TFF chit chat 8th, 9th and 10th November

Post by morganb » 08 Nov 2019, 08:41

FRIDAY 8TH NOVEMBER

Norwich 20:00 Watford

The Friday night fixture sees a clash between the bottom two sides. Watford are rock bottom of the Premier League having won a grand total of zero games this season. Unbelievably Norwich’s last win came against Manchester City. Could go either way.

SATURDAY 9TH NOVEMBER

Chelsea 12:30 Crystal Palace

It's Saturday, it's 12:30, it's a London derby! Crystal Palace travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off. Chelsea had a hard fought draw in the Champions League in midweek. Palace are just inside the top 10 and every other gamefor them is an away derby at present.

Burnley 15:00 West Ham

Fortress Turf Moor is the venue for the first of the 3pm matches. West Ham are the visitors to Burnley. It's 14th v 13th with both teams on a run of poor results. Chris Wood could be back for Burnley and Bobby Snodgrass is in form for the Hammers.

Newcastle 15:00 Bournemouth

The Cherries travel to the Magpies next. Bournemouth are poor on the road and Newcastle is probably a tricky place to visit at the best of times. Newcastle are on a decent run of results at the moment though there is no stand out player.

Southampton15:00 Everton

This week’s sacked in the morning derby features Southampton up against Everton at St Mary's. The Saints put up a spirited fight against Man City last weekend but still lost. Everton scraped a draw against 10-man Spurs and a win today would relieve the pressure on Silva.

Tottenham 15:00 Sheff Utd

Tottenham Hotspur host Sheffield United in the final 3pm game. Harry will be hoping to get back to door blowing action this weekend and his strike partner Son is available for selection after his red card was rescinded. Sheff Utd have been a real surprise package so far this season.

Leicester 17:30 Arsenal

Saturday's late match features a high flying Leicester side welcoming Arsenal to the King Power. Leicester lie third, 6 points ahead of Arsenal. Both sides have on form strikers in the shape of Vardy and Aubameyang, but the Foxes have the tighter defence.

SUNDAY 10TH NOVEMBER

Man Utd 14:00 Brighton

Two 2pm matches this Sunday, the first has Brighton travelling to Ole Trafford to take on a rather inconsistent Manchester United side. The Seagulls are a couple of places above Utd but a win for the Red Devils will put them above their opponents.

Wolves 14:00 Aston Villa

The second 2pm game sees 16th place Aston Villa up against 12th place Wolverhampton Wanderers. Jack Grealish almost got called up for England this week. Wolves played in the Europa League on Thursday and Jimenez got a late winner.

Liverpool 16:30 Man City

And finally, the weekend's biggest match takes place at Anfield where table topping Liverpool are hosting their nearest rivals, Manchester City. Liverpool will be hoping for a win to stretch their lead and you would hope Pep would stop his squad rotation policy for this match.

Chart comparing 'fixture difficulty' between first and second quarter of season for each PL club:

If accurate, it's happy (hoppy?) news for fantasy picks from Southampton and the opposite for last season's league champions.

Ederson ruled out. Pep said "I don't know how long he's out for"

Errrgghhh, that is annoying. But can't see Liverpool not scoring so suppose just give it another week. Hopefully doesn't drag on.

Do we know anything beyond Pep's FF-unfriendly lack of helpfulness and it being a "muscular problem"??

I'm cashing in my Alisson to Ederson 11 for 3 (or something like that). Pray for Alisson in the international break.

I think you'll be praying for Liverpool clean sheets. The fantasy gods seem to be cocking a deaf one to that particular prayer this season...

Any sendible ideas for Dilva's replacement? Any chance it's Mahrez?

I might do Ederson to Schmeichel and give myself some funds to play with. Leicester will end up with the 3rd/4th best defence at the end of the season.

Big team clean sheets often kick in in the second half of the season I always think but City sans Laporte look wobbly. Decent fixtures for Liverpool too before the club world cup.

If you're after cash what about Henderson or a step too far?

Someone on here a few seasons back did some analysis and found you got more CSs in the middle third of the season. Presumably because teams took a while to sort themselves out initially and at the end some had their deckchairs out and others played with nerves/fear/risks. Think that was for all teams but probably can be applied in isolation to big teams although they may keep going to the end.

Your referendum choices-
A)Schmeichel
B)Allison
C)Henderson
D)Bravo
E)Gamble elsewhere
F)Sit on hands til Pep becomes more knowledgeable/forthcoming

With Liverpool having better defensive options than City it was nice having a City keeper so I may be on F for now.

Certainly City and Lpool had a run of CS's latish. Ill try and dig them out if I have time after FPL Xfers.

Already have Enda Stevens, otherwise he'd have been an option.

I think there's a definite issue with teams reaching cup finals and/or not having much to play for in the league, but if they're kept honest until the end of the season they're usually good for clean sheets. I remember United 1-0ing their way to the league in 1996.

And regardless of when and how they fall, I'll back Alisson to outscore Ederson by >10 points (>20 if I was putting a spread on it) in the rest of the season, all things being equal...I expect Bravo to play the Cup games which Ederson played last season when Bravo was injured.

Yep. Laporte is a huge miss for them... They need to spank Lpool to have a chance of the title, imho.

Anybody goong EdersonKrul/FosterAllison/Schmeichel/Henderson?

Norwich head coach Daniel Farke sticks with the same starting XI that lost 2-0 at Brighton last Saturday.
Midfielder Mario Vrancic, who is available for the first time since August after recovering from a calf injury, starts on the bench, as do Ibrahim Amadou and Todd Cantwell.
Norwich XI: Krul, Aarons, Godfrey, Tettey, Lewis, Trybull, McLean, Hernandez, Buendia, Stiepermann, Pukki
Subs: Fahrmann, Byram, Vrancic, Cantwell, Drmic, Amadou, Srbeny

Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores makes three changes to the side that narrowly lost to Chelsea on Saturday.
Jose Holebas, Will Hughes and Etienne Capoue all start with Adam Masina, Nathaniel Chalobah and Andre Gray dropping to bench where they are joined by fit again Troy Deeney.
Watford XI: Foster, Janmaat, Dawson, Cathcart, Kabasele, Holebas, Doucoure, Capoue, Hughes, Pereyra, Deulofeu
Subs: Gomes, Mariappa, Deeney, Masina, Chalobah, Gray, Kiko

I've held on to Pukki for too long really after his good start - but tonight he can make it up to me .... or he's gone for good!

So, Cantwell definitely is out of favour now then. That’s just dandy. Think I’ll work out which keeper I can swap for Ederson to allow a Cantwell to Salah upgrade with £0 in the bank.
