Re: TFF2021-22
I think TFF will come to an end soon. Its now only run out of habit. The main guy in charge no longer has much say in the day to day running anymore, and Telegraph will look at the drop in numbers this season and wonder if it's worth continuing. It may continue for 2 more seasons, but I reckon they'll drop it after that in the same way they dropped TFC.

Yeah, I first played in 1994. And then started working on it in 1998. Very sad to see the state it's in now.

Re: TFF2021-22
I guess printed newspapers don’t have the power and reach they once did, they were the vehicle for fantasy games in the pre-online era but that’s gradually drifted away. Is it only the Telegraph and Sun of UK national papers that still run a game at all? At one point they nearly all did, to varying degrees of success.
The Sun (along with Sky) seems to be hanging on in there but FPL has steamrollered everything else. TFF used to be one of the obvious choices for office leagues etc. but guess FPL took all the casual market.
I’ve said before though, bring back the Wednesday pun-filled update and transfer password

Re: TFF2021-22
Just trying to imagine the FPL generation having to go into a shop and buy a physical newspaper for a transfer password.....
Then, as the interweb takes off (unlike a certain plane), putting "TFF Password" into Ask Jeeves (other search engines did exist once) and discovering the world of FISO....

I wonder what percentage of today's 16-21 year olds have ever physically put a stamp on an envelope?
To them SAE is probably some statistical acronym or the new midfielder at Watford.

1994 was my first year as well. I distinctly remember putting Dion Dublin in as he was a dirt cheap Man United striker owing to lack of starting chances but had then signed for Coventry. Sad to say it remains a high point in my decision making history.get_on_my_cocker wrote: ↑21 Aug 2021, 16:16 Yeah, I first played in 1994. And then started working on it in 1998. Re: TFF2021-22
Does anyone get over excited about trying to keep players who are still in the Cup? It has never been something I have had to worry too much about before but this season I am actually doing well enough for it to matter.
Is there much potential benefit until SF time?
I am thinking the players who get cup time are probably with teams I would not be likely to touch, and the bigger teams will rest players too often until the later rounds.

Re: TFF2021-22
All depends on their schedules. If a team has big midweek games either side of an FA Cup tie then there is often mass resting. Last round there was (or so it seemed to me) generally less rotation as there were less league games (even though there had been a busy xmas schedule just before). Thin squads came into it too as did rests due to covid cancellations.raoul wrote: ↑19 Jan 2022, 16:45 Does anyone get over excited about trying to keep players who are still in the Cup? Small clubs often rest players more often than you'd expect as if coming 12th was more important than a Cup run so your logic on that doesn't always follow but, yes, I'd be reluctant to get in a smaller club player if they got knocked out early.
Rearranged league games will probably be a bigger factor this year - could be quite a mess which means bonus game opportunities and smashed laptop screens when your new bloke promptly gets rested for the second bonus game.
This year Chelsea have an early cup game then 2 weeks off so you can pick a starter in the subsequent cup games to replace them if luck follows you.

if the winter break story I have just seen is true, I doubt my question retains any current importance...
I think those holding a lot of transfers are in for a treat.

My main team is in a mini league that has a side FA Cup knock out competition, so I always have a decent Cup contingent that grows the closer we get to the final to try and win that too and get the double . However this year, like last year I think, the FA Cup final is on Saturday 14th May before the end of the league season. There's s a whole weeks league games the following week the 22nd, and there will probably be some on the Sunday 15th too pending fixture announcements. So unfortunately the final is not the big grand points finale it once was, and if you stack up on just those teams they could be on the beach when points are needed for the last week of the season the following week.
I've always thought that side comp was a hindrance to overall league performance, and it may still prove to be at the very pointy end, but I'm into the top 100 now with a decent amount of transfers left, so am not going to turn my nose up at Cup games and hope by chipping away in each comp I can keep climbing the overall table.

As for top 20, well if I had hit confirm on that Ronaldo to Kane transfer last night it would be even better!
But I reckon a lot of managers have held back transfers given the fixture chaos and will milk the rearranged games well enough to come steaming past - including you.
Let's see!
