TFF chit chat 13th, 14th and 15th August
Welcome back!
FRIDAY 13TH AUGUST
Brentford 20:00 Arsenal
A Friday night fixture kicks off the 2021/22 Premier League season and you'll never Adam and Eve it - it's a London derby! Newly promoted via the play-offs Brentford welcome Arsenal to the Brentford Community Stadium. From a TFF POV, Brentford consists of Toney and 10 other unimportant players. Arsenal have been quiet on the transfer front, think they've only brought in Ben White to bolster their back line.
SATURDAY 14TH AUGUST
Manchester United 12:30 Leeds United
The Saturday lunchtime fixture features Manchester United against Leeds United at Old Trafford. Man U have brought in Jadon Sancho and Varane is almost a Red Devil, Shaw and Maguire performed well at the Euros but Rashford is out with a back injury. Leeds United have acquired a defender by the name of Firpo and Jack Harrison is now a permanent player.
Burnley 15:00 Brighton & Hove Albion
At 3pm, the first game alphabetically is Burnley against Brighton at the Happy Place. Burnley have brought in Hennessey and defender Nathan Collins. Ch. Wood has been at the Olympics but played in a recent pre-season match. Brighton have lost Ben White but gained a back-up keeper. Big Dan Burn and Lamptey are out. Complete the following sentence in 10 words or less: "Danny Welbeck is..."
Chelsea 15:00 Crystal Palace
A London derby up next - Chelsea v Crystal Palace. Mr Tickle won silverware on Wednesday night when Chelsea won the Super Cup on penalties. Ziyech scored then went off injured. Lukaku is due to sign in the near future which will be their only summer signing of note. Crystal Palace are under new management - Roy out, Vieira in (sounds like a plot line from Coronation Street). Palace have signed Olise and Guehi plus Gallagher is in on loan from Chelsea but he is ineligible for today's game.
Everton 15:00 Southampton
Everton versus Southampton next at Goodison Park. Everton are under new management, Rafa is now the man in the hot seat. The Toffees have bought Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray in during the summer transfer window, Richarlison played in the Copa and the Olympics so may be rested, Calvert-Lewin has a toe injury but is expected to play. Southampton have been far too busy in the window for me to list everyone here, but Ings have gone to pastures new.
Leicester City 15:00 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Another 3pm kick-off is Leicester City against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Foxes won the Community Shield last weekend with Iheanacho scoring the only goal of the game. Bertrand and Daka are their main new recruits. Evans, Justin and Fofana are all injured. Wolves are under new management, Mr Large is the man in charge (probably good friends with Mr Tickle). Wolves have Jimenez back fit but have Neto, Podence, Jonny and Boly injured. New players include 'keeper Sa and midfielder Trincao.
Watford 15:00 Aston Villa
The final 3pm game is takes place at Vicarage Road and features newly promoted Watford taking on Aston Villa. Watford have lots of players but very few if interest from a TFF perspective, Sarr might be your best bet for points. Aston Villa have been busy in the transfer market - out went Grealish and in came Buendia, Bailey, Ings and Ashley Young. Watkins and Buendia are possibly injury doubts.
Norwich City 17:30 Liverpool
At 5:30pm we'll be wandering through the Morrisons car park to reach Carrow Road where Norwich welcome Liverpool. The Canaries came up to the Prem as Championship Champions but have lost Buendia to Villa over the summer. Pukki and Cantwell (injured?) are familiar names from when Norwich were last in the Premier League. Liverpool have brought in Konate but Robertson is out injured so is likely to be replaced by Tsimikas for the next few weeks.
SUNDAY 15TH AUGUST
Newcastle United 14:00 West Ham United
Two Sunday games, the first of which is Newcastle versus West Ham. The Magpies are hopeful to sign Joe Willock from Arsenal before the deadline for this weekend's game. Goalie Dubravka is out for this game. Over the summer West Ham have brought in Areola to offer competition to Fabianski, Ogbonna is injured and Lingard is no longer on loan with the Hammers.
Tottenham Hotspur 16:30 Manchester City
And finally, the weekend's big match features Tottenham against Manchester City. This could be an interesting match as Harry Kane reportedly wants to leave Spurs and Man City is a possible destination for the England man. Spurs have bought Romero (complete with knee injury) Bryan Gil and a bench keeper. Man City have signed Jack Grealish. De Bruyne, Foden and Aguero are all injured (though Sergio no longer plays at the Ethiad, he's left to open a Hokey-Cokey bar in Spain).
Other things of note:
It might be worth reading the TFF game Guidelines - https://fantasyfootball.telegraph.co.uk/help/guidelines - as there have been a couple of tweaks to the scoring:
Goalkeepers only:
Saves (1pt per 2 saves)*
*A 'Save' is defined as a goalkeeper preventing the ball from entering the goal with any part of his body when facing an intentional attempt from an opposition player.
Midfielders only:
Tackles (1pt per 2 tackles)****
****A 'tackle' is defined as where a player connects with the ball in a ground challenge where he successfully takes the ball away from the player in possession. The tackled player must clearly be in possession of the ball before the tackle is made. The final destination of the ball (to the tackler, to a teammate, to an opposition player, out of play) is not considered. A tackle will only be deemed unsuccessful if the player tackled retains possession of the ball.

Re: TFF chit chat 13th, 14th and 15th August
The other Brentford striker is moderately important, for now, as I am lumbered with him in my Eggcup team until it becomes clear he is unimportant (already sufficiently lacking in importance that I can't recall his name). In a non-TFF orientated way they are all important as this season's Blackpool Sweepstake is The Brentford One. Plug, plug, link: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=133792

Re: TFF chit chat 13th, 14th and 15th August
cheers Morgan - sounds like Lukaku confirmed, be tempted to shuffle in future to get him up front... strikers scenario has been the position that's given me biggest headache pre-season... i've ended up taking a punt on Bamford and spending the extra pennies on attacking midfielders...

Thanks morganb for another excellent write up and one of many to come no doubt. Good luck to all on the good ship tff.
I have been quite absent since before end of last season and, like Eddie, am only picking now...eek! Not sure I can resist not having Lukaku in to start with now he's been confirmed. And all this new points scoring gubbins is confusing/annoying/unneeded?
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the kids and time difference completely ruining my chances (getting my excuses in early!) but having a good time along the way.

I've played TFF from season 1 and was going to ditch this season. But that would be rude.
I will give it my all, all season, definitely.

Villa- Dean Smith: "We are not too sure about Ollie (Watkins) at the moment, if he’s pain-free today then he will train, if not then he won’t be involved.
"Leon (Bailey) has had to isolate but he will be available for the squad on Saturday. He’s a top player and we’re really pleased that he’s here.
"Emi Buendía has had a slight injury but he’s available. He’ll bring the creativity and a spark.”
meanwhile at Newcastle (YI)- Having to play Woodman in goal. Hoping to sign Willock by noon so he can be available.

Re: TFF chit chat 13th, 14th and 15th August
Well I've just finished picking my 5 teams and I'm not really happy with any of them.
In fact, the one I am least unhappy with is my Eggcup team - because I can blame someone else for 9 of the 11 picks.
(I will of course tinker later where allowed)
PS Don't forget to enter a team in the Highlander League (code: HKE2AQ6N) and all of your teams in the FISO League (I'm sure Jester, Theo and others will also welcome you in their leagues where entry is still open)

Just in case anyone is unaware, there is a Football Score Prediction Games part of the forum and the number of entrants to the various games is quite low at the moment. I think they are all just-for-fun and only require minimal thought (but possibly weekly effort):

I don't want any players playing tonight, so I'll be doing a few teams tomorrow morning - can I still enter FISO Leagues?

Definitely Mané.
Looked sharp in preseason and Liverpool have easier fixtures to start.

So do we definitely think Lukaku won't start (or more a wait and see)? I've got him in atm but all this two cheap strikers then swap one up is turning my head.
