What's it all about?
According to some newspaper and telly reports one of the biggest cheers of the night by those watching in group settings was when there was a close up of a young German supporter crying whilst being comforted by her (presumably) dad.
People are very disappointing sometimes.

Re: What's it all about?
At times it was like watching a Schoolboy international, all the shrieking and screaming like 10 year olds.....
(and that was just Pickford and Sterling joking maybe but the players looked way too emotional during the last 10 minutes... and this was only a Last 16 game, just equivalent to getting out of the groups at an old school Euros)

Re: What's it all about?
Iβve concluded over the past few years, through politics, social media and other things going on, that somewhere between 25% and 50% of the population of the erstwhile United Kingdom are complete <insert expletive of your choice>. My view on the exact proportion varies from week to weekβ¦Spinynorman wrote: β30 Jun 2021, 13:23 According to some newspaper and telly reports one of the biggest cheers of the night by those watching in group settings was when there was a close up of a young German supporter crying whilst being comforted by her (presumably) dad.

Re: What's it all about?
I'm afraid in this country, it's inevitable. If you had a local derby and a young fan was pictured crying, some of the other teams' fans would take great delight in this. It's Germany. They've always been better than us at football (in the main). That's the reaction I expected, I'm afraid.Spinynorman wrote: β30 Jun 2021, 13:23 According to some newspaper and telly reports one of the biggest cheers of the night by those watching in group settings was when there was a close up of a young German supporter crying whilst being comforted by her (presumably) dad.

The German national anthem also got booed mercilessly - that can only wind the opposition up and irks me. It's counter productive. Now, I understand that my Grandad's generation would have had issued with the Germans, but that was 80 odd years ago. Indeed, terrorist attrocities since in this country have had nothing to do with Germany. Whisper it but I quite admire them, their mindset, technology, car making, etc and I have been three times (Hamburg very interesting ) In 2010, I wore my England shirt in a fan park in Frankfurt, saw England sneak through, then watched Germany beat Ghana. I wasn't made to feel uncomfortable in the slightest but then my attitude is to mingle and get pissed with the locals, buy em a drink and have the craic. I'm more "barmy army" in that respect and I like the England cricket fans more so or that reason - even though they are a bit jingoistic, they are a better reflection on the country.
The only thing I would say is that there were German fans mixed in with England fans. Years ago it probably would have kicked off big time, but now more of the verbals are on twitter - some distateful, I accept. Still some neanderthals around but say if we beat Germany again or actually get to the final, those feelings may generally subside. When I was kid it was too dangerous to go down the match, so at least we've made strides in some respects.

Not booing the opponent's anthem nor the taking of the knee is a start.... Apparently getting to Rome to watch the match is illegal dye to 5 days Quarantine, so I hope they get arrested and kept in jail for a while.....bluenosey wrote: β30 Jun 2021, 17:59Agree, but in that case you shoudn't want any country to win

All this beer chucking does my head in as well even if it is only lager. I certainly wouldn't be chuffed to be under it.

Wouldn't catch me doing that. Beer is too expensive to waste . Surely you must have been to gigs though where the same happens, unless it wasn't lagerSpinynorman wrote: β30 Jun 2021, 19:31 All this beer chucking does my head in as well even if it is only lager. Agreed but if England stopped taking the knee that would be viewed as being racist by some.forestfan wrote: β30 Jun 2021, 19:39Nobodyβs saying everyone has to take the knee, just respect it if they do.bluenosey wrote: β30 Jun 2021, 19:23A lot of countries don't take the knee though?blahblah wrote: β30 Jun 2021, 18:37Not booing the opponent's anthem nor the taking of the knee is a start.... Looks like Tyrone is in the spotlight for almost calling Unpretty Petal a hypocrite at bring outraged by Social Media Racism, while not condemning the Booing of taking the knee...

Quite right. Agree 100% with what Tyrone Mings said there.
Boris also a hypocrite for similar reasons, although I guess calling out Boris for being a hypocrite is a bit like calling out rain for being wet

Re: What's it all about?
Maybe Southgate and the England players should form a political party, theyβd instantly become the most viable opposition to Borisβs ENP.

Re: What's it all about?
Tyrone needs to understand that many don't support and don't like the BLM political far left agenda, such as defunding the police and the usual anti Israeli sentiment. This has little to do with the racist abuse the black players have received but people shouldn't be surprised. When Beckham kicked out slightly at Simeone, who went down like he'd been shot, Beckham was sent off and received death threats and had effigies hung from lampposts. People lash out and will pick on anything. Its nice to see the massive show of support for Rashford, shows that 99% are behind him

Re: What's it all about?
Theyβve made it clear theyβre not expressing support for an American political movement, or the far left, and itβs certainly got the square root of eff all to do with Israel!
If being anti-racism is βfar leftβ weβve got quite a problem in our politics.

It really does beggar belief that there are still people out there trotting out that drivel.
