The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 2024/25
Welcome to the Rounded Keeper 2024/25!
As our regulars will know, the first order of business at the annual reopening of the Rounded Keeper is to announce who will be our Honorary Landlord for the coming season, with the title going to the winner of the previous season's Rounded Keeper League. I'm not sure if the results for last season ever got posted, but with a bit of deduction I think that the league was won by Aldershot Rejects and the cup was lifted by Fuzzy after beating SP 51 - 47 in a hotly contested final. So I am pleased to announce that Aldershot Rejects is the Honorary Landlord for 2024/25.
Our new Landlord has already been hard at work trying to modernize the pub with the purchase of a second-hand airfryer, and has launched an exciting new menu for us all.
We also have news of Gretchen. She spent her summer going back to her homeland and enjoying the spectacle of Euro 2024. She posted many of her holiday snaps online for everyone to see:
Unsurprisingly, the Germans were keen to hold on to our Gretchen, but with a little help she managed to escape and make her way back to us.
The Rounded Keeper League and Cup will once again be open to all regulars. With The Rounded Keeper pub games we’re aiming for more of a Cheers-type local vibe, ‘where everybody knows your name’; than League of Gentlemen’s ‘local pub for local people’. Any FPL Player is welcome to spend some time in The Rounded Keeper, buy a few drinks, get to know us all and be invited to join the League.
In the true amateur spirit of grassroots football, the honorary title ‘Landlord of the Rounded Keeper’ is the highest accolade we can bestow. Who will be next to have their name etched on to the Honours Board?
Past League winners
Danzku (20/21)
SG_8 (21/22)
Lucky (2022/23)
Aldershot Rejects (2023/24)
Sign up for the Rounded Keeper League and Cup here
So with the formalities out of the way we can now get onto the important business of getting the drinks in and talking about the upcoming season.

You read my mind, PB! I had the same thought when seeing her again. She's missed, on a personal and professional level.
Thanks for opening the doors, TT!

Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 2024/25
Looking forward to the season as playing for fun only this year, no work league.
Looking through the stats for the past few EPL seasons, there seems to be a marked drop off in 0-0 results in the past few seasons, so I wonder if this is due to the latest trend of playing out from defence? It's also noticable that clean sheets at home are on a consistent downward trend, so is it worth re-allocating budget for defenders to elsewhere?

Spurs agree £65m deal for Bournemouth's Solanke
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/arti ... k48z8e7nlo
He was already in my team before this news but this surely adds to his value as an FPL asset.

That's quite exciting news, Watkins and Solanke both scored 19 goals last season and there's likely to be way more opportunities from his Spurs assisting teammates than there was when he played for Bournemouth. Already penciled into my FPL team.

Barring injuries I would fancy him to outscore Son, especially if he gets penalties.

A new SAS. Gone are Sutton & Shearer, it's now Son & Solanke.

Having both could be a worthwhile option along with Porro.
I myself would have to get rid of Saka to bring in Son so barring injuries that aint gonna happen.

A thrilling 3-3 draw when a boring 1-0 win would have been much more preferable.jimmy ching wrote: ↑10 Aug 2024, 12:41 6 minutes gone in the Leeds Portsmouth match, wood work hit three times and now a penalty.

Spurs defending
Two headers from set pieces and one rubbish passing out from the back; and it's only half time

They don’t even get a chance at Das Kommunityschield this year, having failed to win a trophy (or even lose a cup final/finish second to the double winners).

Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 2024/25
Honestly can’t remember ever having less enthusiasm for a new season. Think it’s partly a bit of football overload from a Euros of somewhat mixed quality, then getting swept up in all the drama and variety of the Olympics… and the fact it just seems likely to be a “same old” season with financial restrictions depressing the transfer market (aside from Chelsea, who continue their shitshow sideshow but it’s kind of like a long since “jumped the shark” TV soap that nobody cares about any more). Got one placeholder TFF team in so far and no idea if I’ll get round to doing any more or even reviewing that one!

Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 2024/25
Mine's about the same as normal, no more, no less. Always struggle this final week to get my head around FF, though. Probably accounts for the regularly wrong decisions and consistently poor starts.
To say the least, I'm no fan of "Internationalcrap Football", though I do look a little more kindly upon summer tournaments than the interruptions to the 'regular' season. Don't usually watch until the group phase rubbish is done and dusted.
As for the Olympics, I'd rather sit and watch a test pattern...
