FISO NFL ESPN Season 15
I know it's really early but...
Since the draft is nearly upon us, and NFL is back in the mind, it occurs to me that with the extra week of games, some tweaking of the league is necessary.
There are a few ways of playing it, here are a couple of options.
(Just setting them down here to jog my memory for later).
1. Extend the regular season by one game, so playing 15 rather than 14 in the season. So as to keep the three division, two games against division rivals and one against each of the other teams, concept - one idea is that in week 15, the team with the best record has their choice of opponent, then the second best can pick their rival, and so on - thus giving an advantage to the teams with the better records over the year. Then the playoffs would be the regular four teams, semifinals and final.
2. Regular 14 game season, but leading to 6 playoff teams over a three week period - #1 and #2 would have byes, #3 v. #6 and #4 v. #5.
I'm sure there other ways, any ideas welcome. Perhaps something along the lines of qualifiers/eliminators as used in the IPL cricket, and Aussie Rules finals, for example?

Re: FISO NFL ESPN Season 15
OK, let's get season 15 up and running!
You're all probably aware, but just in case - the NFL season is one week longer this year, so in order to keep our fantasy league season the same length, there will be three rounds of postseason rather than two. The first week will be #6 @ #3, and #5 @ #4 - the top two seeds will have a bye that week. Then semifinals and final as normal. One thing I'm not sure about is how the 6 seeds are determined, the website is not that clear. It may be that in a three division league it's simply the top two in each division, but I would much prefer it if it's the winners plus three wild cards, as the division groupings are totally down to luck. So be prepared for me to alter the playoff line-up in the event.
Of course the first order of business is to see who's playing this year - so I'll be sending out emails and PMs imminently to all of last year's managers.
I've reset the number of IR slots from 2 back to 1 - I hope that the reason it was set at 2 last year doesn't raise it's ugly head again, but as we approach kick-off week, I'm prepared to change it back to 2 if that's the way the wind is blowing.
No scoring changes from last season - all seemed to be working fine.
Keepers - 0,1 or 2 keepers can be selected, but under league rules you can only keep for 3 years, so Bookhouse Boys will lose Michael Thomas, Forest Tigers will have to reluctantly say goodbye to Christian McCaffery, likewise Chingford Gingers to Dalvin Cook (nice presents for teams drafting #1 and #2!), and with slightly less angst Luck Skywalker will say thanks and best wishes to Todd Gurley.
Traditionally (I think the league's been going long enough to say that), the draft will be on the Sunday evening of the August Bank Holiday, ie 29th August - but I'll put a poll up nearer the time.
I hope to see you all back for the new season!

Re: FISO NFL ESPN Season 15
Regarding the 3 year keeper rule: If you have put the player back into the pot and he is there when it comes to your pick, can you start the 3 year cycle again or will it be vetoed for at least one season?

Re: FISO NFL ESPN Season 15
Never come up before, so I will make a ruling that if a player is released at the end of a three year cycle, and the same team that released him is able to draft him, then they can - and a new three year cycle will begin.

I’d be interested in joining the waiting list. I’m a Bengals fan so should be very easy to beat.

Re: FISO NFL ESPN Season 15
OK guys, we may have a slight problem here. Two people still to reply, which wouldn't be a disaster as we have two people on a waiting list, but one of them is the chairman of the league. A few years back, he asked me to take over the admin side (secretary of the league if you will), but at the end of the day I'm just another league member with, as far as I can see, no powers to replace the chairman. In light of this, I'm just going to have to leave it until the last minute and hope that a) he's OK! and b) is back with us for another season.
As time is getting short, and in the past it seems to have been ok for most people, I've set the draft for 9pm BST on Sunday 29th August, our traditional date and time. Also a reminder to set keepers by 9pm BST on the 22nd August, bearing in mind the three year rule for some teams as mentioned in post #3 above.

Re: FISO NFL ESPN Season 15
My fault; Mark (chairman) had replied on the league message board on the ESPN site. So just waiting for Chingford Gingers to get back to me. I'll send out one last email/PM and if no reply before Wednesday night (18th Aug), I'll remove them from the league. So blahblah and Mo Bot (and yes, it is possible to co-run a team - coincidentally the Gingers themselves are a two-man operation), if you're still interested - you're next up!

And the Gingers are back as well! Thanks Daniel - sorry I've had to edit your keepers, you've had Dalvin Cook for the maximum three years. Blahblah and/or Mo Bot - sorry, maybe next year?

Re: FISO NFL ESPN Season 15
Still quite a few teams leaving it late to set keepers - eg as it stands at the moment Derrick Henry is going to free agency, can't believe that the current owner is happy to let him go. Keepers must be set (up to a maximum of two, and being aware of the three year time limit) by 9pm UK time Sunday 22nd (that's exactly one week before the draft).

Re: FISO NFL ESPN Season 15
The keeper window has slammed shut, and this is the result.
Bruschi 54s - WR Calvin Ridley (year 1) - just one keeper selected
Bookhouse Boys - WR Tyreek Hill (year 3), RB Jonathan Taylor (year 1)
Forest Tigers - QB Patrick Mahomes (year 2), RB David Montgomery (year 1)
Barry Crockers - RB Saquon Barclay (year 3), WR DeAndre Hopkins (year 1)
Crystal Tipps - WR Amari Cooper (year 2), QB Aaron Rodgers (year 1))
Fulchester Fish - RB Alvin Kamara (year 3), WR Davante Adams (year 3)
Get It Right Next Time - RB Derrick Henry (year 2), TE Travis Kelce (year 3)
Cornish Tinners - RB Austin Ekeler (year 1), WR Stefan Diggs (year 1)
Chingford Gingers - WR DK Metcalf (year 1), RB Nick Chubb (year 2)
Luck Skywalker - QB Lamar Jackson (year 2) - just one keeper selected
Yorkshire Dragons - no keepers selected
X-Men - QB Dak Prescott (year 1) - just one keeper selected
Fulchester Fish enjoying the benefits of both Kamara and Adams for the last time!
Draft is scheduled for 9pm UK time next Sunday (29th August) - the draft order is based on last years finishing positions as usual. For easy reference, here it is...
#1 - Barry Crockers (top of consolation ladder last year)
#2 - Bruschi 54s (2nd on ladder)
#3 - Get It Right Next Time (3rd etc.)
#4 - Crystal Tipps (4th)
#5 - Forest Tigers (5th)
#6 - X-Men (6th)
#7 - Cornish Tinners (7th)
#8 - Luck Skywalker (8th)
#9 - Yorkshire Dragons (loser 3rd/4th playoff)
#10 - Fulchester Fish (winner 3rd/4th playoff)
#11 - Chingford Gingers (loser final)
#12 - Bookhouse Boys (champs)
Teams have been allocated into one of three divisions.
As I'm sure you're aware, there is one more gameweek this season. We will still be following the usual schedule of the 1st 14 weeks as divisional play, but instead of the playoffs being over just 2 weeks involving 4 teams, this season the playoffs will be over 3 weeks and involve 6 teams. (Top two seeds will get a bye in the first of these weeks). One thing that is not clear on the site (and despite emails, no answer has come back) is how the 6 teams are decided. Presumably it's either the two top teams from each of the three divisions, or the top team from each division plus three wild cards. My inclination is definitely for the latter, and if it turns out that it's the former, I would be prepared to change the make-up of the playoff teams. But I'll put a poll up on the site, which will be open until the start of the season. In the event of a tie, it will be three champs plus three wildcards.
See you in the draft room!
