He wouldn’t have won the World Cup with NZ ;) (Well yeah, he was the difference between the two sides, but they’d have lost to someone else in the final in that case…)

Stokes is not a Kiwi. Stokes is an excommunicated traitor.

Hate to sound negative but I reckon England won't get half of the runs needed.

Weather is perfect for bowling.

A bit chilly, it's 50-50 but Root has to get the Slave Traders close.

Yeah, as discussed on the radio, think they’re going to compare hours and minutes to sort it out!

Remarkable effort by Root, with support from Stokes and Foakes but little from the other blokes. Held their nerve well and the bowlers were mostly excellent, but to be a consistently decent Test side we have to find a way to start scoring 400 first up.

Root is quality, but in truth he wasn't up against a particularly good unit. Jameson can bowl, but Southee and Boult are well past it and Patel was a non factor.

It seems like normal service has been resumed with the Sailor Boys topping 300 for 4. The wonder that is Boiks would have enjoyed the wickets falling in pairs.

I'm trying to remember the last left hand off-spin bowler (like Leach) in test cricket, my best guess would be an Indian in the 70s when they fielded 3 or 4 spinners at s time.

It’s a pretty common type of bowler, left-arm finger spin i.e. off-spin action but a leg-break to the right-handed batsman (for that confusing reason, usually called left arm orthodox/finger-spin, or simply slow left arm). Ashley Giles, Monty Panesar and Phil Tufnell are relatively recent England examples.

It’s left-arm wrist-spin (i.e. like a left-handed Warne) that’s like rocking horse shit. The former colloquial name for that is now considered racially offensive… South Africa’s Paul Adams in the 90s was one of the more recent at Test level.

Yeah, I guess those were left arm off break, like Phil Edmunds.

You mean the oriental variety?

Yeah… none ever actually hailing from that region, as far as I’m aware!

Perhaps… you still hear that one sometimes as it doesn’t actually contain a racial slur as such, but certainly a somewhat dodgy association (to a country with no cricketing tradition). A bit like the “Chinese snooker” (being hampered by a ball in front of the white) which has largely fallen out of use since players from China became prominent.

Bracewell follows one from Jimmy and edges it to someone who can catch 😱😱😱😱

These are the sort of Innings that cause to to hate Broad as he does diddly squat. He seams ho ho to get a lot of wickets or none......

But Boult who’s in now for NZ is ahead of him on that list (in less than half as many Tests!)

Boult would probably have batted at 8 in some of the past NZ teams… (remember Chris Martin? No, not that one…)
