Fantasy 2020 World Snooker - Now running
Only 2 weeks to go until this starts, and there might actually be some people allowed into The Crucible to watch it !!!
However, even though nothing has happened for ages, the qualifying rounds still only finish a couple of days before the tournament proper starts, so once again, there will be a mad rush for me to try and get entries in. It does mean, however, that I can continue my streak of running a fantasy snooker which stretches all the way back to 2008. All those competitions I've run and I'm not sure I've ever finished in the top half of the table, never mind being close to winning.

Eurovision film is supposed to be rubbish. Tournament set in Scotland implying the Brits won in it the previous year About as likely as me winning at Fantasy Snooker.

Re: Coming soon - Fantasy 2020 World Snooker
I'm not certain it is relevant, but could well be.
I played yesterday for the first time since lockdown and the (usual) table was loads better ie faster and truer and we didn't know why etc.
I saw an aerosol of fabric cleaner behind the bar and added 2 and 2. If they are "cleaning the cloth" between sessions the tables could be very responsive.....

Re: Coming soon - Fantasy 2020 World Snooker
If I find time after the Qualifiers I'll do a Preview, which was almost appreciated last year
But I am not sure I will have too much to add to the following....
Bog all Snooker has been played for ages, so those coming through the Qualifiers will have at least 1 match under their belt, unlike the Top 16. So any names that you recognise from the Qualifiers eg Ryan Day (probably a good bet to win it) should do well if they Qualify. I have only skimmed it but Cahill (beat ROS last year) vs Baird vs Hamilton could be a Qualifier to watch.
Surprisingly few players seem to have their own table at home, well not as many as I assumed ie all the ones with a history ie cash. However: J Higgins, Maguire (won last Comp playing very well) and I think another Scot have their own place and table(s). This would put MaManus (if him) high up my list of "could go deep" and Maguire, who is so much better than his results. Higgins is an odd one as he could use this COVID thing as a spark, or he is drifting along having been "broken" in the recent Final losses?
I will try and hit a Forum to find out who has their own table and lives near enough to other Pro's ie I know Bingham has his in a Club, so should only have been on it this week; and Robertson lives near Perry (I believe). The WPBSA had Snooker places closed for a week aafter Bars for some reason. (As above I played last week and the normally sluggish table was fast, and probably due to some sort of fabric sparay that had been used on the table. I should be playing Weds and will confirm if the spray theory stands up.)
The Table speed changing etc suits one player. Yep ROS, who it should not be forgotten (arguably) played his best WC after taking a year off, so may not be bothered by the lay off. However, as a fellow fwit, I think that he has serious mental issues with the WC to the extent that it could be a (serious for him) phobia.
I want Jack to win it, but that would need him and or Trump to have tables at home and to have played "properly" during lockdown.....

Re: Coming soon - Fantasy 2020 World Snooker
Weβve actually had two tournaments recently, behind closed doors in MK - one of them (the Championship League) was about the first sporting event to resume after the lockdown and featured a large number of players, that was followed by the Tour Championship featuring the top eight. So not too many players will have been inactive for months (though Ding and maybe some of the other overseas players didnβt travel).

Yep Cahill (played pants, and I'm not sure that he has his own tabe to have palyed on for the last 4 months).
Cahill needs a slap after that, I watched him in non_Comp thing last year and I'm not ssure if I ws impressed tbh.
Joe O'Connor could be better class.....

Re: Coming soon - Fantasy 2020 World Snooker
Looks familiar re this year with ROS having a "pleasant" draw.
With a whack of luck Jack could cruise to the Semis too.
The Top and bottom Quarters look difficult and that is before the Qualifiers get tossed in....

Re: Coming soon - Fantasy 2020 World Snooker
At 58 he would surely be the oldest Crucible qualifier for a long time... though Fred Davis made the last eight aged 65, which will surely never be matched! I think his namesake Steve was the last player over 50 to win a match there.
Weβve got a number of title contenders in their 40s now, a bit of a turnaround from a couple of decades ago, apparently in 2001 John Parrott was the oldest player to qualify at 36
