Man Utd Pre-Mortem
Hello and welcome to the Man Utd Pre-Mortem.
This is the first time I've tried a pre-mortem, so please don't squeal too loudly.
Ok, it's thursday the 16th march at about 10 p.m.
Probably the biggest european dream team game-changer has just happened.
There will be many like it, but I want to discuss this one. (darn this sounds like full metal jacket)
Man Utd have just been eliminated from the europa league by FC Rostov.
1. If you are flying high with a Man Utd block / Ibra etc, the moment you dreaded has arrived.
2. If you are still in with an outside chance, but do not have a Man Utd block etc, the moment you prayed for has arrived.
You don't want to find yourself in situations like this :-
Eff you Mourinho, you rotated the defence, I used up two transfers and my block still went out.
FML, I should have prepared for this possibility.
etc, etc, etc

I don't have a United block so count me out, or is that in ??
It's not a major problem. Have you not heard of "natural wastage" ?

It's probably better that you don't have any Man Utd blocks.Ant1 wrote:I don't have a United block so count me out, or is that in ??

Suppose you had 5 Man Utd blocks.
How many would you allocate to the possibilty that Man Utd do not qualify and keep no clean sheets ?

I 'm praying that the United blocks go tits up against the Russian Rostov's. Sounds like a Russian spacecraft. Rostov 1 orbiting the Earth. I honestly don't feel qualified to advise anyone, if Jose & his crew, do disappear into the stratosphere ?
Are we both very bored this afternoon ??
Will you amend the title thread to post-mortem come the evening of 16th ?

Re: Man Utd Pre-Mortem
Remember, I am just using Man Utd as a test case for this pre-mortem idea.
It will be no good coming up with ideas after the event (if it happens - which is unlikely).
The groupthink (go on look it up) will take over after the result.
What were the odds of Spurs going out to Gent?
Did you go all-in with a Spurs defence ?

I'm firmly in position 2 and counting on a Man U exit.
As you point out the Man U based teams will inevitably have made subs to ensure 11 playing during both games and will be left with depleted teams in phase 3

Do any unused phase 1 transfers have to be used by now ? Or can you use any for the start of phase 2 ? Was there a cut off time / date to use any outstanding phase 1 transfers ?

You had to use any remaining Phase 1 transfers last Sunday mate, otherwise you would lose them.Ant1 wrote:Do any unused phase 1 transfers have to be used by now ? Or can you use any for the start of phase 2 ? Was there a cut off time / date to use any outstanding phase 1 transfers ?
You should have a further 5 transfers now for the 2nd phase.

So the teams on the leader board won't show any changes until the first kick off.
I can't imagine the United blocks will make any changes at this stage ?

Why would you want Man U to go out ??? When your joint best team has 8 Man U players.RickyRosa wrote:I'm firmly in position 2 and counting on a Man U exit.

Perhaps because his other nine teams would then be competing in a much weaker game?Ant1 wrote:Why would you want Man U to go out ??? When your joint best team has 8 Man U players.RickyRosa wrote:I'm firmly in position 2 and counting on a Man U exit.

Re: Man Utd Pre-Mortem
Yeah I don't see your thinking here Ricky, you are saying the smart move is to go away from united but how exactly are you doing that....Ant1 wrote:Why would you want Man U to go out ??? As you point out the Man U based teams will inevitably have made subs to ensure 11 playing during both games and will be left with depleted teams in phase 3
you have from what I can see you have the following make up of your best teams
132pts 8 Roma 3 united
130pts 8 united
130pts 6 Lyon 4 united
122pts 7 united (kane still in team)
113pts 6 schalke 2 united
now you want united to lose so effectively your 2 united blocks would be dead in the water if that happens because firstly you would expect a poor return in points because of that and also you would need phase 2 transfers and some of phase 3 to replace the united players.
this would leave you with the other 3 of which 2 are playing each other and both have a healthy united contingent so that would be another dead team.
so going into phase 3 you would have either a roma or lyon block and possibly a schalke block if they go through out of your current 5 best teams and united lose like you hope.
obviously you are talking of moving away from united so may well change 1 of your united blocks to someone else this phase but surely you keep one of them!
transfers are going to be crucial in this competition and suspect to a large majority transfers will be like gold dust at some point and you are talking about using them on teams that you have heavy usage of united in to try and gain a potential edge if united fail to get through.
you have 24 united players across 5 teams!!! what about suspensions, injuries or rotation, or one of the others players you have scattered across your teams gets knocked out. I just don't see you justification or perhaps being a poker player it just a big fat bluff!!!

Possible truth in that, but still not logical. If Ricky was presently top of the table would he still say the same thing ? Of course he wouldn't.CBN wrote:Perhaps because his other nine teams would then be competing in a much weaker game?Ant1 wrote:Why would you want Man U to go out ??? Re: Man Utd Pre-Mortem
Really?
I think Jose like the Jones/Rojo combo in the middle. Bailly hasn't been great since he's come back in, Smalling has had Jose on his case earlier this season and has also been poor at times.
Not sure if Shaw's inclusion is the conclusion of a Jose mini project to bash him down and build him back up, if so, I'm gonna throw this out there.............
VALENCIA-JONES-ROJO-SHAW
The United first choice back 4

I honestly think Shaw has been selected today has a pawn in Jose's game with the media. It's his way of saying i run this club, not you.
Talk for weeks, this week that Jose doesn't rate Shaw & has no future at the club. Mind games from Jose all way round. Hope that's beneficial for Shaw, in the long term ?
