockney lasagne.

Maybe FIFA could organise a summer tournament for countries and the Telegraph could organise a Fantasy Football game for it?

Something with bonus points for what you would have got if it wasn't for bad refs and VAR decisions?

🤣😂🤣

The financial implications could be bigger than the Stadium and they'll be left with only the players no one wants.....

Unfortunately Wham's fixtures are far worse, and predicting their squad is hardly fun at all.

Bodø may have loads of cash, but earned from Euro adventures.

Apparently they and Tromso were banned for being too far north 😂

The FFH forum I'm in says the Telegraph won't be running a WC game (sorry murf). Not sure if the Sun is doing one. I guess we are left with the FIFA one or fanteam.

Looks as though the Sun will be launching some kind of game after the CL final.

Pure Fantasy World Cup. Pick the 11 you think will score more points. No transfers, no doggy chance. Just like the days before the internet.

Gone are the days of getting in to town on Saturday evening waiting for the green or pink post to arrive for all the results. The tele results weren't enough, we didn't remember them. We wanted time to study the table. Done with a push of the button nowadays.

Yeah, you couldn’t even pause and rewind Final Score back then!

Classified results and then the presenter talking through the tables still has a certain something that no app can replace. Shame nobody seems to employ a “proper” results reader with the correct win/lose/draw intonation any more, it’s just the lead presenter reading them out like a shopping list, or in the case of Sports Report, not at all.

Though there is still an AI JAG Twitter account (done with permission of his family), I think!

I think I was about eight before I realised my team wasn’t actually called Hartlepool Nil. :-)

Thankfully that all changed though when I was about twelve when we changed name to Hartlepool United Nil. ;-)

We were all waiting for the infamous East Fife 4 Forfar 5.

Happened in a penalty shoot-out a few years ago, I seem to remember. Loses something when you give them their full title of “Forfar Athletic”, though…

With the old results readers you could tell whether the home team had won, drawn or lost based on the tone of voice, before they announced the away team’s score. A lost art! (And not nearly as difficult as Sky’s rotating cast of Alan Lambourn replacements made it sound before they said “sod it, just let Simon Thomas read out the results himself, and save us paying someone else”.)

Yeah, apparently he was unceremoniously dispensed with a couple of years ago, must have been a fair age but seemingly didn’t retire of his own accord.

Len Martin, was the first BBC results reader, that I remember, who used the win, loose, draw intonation. Sky and Alan Lambourn came well after I went back to nz so I have not heard his rendition.
