Good Morning All,

I am very patriotic, very passionate about my football, but i have found myself, frustrated and to be honest, disappointed, by the way i feel this current crop of English Players under Gareth Southgate is going or gone.

How many of you , like myself used to love watching or country play,, but I'm not so fussed now,

I remember not so long ago, people the country over ,, mainly newspaper hacks,, who said they feared for the lack of English talent getting chances at premier league level,, and worrying about the future of the English National Team.

Well i believe that has been proved wrong,, so many young players have broken through the ranks and are enjoying playing in the Premier League,

This is not down to Southgate, indeed he picks up the finished articles from , the coaches at these clubs,, and also through the under 21 set up.

You have in football Two distinct types of football managers,, those that setup to WIN games, and those that setup to NOT LOSE a game.

I have found Southgate the latter, nearly all his teams set up with at least 2 holding midfielders,, sometimes all three across the park are more defensive mined than being able to make that killer pass for our forwards,,

I believe we are blessed at this moment with young forwards not afraid to have a go at defenders,, if there is one thing defenders hate,, is a forward prepared to be direct , and run at them.

I cannot for the life of me believe that Dier,, he was awful and lazy as a centre midfielder ,, but still he preserves with this donkey.. is he better than so many English centre backs that have played in this position most of their careers.
Declan Rice,, [ International class? ,, NEVER] turn him and he will NEVER catch you,, he is slow , oh so slow to recover,, a lot like Xhaka at my beloved Arsenal.

Once again pickford in goal was less than convincing,, flapped and missed a cross from a corner, boy just cannot get a clean sheet, for club or country.

The result against Belgium might paper over the cracks,, but what a boring fest he serves up as manager,, it could be that he just might be guilty of wasting this current crop of young talent,, pick a team , that will have a go at teams, make them defend.

Southgate;;; you could well go down in history as the manager that wasted a generation of good talent. At least have a go at teams.

Or am i big in up this current crop ?

Please your thoughts on this matter , manager, players , talent now coming through the premier league.

PS, sorry was not sure where to put this post,

There’s plenty of talent, but unfortunately it’s not spread evenly across positions. We’re spoilt for choice with right-backs and wide players. Whereas world class keepers, centre-backs and possession midfielders are like rocking horse crap. So it’s hard to find the right team and system.

It’s very hard to judge on friendlies, qualifiers and a new tournament still finding its feet, major finals are where England teams are defined. We’ve already made one semi-final, so Euro 2020+1 will be the measure of progress.

Oh Gareth,, nice wok with your taking off our only left footed defender,, then u kept switching Walker and James ,, U have lost what ever you had,, comical and sad .
Im not saying Grealish is a world beater,,, but he is in the form of his life,, yet you send him away thinking what must i do to get into this team,, should have brought him on , with twenty to go,,

Southgate won the lottery with the way that World Cup draw opened up for him. In reality, he's a poor manager that got Boro relegated.

Yep, and still fooked it up by not throwing the Group.

He did throw the group, Losing to Belgium, that’s what got the easier draw.

In my opinion he has to go! We need an experienced manager, maybe Mauricio Pochettino could be the man!

I’m not sure a different manager would make any difference. The players aren’t good enough, especially in certain positions (central mid primarily) and not much can change that.

Wooden tactics, no threat or dynamism, strange selections. Typified by half time like for like sub Winks for Henderson when 2 down.

Southgate reveals the withdrawal of Henderson was enforced after he complained of muscle "tightness" last night. "Jordan had a bit of tightness at half-time and felt he couldn't carry on. We'll have to assess him when we get back."

I don't do Xmas nor do I make a point to watch England: but if that happened all my Xmases would cum at once and I'd have a load of popcorn ready for every match 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Still, Southgate’s club record was in the same ballpark as those two (at best) and he’s out-performed the more celebrated Revie, Greenwood, Robson, Venables, Eriksson, Capello et al…

He's had some good draws and has players that don't think that England "duty" is one big piss up...

Yeah, the argument is perhaps that he’s achieved par for the course, whereas the others on the whole underachieved bigly…

Getting that team mentality and commitment out of the players is as important as the tic-tacs.

Let's discuss your points:

English talent in the Premier League: You believe that the fears expressed by some about the lack of English talent in the Premier League have been proven wrong. Many young players have emerged and are thriving in the league. It's true that Southgate benefits from the development work done by club coaches and the under-21 setup.

Southgate's approach: You feel that Southgate tends to set up his teams to not lose rather than to win. You point out the frequent use of two holding midfielders, which can be seen as defensive-minded. You believe that this approach limits the ability to create scoring opportunities for the forwards.

Individual player criticisms: You express dissatisfaction with certain players' performances. You mention Eric Dier's selection as a center-back, considering other English center-backs more deserving. You also criticize Declan Rice's speed and ability to recover, comparing him to Xhaka of Arsenal. Additionally, you mention concerns about Jordan Pickford's goalkeeping.

Wasted talent: You raise the possibility that Southgate may be wasting the potential of the current crop of young talent by not encouraging a more attacking style of play and not making the most of their abilities.
