That was the unexpected bonus of going with EAGER as an elimination guess. It was with GENRE in mind on one of the other boards as well. I just had an inkling, with so many RE along with N&As, that there’d be a sting in the tail. They’re such common and, collectively, unhelpful letters. I didn’t expect it to unlock double E in three words.

Sounds like you were doing a crossword with the clue: Orange (5)

Yeah, surprised that many got it in 3, expected to see some fails. Was my last resort 6th guess as I couldn’t find anything else, wasn’t even sure if I’d spelt it right or if it was an ineligible proper noun!

Bayou here too.

Looking at a couple of grids it appears some used weird starting words and got lucky! Maybe....

I was thinking not many 5-letter words have a Y in the middle, but you’ve just used an obvious one there…

I start with a Y in Quordle as they use it a lot - generally as last letter which is where I put it.

Can't be many words with Y in the middle so you got lucky, maybe (there's one!) that is why you used double A and(!) double K in go 2.

I got to -A-O- after 2 goes. Took a while to find a legal word for go 3 and was amazed when HAVOC yielded nothing new. Go 4 took me ages.....

Yeah, my first guess eliminated the letters S, T, L, and E, which ruled out nearly every five-letter word I could think of with Y in the middle. KAYAK seemed to be the only valid word remaining at that point. Took me ages after that to find BAYOU.

ADIEU
SNAFU
BAYOU

A green U meant even a 2 was possible. So just lucky to start with a green U with that good old English/French word adieu. May have to change that word as that was probably the one rare chance at a 2. My second guess is usually forty to seek the other vowel.

I had the A position from my starting LATER, then my second NOISY told me there was a Y somewhere. Briefly considered WAGYU but thought was a bit obscure, so went KAYAK and then remembered BAYOU. Never was big on Roy Orbison.

Trivia fact for the day - FORTY is the only number whose letters are in alphabetical order.

I think my vocabulary is pretty good but I’ve never heard of Bayou.

Is the song 'Blue Bayou'?

Is a bayou some sort of swampy river??? Definitely only heard it in American language but maybe has roots elsewhere.

Started with something ending in a Y (can’t remember what) then went Layer for guess 2. Took ages to spot a word that fitted (luckily didn’t see kayak!)

Yeah I knew Bayou as some sort of Southern US “swampy thing” as murf said.

I got to it via ROATE giving me two yellows for OA, an unsuccessful 2nd guess which only ruled out a couple of places for the O and A, and then tried BANJO which rather luckily gave me greens for BA and meant I now knew O was in 4th place. Based on the other letters ruled out, after a lot of head scratching, I spotted BAYOU as the only option.

I visited the Bayous or a little part of them back in 1984 , when I was on my Cajun trip in Louisiana.
I also started with ROATE, can‘t remember the rest though.

No, just checked, I started with my other word

It was a fail on Quordle today, and the 4 words seemed quite appropriate - I wasn’t SAVVY enough (that was the one I missed), but got SPLAT, DROSS, and… MORON!

S was common today. I usually try and put that in my 2nd go but today I didn't so was quite bare. Got lucky using it on go 3 with DROPS which lead straight to DROSS.
