The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 25/26

Post by Smurphy Paw »

Welcome to the Rounded Keeper 2025/26!

Image

The doors swing open. The tables are wiped. A faint scent of chalkboard marker and hubris lingers in the air. Yes, friends — The Rounded Keeper is back for another season of Fantasy Football, debate, despair, and the odd dubious pint.

But before we launch ourselves into wildcard strategies and captaincy roulette, let’s take a moment to savour the summer we’re still having.

IMG_5987.jpeg

Some valley girls and a few regulars made the pilgrimage to Switzerland, home to Malrom, past winner Lucky, and host of this year’s UEFA Women’s Euros. Rolling hills, gleaming lakes, dramatic late winners and a national fondness for precise timetables — truly the perfect setting for football and fantasy managers alike to rest, reflect, and make notes about budget enablers in the sunshine.

And as for Gretchen — our dearly missed barmaid and cornerstone of the Rounded Keeper — she’s been at the tournament all summer, living her best life following the football, repping the pub, and (allegedly) getting shown on the big screen with a massive foam finger and a flag painted on her cheek.
IMG_5985.jpeg
But worry not — after the Final, she’ll be back behind the bar, ready to welcome you home. The pint glasses are polished. The fire’s gently crackling. And if you listen closely, you can already hear someone complaining about rotation risks.

The Rounded Keeper League
The league is once again open to all pub regulars — and to any newcomers who’ve wandered in from the Swiss fan zones with a taste for ale and algorithm-driven selection.

Past League Winners
Danzku (20/21)
SG_8 (21/22)
Lucky (22/23)
Aldershot Rejects (23/24)
SG_8 (24/25)

With a second title under the belt, it’s SG_8 who once again takes over the taps as our new Landlord of The Rounded Keeper for 2025/26. A safe pair of hands and a sharp tactical mind — and not above buying a round now and then.

A Cup for the Cup
We also raise a glass once again to the Rounded Keeper Cup, returning in all its knockout glory. Sponsored by the good folk at FISO, and once again offering the now-iconic FISO Mug to the winner — an item of such prestige, it’s currently on display (temporarily) in a Swiss mountain chalet.

IMG_5990.jpeg

This year, Talkie Toaster will be handling sign-ups for both League and Cup. The Sign-up sheet to enter the TRK League and Cup is here. Anyone not signed up will eventually be removed from the league by the management.

So here’s to another season:
To the heartbreaks, the hauls, and the hunches.
To the spreadsheets, the subs, and the shared pints.
To Gretchen’s return, SG_8’s reign, and whatever Gameweek 3 has in store.

Now then… who’s getting the first round in?

Allez Rounded Keeper.

Well done SP!

Time for SG_8 to start with a -150 handicap after such an amazing season?

And I definitely won’t be mentioning Gretchen and her massive foam finger.

Sometimes we have to admit that it's the singer, not the song 🤷‍♂️

Having fired it early, with some success; I was "good" last season and kept in hand and ... 😢😤🤦🏻‍♂️😤

No, of course not. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be entertaining watching you burn transfers to get in and out of your bench boost as normal

Nope. Still mulling over basic shape of the team - seriously considering 4-3-3 or 4-4-2

It feels like an interesting challenge this season.

A good thing.
Does it not cause problems if you renew a league and then enter an updated version of the league or does it sort of cancel itself out?

I saw that and got a min or something into it.

We did something similar in TFF where we can have more than one team and someone was crazily high up (Top hundred or so) for weeks 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

There’s an actual wooden spoon competition in TFF (or used to be, at least). I’ve finished top (or is it bottom) 10 before!

I think I remember that, seem to remember the person had Wigan block defence trying for wooden spoon, and they had a cracking start

A good Bloc could well have been behind the amazing start, but they must have picked daft attackers, as that wouldn't have been enough?

Can't remember the block but they were actually winning TFF with a genuine Wooden Spoon effort.

Unfortunately they disappeared rather quickly as they probably didn't appreciate their Hero(ine) status here 🤷‍♂️

I saw that vid earlier and it was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be.

I didn't realise there was a limit to the number of transfers because I'm sure I'd done more on a WC but having a quick look that is covered with
At other times you are limited to 20 transfers in any single Gameweek. This rule does not apply when playing a Wildcard or a Free Hit Chip.
Well there you go - TIL :o

I'm sure I've broken 20 before hitting the WC button 🥳🥳🥳
