TFF chit chat 30th June, 1st and 2nd July

Post by morganb »

Tuesday 30th June

Brighton & Hove Albion 20:15 Manchester United

The solitary Tuesday game is a late kick-off featuring Brighton against Manchester United. Brighton have been in good form since the restart and have gradually crept away from the relegation zone. Manchester United are also playing well and are unbeaten in quite a few, they even qualified for the FA Cup semi-final over the weekend with an extra time victory over Norwich. So Martial, Rashford, Pogba or Fernandes (or Shaw)?

Wednesday 1st July

Arsenal 18:00 Norwich City

Four games on Wednesday, the first of the three early games is Arsenal against Norwich at the Emirates. Arsenal are another team to have qualified in the FA Cup, while Norwich were knocked out after a spirited performance against Man U. Norwich are all but gone, back to whence they came, so will they now decide to blood a few youngsters in prep for next season. The Gunners are 9 points off the European spots, possibly a step or two too far.

AFC Bournemouth 18:00 Newcastle United

The second of the 6 o’clock games is Bournemouth versus Newcastle at the Vitality. The Cherries just keep on losing at the moment and are in serious risk of the drop, but to be honest Wilson hasn’t been the same without Fraser. Newcastle are comfortably sat in mid table and are now out of the Cup so only have a top 10 place to play for. Will the Bournemouth defence be totally mesmerised by Andy Carroll's mutton chops?

Everton 18:00 Leicester City

The final 6pm match is Everton taking on Leicester at Goodison. Everton are 12th and are another team who have little left to play for. Leicester on the other hand are still vying for a top 4 place and a victory today would be a step in the right direction. Vardy’s goal drought continues. After the match, will the Foxes be let back into lockdown Leicester?

West Ham United 20:15 Chelsea

A London derby concludes Wednesday’s games - relegation-threatened West Ham against Champions League-chasing Chelsea. The Blues were in FA Cup action at the weekend and safely got past Leicester with a Ross Barkley goal. West Ham are on a losing streak at the moment and are lucky there are three worse teams below them. Who will be up top for Chelsea - Olivier Giroud or Kevin 'Tammy' Abraham?

Thursday 2nd July

Sheffield United 18:00 Tottenham Hotspur

Thursday’s early game is Sheffield United v Spurs. Sheff Utd have been in very poor form since the restart and are at risk of dropping down to mid-table obscurity after such a promising start to the season. Spurs are doing ok but will need to string a few more wins together to reach a European spot and as always will be reliant on Harry blowing a few doors off.

Manchester City 20:15 Liverpool

The final match of this batch of games is Manchester City against Liverpool. City losing against Chelsea last week handed the title to Liverpool. Will either team still field a full-strength side, or will they hand opportunities to the bench warmers and youngsters? Liverpool still have a record points haul to aim for but City’s European future for 2020/21 is still unknown at present. No Aguero.

Wakey Wakey!

Arsenal 18:00 Norwich City
AFC Bournemouth 18:00 Newcastle United
Everton 18:00 Leicester City

West Ham United 20:15 Chelsea

Mikel Arteta makes four changes from the Arsenal side that started the FA Cup win at Sheffield United on Sunday. Twenty-year-old forward Reiss Nelson is among those returning - along with Hector Bellerin, Dani Ceballos and leading scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. There is still no place in the squad for either Matteo Guendouzi or Mesut Ozil.
Arsenal XI: Martinez, Mustafi, Luiz, Kolasinac, Bellerin, Ceballos, Xhaka, Tierney, Nelson, Lacazette, Aubameyang.
Substitutes: Papastathopoulos, Maitland, Niles, Holding, Cedric, Pepe, Willock, Nketiah, Macey, Saka.

Just the one change for Norwich after the 2-1 extra-time defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup last Saturday. German midfielder Tom Trybull comes in for Timm Klose, who is serving a ban after being sent off against United.
Norwich XI: Krul, Aarons, Godfrey, Tettey, Lewis, Trybull, Emi, Rupp, McLean, Cantwell, Pukki.
Substitutes: Vrancic, Hernandez, Stiepermann, Drmic, Duda, McGovern, Idah, Martin, Thomas.

Eddie Howe makes four changes to the Bournemouth side who lost 1-0 to Wolves on Wednesday.
They are without top scorer Callum Wilson, who serves a two-match suspension for accruing 10 yellow cards, so Dominic Solanke starts up front.
Arnaut Danjuma, Joshua King and Lloyd Kelly come into the starting line-up. Lewis Cook, Junior Stanislas and Jack Stacey drop to the bench.
Bournemouth XI: Ramsdale, S Cook, Ake, King, Lerma, Solanke, Danjuma, A Smith, Brooks, Kelly, Billing
Subs: Boruc, Gosling, L Cook, Stacey, Stanislas, Rico, Wilson, Mepham, Surridge

Steve Bruce makes six changes to the Newcastle side who lost 2-0 to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
In comes Martin Dubravka, replacing Karl Darlow in goal, while Joelinton replaces Andy Carroll up front.
Jonjo Shelvey, Dwight Gayle, Emil Krafth and Nabil Bentaleb also start.
Fabian Schar, Miguel Almiron, Danny Rose and Isaac Hayden all drop to the bench.
Newcastle XI: Dubravka, Lascelles, Shelvey, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin, Gayle, Krafth, Fernandez, Manquillo, Songstaff, Bentaleb
Subs: Darlow, Schar, Carroll, Ritchie, Hayden, Yedlin, Lozaro, Almiron, Rose

Everton make two changes from the side that beat Norwich 1-0 in their last game seven days ago. The most intriguing sees young attacking midfielder Anthony Gordon start just his second Premier League game, in place of Bernard.
The other change also comes in midfield with Gylfi Sigurdsson in for Tom Davies.
Teenage defender Jarrad Branthwaite is joined on the bench by 21-year-old midfielder Beni Baningime.
Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Holgate, Digne, Iwobi, Andre Gomes, Sigurdsson, Gordon, Calvert, Lewin, Richarlison.
Subs: Baines, Mina, Bernard, Stekelenburg, Davies, Kean, Virginia, Branthwaite, Baningime.

Just the one change for Leicester from the FA Cup loss to Chelsea at the weekend. Marc Albrighton starts with Ayoze Perez dropping to the bench.
James Maddison, who missed the cup tie, is on the bench.
Jamie Vardy again goes in pursuit of his 100th Premier League goal.
Leicester: Schmeichel, Justin, Evans, Soyuncu, Chilwell, Ndidi, Albrighton, Tielemans, Praet, Barnes, Vardy.
Subs: Morgan, Gray, Maddison, Ward, Iheanacho, Perez, Choudhury, Mendy, Fuchs.

Looks like the big 2 teams are taking this evening's game pretty seriously judging from the team news.

Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Garcia, Laporte, Mendy, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Rodri, Foden, Sterling, Jesus.
Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane.
