FISO H2H Leagues Hall of Fame

Post by Talkie Toaster » 13 May 2019, 20:40

The 2018/19 Season marked the 10th running of the FISO H2H Leagues so I thought it was time we had a Hall of Fame thread.

The H2H Leagues were begun by DixieDean in the 2009/10 Season, which I believe was the first time that fpl introduced private H2H mini-leagues, and were in a very different form to what we play now. The first attempt at setting up a league was a single H2H League with unlimited entries and playoffs in the final 3 weeks for the top 8 after GW35. This was quickly followed by the setting up of 4 Divisions (A, B, C & D) of up to 36 teams, again with the playoffs after GW35. The idea was that the results from these leagues would form the leagues for the following season.

Apart from a sign-up thread I can't find any record of what happened with the unlimited entry league. The other 4 leagues finished up with 36, 34, 34 & 28 Teams and the final standings were never published.

For the 2010/11 the way the leagues should run was reviewed and the FISOer that came up with the current format of 20 team leagues, playing each other twice with promotion and relegation based on the final standings was none other than .... blahblah . A Premier League and Divisions 1-3 were formed based on fpl rankings for the previous 2 seasons.

In 2011/12 Moist von Lipwig took over the running of the competition and the League expanded to include a Conference Division.

The expansion continued in 2012/13 bringing the competition up to its current format of Premier League, Championship, Leagues 1-3 & Conference.

In the 2017/18 season MoSe and Stemania stepped in to keep the Leagues going in their well established format.

Attempting to rank performances over many seasons and divisions under different formats is always going to be rather subjective and there are several different ways of going about it. I've opted for a points based system using the formula of Champion = 6 points, Runner up = 3 points and 3rd place = 1 point, multiplied by (Number of Divisions below this one + 1).

So, for example, the Runner up in the Championship will receive 3 x (4+1) = 15 points.

This places a premium on winning the division and also means that some of the older results when there were fewer divisions are worth less points. 2nd place in the PL is worth the same as winning L2. It may throw up one or two anomalies, but I don't think it's too unreasonable.

2009/2010 Season

As mentioned in the OP there isn't much data left for what happened in the first season of 2009/10.
If anyone has any records from back then I'd be happy to include it here.

During this season 4 teams were promoted from each Division and 3 relegated.
