Risk of Rest for top players such as Haaland

Post by admin »

Is this article I've published today of use? It uses Haaland's minutes played data for 2025/26, identifying why he was benched v Wolves due to very high January minutes played over previous week.

https://www.fiso.co.uk/erling-haaland-m ... on-in-fpl/

From the article, summary findings:

Looking at the season’s rolling 7-day pattern and the resulting “management events”, a sensible risk scale is:

Under ~180 rolling minutes (7 days): low rotation risk
Around 200–240: rising substitution/managed-minutes risk
Around 250+: high probability of either a bench, an early hook, or reduced involvement in one match

To anticipate another Wolves-style situation, watch for the same ingredients:

Three matches within seven days, especially if two are 90s
One of those matches is Champions League (often higher intensity)
The next league opponent is “manageable” (a fixture City believe they can win without 90 minutes from Haaland)
City have another important match within the following 3–5 days

If there's other players you want the data run for, let me know.

Useful data but some managers are hard to read -

Why did Pep play Haaland at home to Exeter in the FA Cup when this hard run was coming up?
Why did Arteta play a near full strength first team in this week's European dead rubber when they have more upcoming games (Eg Carabooo Cup)?

Some individuals also need more rest than others. Slot has hinted at getting medical advice re who is in the 'red zone' causing him to rest players who haven't played as much as, say, Salah who is indestructable and can seemingly play 2*90 minutes every week without harm.

Neto's figures would be interesting, just about everyone else at Chelsea gets rested/ rotated and he keeps starting. He's looked jaded for weeks.

And some are so close to breaking that they don't survive the warm up 🤷‍♂️

Haaland hasn’t been a top player for months now

Pepe has been saying for weeks that Haaland needs rest and is playing too much football but then as stated wastes him against Exeter.

Some sides it’s just better to stay away from altogether
