FISO NFL SEASON 10 - match reports

Post by Rick Spangle »

WEEK 1 RESULTS

Forest Tigers 110 @ 93 Portsmouth Pirates
Last years champs Forest Tigers got off to a winning start this time around with a win over last years wooden-spooners Pirates - but it was quite close. 27 points from WR Brandin Cooks, and a combined 35 from the Vikings special teams (kicker 15, DST 20) were the main reasons for the victory, though the Pirates had three good scorers of their own - Bengals WR AJ Green (24) and the Cards duo of QB Carson Palmer and RB David Johnson (both 18). A first look at the rosters, and I feel that the Tigers are very light at RB - the 4 on their roster combined for a less than magnificent 9 points. The Pirates seem to have a great squad this time around, as evidenced by the 90 (gulp!) points left on the bench. Whereas Theo Riddick is still part of a RBBC, I would imagine that CJ Anderson and Jordan Matthew will find their way into the team, now that their roles seem clearer.

Caracas Firecrackers 69 @ 73 Bruschi 54s
54s just nick a low scoring game. Only star for the Firecrackers was RB DeMarco Murray with 17, a total matched by RB Melvin Gordon for the 54s. Not too much from anyone else on either side. Firecrackers this year may rise and fall as Seattle go, as they have 4 Seahawks on their team - (a bit of home team bias there!) - but there are still lots of good players on this squad, as shown by the fact that the bench outscored the first team  Willie Snead looks like a good 'un, especially against the Giants next week. To me, the 54s look a little weak this year, a lot of inexperienced players, not helped by the fact that after only week 1 no fewer than 5 of the squad have a questionable status for next week.

X-Men 108 @ 99 Crystal Tipps
Another quite close game with the X-Men just edging it. QB Matthew Stafford starred with 25, backed up by 15 each from WRs Mike Evans and Doug Baldwin - plus a more than useful 17 from top kicker Dan Bailey. Stafford wasn't the best scoring QB in this game though - Andrew Luck for the Tipps totalled a weekly best score of 35, but there wasn't enough action from the rest of the team to back him up - only another good kicking performance from Steve Gostkowski (probably equal top kicker!) of 14 points. The X-Men squad looks better than it might have done, now it seems established that Jeremy Langford is the clear no.1 RB in Chicago, TJ Yeldon might get much more work depending on Chris Ivory's at-the-moment questionable medical status, and Mohamed Sanu seems to be the clear no. 2 WR for the Falcons. I like the look of this team, especially with Tom Brady available from week 5. The Tipps looked a little light at WR with no real WR2 on their team to back up star man Keenan Allen - so it's a huge blow that Allen is the first superstar to go down this year to a season-ending injury.

Get It Right Next Time 101 @ 108 Cornish Tinners
In a week of close games - here's another one! 30 points from QB Drew Brees, and contributions from pretty much everyone else bar RB Todd Gurley, who is going to be in for a long season if last nights Rams/49ers game is anything to go by. A less balanced, but ultimately succesful, team for the Tinners with the Steelers duo of WR Antonio Brown (24) and RB DeAngelo Williams, filling in for LeVeon Bell, with his customarily magnificent 28 points. (Does Bell get his job back? - Williams should be starting for some team in the NFL, not backing up.). Both these rosters look heavyweight - both scored over 100 points, and both had around 80 points stashed away on their benches.

Putney Gooners 60 @ 78 Chingford Gingers
Only an 18 point win here, not exactly a blowout, but it turned out to be the biggest margin of victory this week. Gooners off to a really poor start, with two players failing to score (Dez Bryant, inexplicably, and Jay Ajayi, less inexplicably - he didn't play :) ), and only QB Ben Roethlisbergers 22 points saving them from a real meltdown. Compared with other teams this week, not great scoring from the Gingers either though RB Carlos Hyde came up trumps in the late Monday game with 20 points. The Gooners squad looks OK to me, and there's still LeVeon Bell to come back for week 5, so I think they'll be fine - just a poor week this time around. Hyde, based on week 1, seems to be in for a lot of work this year, perhaps more than expected, so that's a bonus for the Gingers - as is the use of Tevin Coleman who may end up getting much more of Devonta Freeman's workload than some suspected - no great superstars to me on this roster barring perhaps Jordy Nelson, but it looks a reasonably balanced team.

Fulchester Fish 66 @ 73 Barry Crockers
Another close one, with the Crockers taking it. Except for 22 points from QB Aaron Rodgers, not a lot to write home about for the Fish - but the Crockers weren't pulling up any trees either, with only QB Cam Newton (20) and RB Matt Forte (14) into double figures. I think the Fish will be solid but unspectacular this year - the Crockers look like a good starting nine, especially when Gronkowski returns, and there will be a lot of extra work for backup WR Travis Benjamin in the wake of Keenan Allen's injury.

WEEK 2 RESULTS

Bruschi 54s 112 @ 93 Forest Tigers
The 54s hand the Tigers their first loss for quite a while, going back to week 6 of last year. A clutch of good scorers for the Bruschis, led by the Cardinals DST with 21, and QB Kirk Cousins somehow managing his way to 18 points. WR Kelvin Benjamin (22) top-scored for the Tigers, with 18 coming from QB Blake Bortles, and another good defence/special teams performance from the Vikings (13).

Portsmouth Pirates 97 @ 72 Caracas Firecrackers
Quite comfortable win for the Pirates to get off the mark for the year, behind QB Carson Palmer's 24 and a trio of good RB scorers (Ryan Matthews 15, CJ Anderson 14 and David Johnson 13). As mentioned last week, if the Seahawks ain't playing well, neither are the Firecrackers, and after the dismal showing from Seattle against LA, no great surprise that Caracas couldn't mount much of a challenge this week. RB DeMarco Murray led with 13 points.

Cornish Tinners 70 @ 76 X-Men
A narrow win in a low-scoring contest for the X-Men. RB DeAngelo Williams starring once again with 18 points for the Tinners, but there wasn't a lot else. X-Men just did enough with good scoring from TE Greg Olsen (18) and QB Matthew Stafford (15), but there are a couple of big injury concerns for them next time around with Jonathan Stewart and Doug Baldwin both looking shaky.

Crystal Tipps 76 @ 103 Get It Right Next Time
Not a great showing for the Tipps, who had to rely on points from slightly unexpected quarters (RB Gio Bernard 15 and Gronk-replacement TE Martellus Bennett 17) as their superstars for one reason or another failed to turn up (RB Arian Foster's injury the most annoying). GIRNT over the 100 mark with a nicely balanced roster, good points coming from every position bar TE, but a couple of injury concerns to their two top WRs Eric Decker and Donte Moncrieff.

Barry Crockers 111 @ 78 Putney Gooners
Biggest win of the week for the Crockers, with QB Cam Newton (29) and RB Matt Forte (28) doing the bulk of the scoring, along with a great match for K Graham Gano who scored 18. It's only week 2, but two more injury concerns for the Crockers here with RBs Doug Martin and Rashad Jennings both with a questionable tag. For the Gooners, RB Adrian Peterson also looks a doubt for the near future - without him, QB Ben Roethlisberger (19) and the special teams duo of K Justin Tucker (15) and the Texnas D (14) did their best, but it wasn't really close.

Chingford Gingers 78 @ 88 Fulchester Fish
A Fish win, but nothing too spectacular here. QB Philip Rivers scored 23 and RB Latavius Murray 15 for the Gingers - the Fish just taking it with no stand out performers, with QB Aaron Rodgers leading the way with 16. About all I can say on this one!

WEEK 3 SCHEDULE

Forest Tigers (1-1) @ Caracas Firecrackers (0-2)
Bruschi 54s (2-0) @ Portsmouth Pirates (1-1)
X-Men (2-0) @ Get It Right Next Time (1-1)
Cornish Tinners (1-1) @ Crystal Tipps (0-2)
Putney Gooners (0-2) @ Fulchester Fish (1-1)
Barry Crockers (2-0) @ Chingford Gingers (1-1)

WEEK 3 RESULTS

Forest Tigers 76 @ 105 Caracas Firecrackers
The Firecrackers break their duck for the year with a comfortable win over the Tigers. WR TY Hilton scored 23 and RB DeMarco Murray 21 for the Firecrackers, and WR Jarvis Landry added 19. All this from just 8 starters as WR Willie Snead wasn't able to join in the pointsfest on MNF for the Saints v. the Falcons. Tigers have to be disappointed with their 2 WRs - Brandin Cooks also failing to do much on Monday night, and Kelvin Benjamin not even collecting a single catch. The saving grace looks like a smart selection of the Vikings D who added another 24 points to the total of what at the moment is the best DST in fantasy football by some distance.

Bruschi 54s 80 @ 78 Portsmouth Pirates
The 54s take an early two game lead in their division and remain the only unbeaten team thanks to this very narrow win. It looked like being a little easier as they had a 1-point lead going into MNF with star WR Julio Jones left to play, but Jones was another player who failed to join in the general mayhem of the Saints/Falcons game as he only caught one pass. QB Kirk Cousins scored 19 for the 54s, while the Pirates got good results from RBs David Johnson and Christine Michael (both 22) but just came up short.

X-Men 108 @ 120 Get It Right Next Time
Good scoring from both teams, but GIRNT just come out on top. Three players over the 20-point mark for GIRNT; QB Drew Brees (25), RB LeGarrett Blount (22) and RB Todd Gurley (20). These three big scorers were matched by the x-Men's QB Matthew Stafford (26), WR Doug Baldwin (22) and WR Mike Evans (19), but while RB Ezekiel Elliott (16) also had a good day for GIRNT, no such support from the other X-Men.

Cornish Tinners 131 @ 74 Crystal Tipps
Huge score, biggest of the year so far, and a crushing win for the Tinners over the currently winless Tipps. Two massive scores from Tinners members - WR Marvin Jones with 32, and the Kansas D benefitting from a, shall we say, below par performance from Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, picking up 6 INTs and 2 TDs on their way to 32 points as well. What with QB Matt Ryan's 19 and RB Mark Ingram's 18, this meant a cracking week for the Tinners. In stark contrast, apart from 23 from RB LeSean McCoy, nothing else much to note for the Tipps in week 3.

Putney Gooners 58 @ 117 Fulchester Fish
A massive win for the Fish who more than doubled their opponents total this week. Good scoring from lots of positions, QB Aaron Rodgers 26 and TE Zach Miller's rather surprising 19 leading the way, backed up by a trio of 14-pointers, RB Frank Gore, WR DeMaryius Thomas and the Ravens DST. When your kicker is your top scorer (and by some distance) you know it's been a bad week - Justin Tucker kicked his way to an excellent 17 points, but WR Dez Bryant (10) was the only other man to get into double figures for the Gooners who are also looking for their first win this time around.

Barry Crockers 80 @ 117 Chingford Gingers
Easy win for the Gingers who got some fine results out of RB Tevin Coleman (26), RB Carlos Hyde (24) and WR Jordy Nelson (22). The Crockers got 17 points from both RB Charles Sims and WR Allan Robinson, but not too much from anywhere else - TE Rob Gronkowski, understandably selected by the Crockers owner over Kyle Rudolph, teasing everyone with his return to the Patriots, then failing to pick up a single reception. Better next week, you would imagine!

WEEK 4 SCHEDULE

Forest Tigers (1-2) @ Chingford Gingers (2-1)
Cornish Tinners (2-1) @ Bruschi 54s (3-0)
Portsmouth Pirates (1-2) @ Barry Crockers (2-1)
Caracas Firecrackers (1-2) @ Get It Right Next Time (2-1)
Fulchester Fish (2-1) @ X-Men (2-1)
Putney Gooners (0-3) @ Crystal Tipps (0-3)

WEEK 4 RESULTS

Forest Tigers 76 @ 74 Chingford Gingers
A tight, quite low-scoring, contest with the Tigers just edging it. No major scorers on either side bar the quarterbacks - 25 from Blake Bortles for the Tigers and 18 from the Gingers' Philip Rivers.

Cornish Tinners 111 @ 97 Bruschi 54s
The last unbeaten record falls as the Tinners take the win here over the previously unbeaten 54s. The reasonably hight scores were down in part to the Falcons' mad outing against the Panthers - but with the QB Matt Ryan going for the Tinners, and WR Julio Jones for the 54s, the scores of these two rather evened out - 35 for Ryan and 36 for Jones. Good scoring also from WR Antonio Brown (18) and K MIke Nugent (19) for the Tinners, and 17 each for the 54's QB Kirk Cousins and RB Melvin Gordon.

Portsmouth Pirates 107 @ 44 Barry Crockers
A very one-sided game here, with a nicely balanced score from the Pirates far too good for the Crockers who had a miserable week. WR AJ Green scored 23 for the Pirates, backed up with lots of other double-digit scorers. Other than QB Cam Newton's 15 and WR Allan Robinson's 11, no other Crockers showed up this week - and last year's MVP might not be able to go for the Panthers next week due to injury.

Caracas Firecrackers 100 @ 84 Get It Right Next Time
Firecrackers even up their record to 2-2 with this win over GIRNT, who also fall to .500. Two big scorers on either side of the matchup - QB Russell Wilson (24) and RB DeMarco Murray (23) for the Firecrackers, WR Michael Crabtree with a career-day 26, and RB Ezekiel Elliott (20) for GIRNT. Better backup from the Firecrackers squad meant that they came out on top.

Fulchester Fish 99 @ 68 X-Men
Fish lead the division with a 3-1 record after this comfortable win over the X-Men. Running backs led the way for the Fish with Isaiah Crowell scoring 20 and Matt Jones 19. A couple of 15-pointers from RB Jerrick McKinnon and TE Greg Olsen for th X-Men, but it wasn't one of their better weeks.

Putney Gooners 110 @ 90 Crystal Tipps
In the battle of winless teams, it was the Gooners who broke their duck - the wait for the first win for the Tipps goes on. A fine performance from QB Ben Roethlisberger (34) in the Steelers demolition of the Chiefs - with TE Jordan Reed adding 19, and the recently returned RB LeVeon Bell's 17, it added up to a good week for the Gooners. 90 points was a respectable team total for the Tipps, with plenty of reasonable scoring from the likes of QB Andrew Luck and WR Steve Smith (both 17), but not enough to win this particular head-to-head.

WEEK 5 SCHEDULE

X-Men (2-2) @ Forest Tigers (2-2)
Chingford Gingers (2-2) @ Bruschi 54s (3-1)
Cornish Tinners (3-1) @ Fulchester Fish (3-1)
Crystal Tipps (0-4) @ Portsmouth Pirates (2-2)
Caracas Firecrackers (2-2) @ Barry Crockers (2-2)
Get It Right Next Time (2-2) @ Putney Gooners (1-3)

WEEK 5 RESULTS

X-Men 108 @ 85 Forest Tigers
The return of Tom Brady! 29 points from the Pats QB helping X-Men to the win, backed up with 20 from RB Cameron Artis-Payne and 18 from TE Greg Olsen. 21 each from QB Andy Dalton and WR Amari Cooper for the Tigers.

Chingford Gingers 79 @ 70 Bruschi 54s
26 from QB Phil Rivers and 16 from RB Carlos Hyde just enough for the Gingers to take the win, balancing out a disappointing show from the other 7 members of the Gingers team. Not too much from any Bruschi, barring 17 from the Cardinals DST.

Cornish Tinners 73 @ 69 Fulchester Fish
Tight win for the Tinners, and achieved with only 8 players - no need to find a replacement DST to cover the Chiefs bye-week. WR Larry Fitzgerald (20 ) andRB Devonta Freeman (17) top-scored for the Tinners - a very disappointing week for the Fish with only QB Aaron Rodgers getting anywhere near a decent score with 15.

Crystal Tipps 90 @ 97 Portsmouth Pirates
Tipps still to get off the mark this year following this close loss. RB David Johnson had a great day for the Pirates with 29 points, with 17 from WR Brandon Marshall and 16 from QB Carson Wentz. QB Andrew Luck's 21 and WR Tyrell Williams 17 not quite enough for the Tipps.

Caracas Firecrackers 106 @ 65 Barry Crockers
Big win for the Firecrackers with WR TY Hilton's 23 points, a total matched by a great showing from Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri. Not a good week for the Crockers, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick heading the list of scorers with 14 points.

Get It Right Next Time 122 @ 80 Putney Gooners
By some way the highest score of the week for GIRNT in this thumping win. 28 from rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott and 21 each from RB Jordan Howard and QB David Carr. QB Ben Roethlisberger did his best for the Gooners with a fine 29 but there wasn't too much else.

WEEK 6 SCHEDULE
Forest Tigers (2-3) @ Get It Right Next Time (3-2)
Crystal Tipps (0-5) @ Chingford Gingers (3-2)
Portsmouth Pirates (3-2) @ Cornish Tinners (4-1)
Barry Crockers (2-3) @ X-Men (3-2)
Bruschi 54s (3-2) @ Putney Gooners (1-4)

...and we're back from our hols!

WEEK 8 RESULTS

Fulchester Fish 117 @ 105 Forest Tigers
Evidently my Fish decided to go on holiday and return to work the same time as I did, because after 2 poor weeks they got back on track with a high-scoring win over the Forest Tigers who would have beaten most other teams this week with a three-figure score of their own. Two big QB performances, Aaron Rodgers (33) for the Fish, Blake Bortles (29) for the Tigers. Kicker Will Lutz added 16, and WR Allan Hurns 15, for the Fish - another big score from a Tiger, WR Amari Cooper (23) but a deficit of a few points on all the other positions leading to a tough loss for Forest Tigers, who are in a bit of a tailspin at the moment, losing four on the bounce.

Chingford Gingers 87 @ 80 Cornish Tinners
A close game just edged by the Gingers to leave both teams at 4-4. No massive scores for them, QB Marcus Mariota leading the way with 19 backed up with a pair of 15's from WRs Quincy Enunwa and Jordy Nelson. Top player of the matchup was the Tinners QB Matt Ryan with 23 with help from RB Devonta Freeman, but the finger of shame has to be pointed at fellow RB Mark Ingram who turned in a -2 performance and may have fumbled his way out of the starting job at New Orleans.

Putney Gooners 71 @ 87 Portsmouth Pirates
Pirates the form team at present, with their fifth win in a row. 22 from QB Carson Palmer and 18 from RB Theo Riddick the top men for the Pirates, with only bits and pieces from others, but it was enough to take a reasonably comfortable win against the Gooners. QB Andy Dalton scored 19 and returning star WR Dez Bryant 17, but it's obvious where the problem was for the Gooners this week, with the RB tandem of Chris Ivory and James White getting just 2 points between them. Next week should be better with LeVeon Bell and Jay Ajayi back from their bye weeks!

Barry Crockers 93 @ 124 Get It Right Next Time
A huge total for the team with the joint-best 6-2 season record - and it could have been even more with two massive scorers, QB Derek Carr (35) and RB Jordan Howard (25) resting on the bench (though obviously with Drew Brees on the roster, it would have taken some sort of ESP to pick Carr instead). No damage done though as everyone hit double figures with the exception of the kicker - in a big score like this, it's surprising that the top performer, Brees, only managed 20. The Crockers actually had the highest scorer, RB Matt Forte with 21, but a total of 93, although a reasonable weekly score, was never going to be enough to challenge GIRNT.

Bruschi 54s 71 @ 96 X-Men
Both teams above .500 at 5-3 for the season after this win for the X-Men. QB Tom Brady making up for lost time scored a fine 29, and RB Jonathan Stewart got 21, accounting for over half the points total for the X-Men. Similarly, the top scorers for the 54s were the QB and RB1 position, Jameis Winston (19) and Melvin Gordon (15), but a string of low scorers from other players condemning the 54s to the loss.

Crystal Tipps 85 @ 75 Caracas Firecrackers
The previously 1-6 Tipps in desparate need of a result, and they got it with this narrow win over the Firecrackers. A pair of 18's from QB Andrew Luck and the Broncos DST just enough to take them over the line. Firecrackers struggled a bit this week with only RB DeMarco Murray (18) and WR Chris Hogan (15) turning in above-average performances.

WEEK 9 SCHEDULE

Crystal Tipps (2-6) @ Forest Tigers (2-6)
Caracas Firecrackers (5-3) @ Chingford Gingers (4-4)
Putney Gooners (2-6) @ Cornish Tinners (4-4)
X-Men (5-3) @ Portsmouth Pirates (6-2)

WEEK 9 RESULTS

Crystal Tipps 63 @ 79 Forest Tigers
In the battle of 2-6 teams, it was the Tigers who came out on top, just about keeping their season alive. Two good scorers, TE Jimmy Graham back on track with 22, and garbage-time specialist QB Blake Bortles with 21. For the Tipps, getting a bit cast adrift in the Central Division - not a lot! Just WR Robert Woods having a good day with 16 points.

Caracas Firecrackers 74 @ 111 Chingford Gingers
Nice win for the Gingers to move into joint top of the Eastern. A spectacular 30 from RB Latavius Murray, with 19 from QB Phil Rivers and 15 each from WR Jordy Nelson and RB Tim Hightower. The battle of the Murray running backs definitely going to the Gingers, as namesake DeMarco could only manage an average 13 for the Firecrackers. A fine score from QB Russell Wilson (26) but nothing of any note from the rest of the team.

Putney Gooners 75 @ 116 Cornish Tinners
Top score of the week (just!) from the Tinners, courtesy of two excellent scorers in RB Mark Ingham (28) and QB Matt Ryan (27). Not a great week for the Eastern cellar-dwelling Gooners with only rookie RB Jay Ajayi continuing his fine run of form with 18 points, and fellow rookie QB Trevor Siemian adding 15.

X-Men 108 @ 81 Portsmouth Pirates
X-Men move to joint top of the Central with this comfortable win over the Pirates who even with the loss remain joint top of their division, the Western. Star performer was WR Mike Evans with 27, but apart from a disappointing RB duo everyone else chipped in with double-figure scoring. QB Colin Kaepernick was the latest quarterback to have fun against the Saints "defence", totalling 21 points, and K Josh Lambo added an impressive 13, but not much else for the Pirates this week.

Barry Crockers 94 @ 115 Bruschi 54s
The 54s move to the top of the Western with this win. RB Melvin Gordon was the star performer of the week with 31 points with QB Jameis Winston and WRs Julio Jones and Michael Thomas adding 21, 19 and 17 respectively. The Crockers put in a well balanced week and a reasonable total, just not enough against this week's opponent - 5 players scoring between 13 and 16 points each.

Get It Right Next Time 86 @ 88 Fulchester Fish
Tightest game of the week with the Fish just scraping through. QB Aaron Rodgers leading the way with 25 points, backed up by ageless RB Frank Gore's 19. Two big scorers, accounting for more than half of the total, for GIRNT - QB Drew Brees (24) and RB Ezekiel Elliott (21) - just no help from anyone else on the GIRNT team. Both teams are now in joint first in their respective divisions.

WEEK 10 SCHEDULE

Forest Tigers (3-6) @ Cornish Tinners (5-4)
Chingford Gingers (5-4) @ X-Men (6-3)
GIRNT (6-3) @ Portsmouth Pirates (6-3)
Barry Crockers (3-6) @ Crystal Tipps (2-7)
Bruschi 54s (6-3) @ Fulchester Fish (5-4)
Caracas Firecrackers (5-4) @ Putney Gooners (2-7)

WEEK 10 RESULTS

Forest Tigers 76 @ 92 Cornish Tinners
Another loss for last year's champs - post-season play this time looking extremely unlikely for the Tigers. For the Tinners, WR Antonio Brown top-scored with 21, while leader for the Tigers was QB Blake Bortles with 17. Cornish Tinners improve to a 6-4 record, but that's still only good enough for 3rd place in the Central Division.

Chingford Gingers 69 @ 90 X-Men
Comfortable win for the X-Men behind WR Doug Baldwin's 23 and The Ravens DST's 16. WR Jordy Nelson scored 18 and QB Phil Rivers still somehow managed 17 despite his 4-interception day for the Gingers but too many sub-standard scorers on the rest of the team ensured the loss. X-Men move to a 7-3 record in the Central, level with...

Get It Right Next Time 118 @ 74 Portsmouth Pirates
...GIRNT, who had the distinct advantage this week of one of the season's best scorers, RB Ezekiel Ellott running and recieving his wasy to 38 points. Two more fine performances from RB LeGarrett Blount (24) and QB Drew Brees (20) meant that GIRNT ended up with the high score of the week. Pirates never really in contention, although RB David Johnson did his part with 21, but at 6-4 for the year, they are still in a good position.

Barry Crockers 102 @ 62 Crystal Tipps
Big win for the Crockers with QB Cam Newton's 23 and WR Allan Robinson's 18 the highlights, though there were plenty of other players just into double figures. WR Tyrell Williams scored 18 for the Tipps, but not a great week for them - a 2-8 record in the toughest division pretty much meaning no post-season play this time around. The Crockers themselves are only 4-6, but in the weak Eastern Division, that's only a game out of 1st place.

Bruschi 54s 84 @ 79 Fulchester Fish
Bruschi 54s are top of the West after this narrow win over the Fish. QB Jameis Winston scored 18 and kicker Dan Bailey added 14 for the 54s. The Fish's QB Aaron Rodgers put up another stellar show with 26, even if the Packers stunk up the joint in real life, but there wasn't too much else. A 5-5 record is still good enough for joint top spot in the East though.

Caracas Firecrackers 104 @ 114 Putney Gooners
The Firecrackers put up a good enough showing to beat most opponents, but ran into an inspired Putney Gooners team. The Steelers duo of QB Ben Roethlisberger and RB LeVeon Bell did much of the damage with 28 and 24 points respectively, with WRs Dez Bryant (17) and Stefan Diggs (16) also doing their bit. Four good scorers for the Firecrackers too - RB DeMarco Murray (25), QB Joe Flacco (21), WR Willie Snead (16) and K Steven Hauschka (14) - but they fall just a little short. Gooners still just about alive in the East at 3-7, Firecrackers, after their third straight loss drop to a .500 record but still well in the hunt in the West.

WEEK 11 SCHEDULE

Forest Tigers (3-7) @ Barry Crockers (4-6)
Portsmouth Pirates (6-4) @ Chingford Gingers (5-5)
Cornish Tinners (6-4) @ Caracas Firecrackers (5-5)
Get It Right Next Time (7-3) @ Bruschi 54s (7-3)
Fulchester Fish (5-5) @ Crystal Tipps (2-8)

WEEK 11 RESULTS

A lot of close games this week!

Forest Tigers 88 @ 92 Barry Crockers
And here's the first...but with this loss, the Tigers are now officially done. (Though, the first of many reminders - next year's draft positions are determined by this year's finishing order, so still something to play for!). Crockers stay well alive in the East, even with a losing record - they had the Lions D (20) and RB Rasahd Jennings (18) mainly to thank for this narrow win. The Tigers also got great scoring from the DST (Vikings with 22) - in fact, these were the two of the top three high-scoring defences of the week - and RB Robert Kelley managed a massive score of 31 for the overall high scorer - but there was little else from the rest of the team.

Portsmouth Pirates 80 @ 86 Chingford Gingers
Pirates on a worrying three-game losing streak, and the Gingers rising to the top of the East after this close one. With a couple of exceptions (QB Marcus Mariota (21) for the Gingers, RB David Johnson (27) for the Pirates), no huge scoring from either side - the Pirates will no doubt be thinking that WR AJ Green might have made the difference but for his very early injury which looks like it might cost him the rest of the year.

Cornish Tinners 52 @ 92 Caracas Firecrackers
The first of only two blowouts this week as the Tinners had a really rough week. The Firecrackers were led by QB Russell Wilson with 22, aided by RB Lamar Miller (16) and WR T.Y.Hilton (15) - for the Tinners, barring QB Eli Manning's 17, a tale of woe. Both teams at 6-5 though, and both still well in the hunt for post-season play.

Get It Right Next Time 101 @ 74 Bruschi 54s
The only team to top the 100 mark this week, GIRNT's win cements their place at the top of the Central with a league-best 8-3 record. THe Steelers D were the biggest scorers with 22, but apart from a complete no-show from WR Golden Tate, all the skill positions chipped in with double or nearly double figure totals. QB Kirk Cousins had a very good day with 27 for the 54s but no-one else bar RB James Starks (12) did much. The 54s may have lost this one, but they're still top of the West at 7-4.

Fulchester Fish 81 @ 83 Crystal Tipps
Back to the close games, and a mere 2-point win for the Tipps (and this wasn't even the tightest game of the week!). QB Andrew Luck (18), WR Pierre Garcon (17) and WR Steve Smith (15) were the main scorers for the Tipps, though their roster took a bit of a pounding injury-wise with Luck and RB Gio Bernard definitely out next week, and WR Robert Woods and RB LeSean McCoy looking shaky. On the Fish side, QB Aaron Rodgers manfully did his best with 29 points but a trio of appalling scores from both RB and one WR slots did the damage. Despite this win though, courtesy of other results, that's it this time around for the Tipps - Fish hanging on at 5-6 in the poor East division.

X-Men 86 @ 87 Putney Gooners
...and the 1-point squeaker, taken by the Gooners. Two big, seven poor scorers for them - but RB LeVeon Bell's 25 and WR Dez Bryant's 20 proved just enough. For the X-Men, QB Tom Brady topscored in a big way with 28, but aside from two oK WR performances from Doug Baldwin (14) and Mike Evans (10), it meant that the X-Men fall agonisingly short. X-Men at 7-4, obviously in with a good shout, but the Gooners at 4-7, and bottom of the East, still also in the running.

WEEK 12 SCHEDULE (finishing the season off with three inter-divisional matchups)

Portsmouth Pirates (6-5) @ Forest Tigers (3-8)
Bruschi 54s (7-4) @ Caracas Firecrackers (6-5)
Crystal Tipps (3-8) @ X-Men (7-4)
Cornish Tinners (6-5) @ Get It Right Next Time (8-3)
Chingford Gingers (6-5) @ Putney Gooners (4-7)
Barry Crockers (5-6) @ Fulchester Fish (5-6)

WEEK 12 RESULTS

Portsmouth Pirates 83 @ 62 Forest Tigers
A win for the Pirates keeping them well up with the pace in the West, mainly courtesy of an excellent showing from QB Colin Kaepernick (32) and also good work from RB David Johnson (21). Not much else, but not much else was needed as the out-of-contention Tigers didn't have a great week with just QB Blake Bortles putting up a decent total with 21.

Bruschi 54s 85 @ 53 Caracas Firecrackers
The 54s remain king of the West after this comfortable win. Quarterback again the star position in this matchup as Kirk Cousins passes his way to 29 points, with good backup from the Chiefs DST (13). A really poor week for the Firecrackers with only QB Russell Wilson scraping his way just into double figures (10), but they are still clinging on to hopes of post-season play, albeit now relying on other teams.

Crystal Tipps 100 @ 114 X-Men
Two century scorers here, but the X-Men come out on top of the unlucky Tipps team. Four X-Men with good scoring, WRs Mike Evans and Odell Beckham with 22 and 21 respectively, and RB Johnathan Stewart (21) and QB Tom Brady (19). Many good scorers on the Tipps roster too, led by RB LeSean McCoy (27) and QB Tyrod Taylor (19), but unfortunate to draw the X-Men this week. X-Men in good position for post-season, if not as Central champs then as the wildcard - Tipps in a battle for the wooden spoon this time around.

Cornish Tinners 96 @ 120 Get It Right Next Time
GIRNT put in a huge score to beat the Tinners and remain in pole position in the Central. Good scoring all around, topped by QB Drew Brees (32) and B Ezekiel Elliott (23). For the Tinners, WR Antonio Brown had a fine week with 3TDs leading to 27 points, and the Falcons duo of QB Matt Ryan and RB Devonta Freeman added 36 between them but the rest of the squad just fell short, not helped by the Rams embarassing -4 points from the DST slot. Tinners still with very faint hopes of the final four, though it will require a lot of things to go their way.

Chingford Gingers 89 @ 133 Putney Gooners
Top score of the week, top score of the season, for the mighty Gooners! QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB LeVeon Bell, TE Jordan Reed and WR Davonte Adams all hit 20 or better and even kicker Justin Tucker and his 3 50+ yard FGs chimed in with 19. Gingers' 89 points is not a bad weekly total, with QB Marcus Mariota's 21 leading the way, but it wasn't nearly enough to stop the Gooners juggernaut. The East division is really tight with only 1 win separating all four teams.

Barry Crockers 54 @ 77 Fulchester Fish
A scrappy win for the Fish in a less-than-inspiring contest. 22 from perennial Fish-saviour QB Aaron Rodgers, and 21 from the Giants DST, this weeks beneficiary of the "start this DST against Cleveland" award made up more than half the Fish total, but courtesy of a down-week from the Crockers (only QB Cam Newton managed a reasonable total of 19, and that looked unlikely at halftime), it was enough to take the win. As mentioned above though, all to be decided in the East.

WEEK 13 SCHEDULE

Forest Tigers (3-9) @ Bruschi 54s (8-4)
Caracas Firecrackers (6-6) @ Portsmouth Pirates (7-5)
X-Men (8-4) @ Cornish Tinners (6-6)
Get It Right Next Time (9-3) @ Crystal Tipps (3-9)
Putney Gooners (5-7) @ Barry Crockers (5-7)
Fulchester Fish (6-6) @ Chingford Gingers (6-6)

By my reckoning, 10 of the 12 teams still in with a shout.

WEEK 13 RESULTS

Forest Tigers 70 @ 103 Bruschi 54s
Comfortable win for the 54s with most of the team coming to the party, led by RB Melvin Gordon (19) and a finally healthy TE Ladarius Green (17). Similarly for the Tigers, a balanced looking roster, but everyone slightly underperforming their 54s counterparts with only TE Jimmy Graham (12) and WR Amari Cooper (11) hitting double digits.

Caracas Firecrackers 84 @ 84 Portsmouth Pirates - Firecrackers win on better bench total
A real nail-biter in this important Western division matchup, just nicked by the Firecrackers with a much better (very impressive 75!) bench score (this being the first tiebreaker for tied scores). TY Hilton needed to outscore Brandon Marshall by 10 points last night, and did exactly that, collecting 14 points. RB Terrance West, K Steven Hauschka amd QB Russell Wilson added 18,16 and 15 respectively. Three big scorers, six disappointments on the Pirates side - RB David Johnson's fine 29, backed up by 16 from the Bears D and 14 from K Dustin Hopkins - agonisingly close!

X-Men 71 @ 78 Cornish Tinners
Tinners take a tight one over the X-Men in part courtesy of a good showing from the Falcons duo of QB Matt Ryan (15) and RB Devonta Freeman (21). RB Spencer Ware also added a useful 16 points. A slightly down week for the X-Men, for whom the top scorers were the Patriots pair of QB Tom Brady and the DST, both scoring 14.

Get It Right Next Time 115 @ 105 Crystal Tipps
Top dogs Get It Right Next Time continue their fine season with a high scoring win over the Tipps, who themselves had a good week, just not good enough against this opponent. RB Jordan Howard's 29 was the star showing, but plenty of low-teen scores added up to another excellent week for GIRNT. Howard's score was matched for the Tipps by QB Andrew Luck with RB LeSean McCoy (19) and K Stephen Gostkowski (17) also doing sterling work - 105 would have beaten all other teams this week - unlucky Tipps!

Putney Gooners 80 @ 77 Barry Crockers
Another close result in a vital division game with the Gooners just coming out on top. Steelers duo of QB Ben Roethlisberger (17) and RB LeVeon Bell (15) topped the Gooners charts with WR Dez Bryant adding 14. For the Crockers, three players with a round dozen - QB Cam Newton, RB Doug Martin and K Matt Bryant.

Fulchester Fish 71 @ 104 Chingford Gingers
Equal biggest win of the week for the Gingers with the remarkably similar score from the Tigers/54s match. RB Latavius Murray top scored with 22. and K Matt Prater's 18 and WR Jordy Nelson's 17 ensured a three figure score for the Gingers. QB Aaron Rodgers was unable to do his normal fantasy team saving act (but still top scored with 15) as the Fish turned in a rather weak performance this time around.

WHAT IT MEANS...

So with one week to go, here's the playoff situation.

Western
Bruschi 54s are the champs and are guaranteed post-season play.
Portsmouth Pirates - oddly, although they are above the Firecrackers, that's it for this year - see below
Caracas Firecrackers - chances of the wildcard spot
Forest Tigers finish 4th

Central
Get It Right Next Time are the champs and are guaranteed post-season play
X-Men - chances of the wildcard spot
Cornish Tinners - chances of the wildcard spot
Crystal Tipps finish 4th

Eastern
Only the winner of the division will qualify, and that could be any one of Chingford Gingers, Fulchester Fish and Putney Gooners
Barry Crockers the only team in this division who are out of it.
If the Gingers win this week, they're the champs.
If they don't, I think these are the varios scenarios.
Fish beat Gooners, Crockers beat Gingers - Fish and GIngers both 7-7, series tied 1-1 - GIngers will be champs unless the Fish score 73 points more than the Gingers.
Gooners beat Fish, Crockers beat Gingers - Gooners and Gingers both 7-7, series tied 1-1, Gingers will be champs unless the Gooners score 15 more than the Gingers.
So, obvious advantage Gingers - good chance Gooners - fat chance Fish!

Wildcard possibilities...
First up, the easy scenario - if the X-Men win this week they grab the wildcard spot.
An X-Men loss however and various teams currently at 7-6 will come into the mix with a final week win - and by far the best chance of these teams are the Firecrackers who hold the tiebreaker over the X-Men courtesy of a win in week 7. The Tinners would have to rely on a win and a 60+ point scoring advantage over the X-Men as their head to head record is 1-1 so it would go to the 2nd tiebreaker of total points scored - and that's roughly the margin they are currently behind the X-Men. The Pirates, even with a win and an X-Men loss, putting both at 8-6, can not qualify due to their loss against the X-Men in week 9.

I had fun working all that out, hopefully it's all correct!

WEEK 14 SCHEDULE

Caracas Firecrackers (7-6) @ Forest Tigers (3-10)
Portsmouth Pirates (7-6) @ Bruschi 54s (9-4)
Get It Right Next Time (10-3) @ X-Men (8-5)
Crystal Tipps (3-10) @ Cornish Tinners (7-6)
Fulchester Fish (6-7) @ Putney Gooners (6-7)
Chingford Gingers (7-6) @ Barry Crockers (5-8)

What happens if both Pirates and Firecrackers win and X-Men lose? Can a third placed team qualify as a wild card above the second placed team in their own league? Seems counter-intuitive but if those are the rules...

Good point! I would imagine that the site would place Firecrackers second in the table in that situation. At the moment, a tie needs to be broken just in the division, and as the teams are level 1-1 head-to-head, currently the total points tiebreaker comes into effect, thus Pirates are above Firecrackers. At the end of the season, when ties have to be broken between divisions for the wildcard, the head-to-head results between all three teams will take precedence, and Firecrackers would leapfrog Pirates on this basis.
But if you win, it's all academic anyway...

Not a snowball's chance in Hell given the current scoring records. Even if I did I'd have to win twice in successive weeks against the highest scoring team in the league...it's more straightforward to go straight to the draft comp... :D

Jeez this is getting complicated! I thought I had it all worked out but of course you're correct, that's another possibility. Short answer is I'm afraid I don't know  All I can put out there is this (from the help section on the ESPN site).

" When Head-to-Head record is selected as the tiebreaker criteria, and in the event that three or more teams have the same winning percentage at the end of the regular season, these teams must have played the same number of games for it to be used."

4 teams in this case would have finished with the same winning percentage (8-6) and each team would also have played a total of 4 head-to-head games against their three rivals (although, and this is where it's not completely clear, not the same number of games against each team - for example Pirates will have had two games against the Firecrackers as division rivals and only one against the X-Men and the Tinners, while the X-Men will have had two against the Tinners etc.) I'm not sure whether this counts as "the same number of games". If it does, and gramatically it does, I guess the Firecrackers would take it with a total of three wins against head-to-head rivals - if it doesn't, the head-to-head tiebreaker is discarded and reverts to total points scored, where X-Men have the huge advantage at the moment. But I could be wrong :D (Disclaimer - root canal dentistry earlier this afternoon, not at my sparkling best...)

As an aside, perhaps next year we could use total points as a tiebreaker? I'll do a poll next week. (I've got another suggestion as well for later on - watch this space.)

WEEK 14 RESULTS

Caracas Firecrackers 68 @ 58 Forest Tigers
The Firecrackers did what they had to do to try and remain involved, even though it was a fairly rough outing, but to no avail due to the X-Men win. A pair of 17s from RB Lamar Miller and WR TY Hilton backed with 15 from RB DeMarco Murray but very little from elsewhere. Tigers ending their disappointing season with a bit of a whimper as well with QB Blake Bortles (15), RB Robert Kelley (14) and K Caleb Sturgis (12) the only players of note. Firecrackers are in good position to grab the number one draft spot next year, Tigers - not so much!

Portsmouth Pirates 58 @ 74 Bruschi 54s
54s ended their fine regular season with another victory although it wasn't one of their highest-scoring weeks. RB Jeremy Hill had the Bengals backfield to himself with the absence of Gio Bernard and made it count with 20 points while QB Kirk Cousins chipped in with 15. On to the playoffs for the 54s! As it turned out, even a Pirates win wouldn't have been enough for them to get into the postseason, but it wasn't a great showing from them this week - the Giants D top scored with 13 points. They do however finish 6th overall, so a good chance of nabbing the number one draft spot next year, with a couple of wins in the consolation ladder games.

Get It Right Next Time 69 @ 95 X-Men
This turned out to be the pivotal battle of the week as the X-Men took a good win to save us all from the many permutations of tiebreaks detailed in the posts above! QB Tom Brady had another great day totalling 26 points, and TE Tyler Eifert and WR Odell Beckham added 16 and 15 respectively. Not too much of note from the #1 seeds GIRNT in this game with a top score of only 13 from RB LeGarrett Blount, but perhaps they're saving themselves for the playoffs, where they will be playing...the X-Men in an immediate rematch!

Crystal Tipps 73 @ 55 Cornish Tinners
Tipps lifted themselves out of the wooden spoon position with this win over the Tinners - another low scoring game in a week full of them. 16 each from QB Andrew Luck and RB LeSean McCoy led for the Tipps - the Tinners, needing a win and other results to go their way, subsided rather meekly with only QB Matt Ryan (21) into double figures. As it turned out, even a win wouldn't have been enough, due to the X-Men's victory over Get It Right Next Time.

Fulchester Fish 92 @ 105 Putney Gooners
In contrast quite a high scoring game - the Gooners did what they needed to, ie win, but the Chingford Gingers victory meant that the Gooners miss out on the division championship. It does help the total when one of your players amasses 298 yards from scrimmage and scores 3 TDS! - RB LeVeon Bell shattering the best personal performance of the season for 47 points. WR Davante Adams' 16 looks small beer in comparison - and the Gooners could even afford a negative score from WR Dez Bryant. The Fish had a pretty good week behind QB Aaron Rodgers' 21, but I'd be surprised if any team anywhere this week would have beaten an opponent carrying Bell.

Chingford Gingers 100 @ 55 Barry Crockers
The Gingers knew that a win would give them the division title, and they promptly went out and secured the biggest victory margin of the week. RB Carlos Hyde scored 25, and there were a trio of 16's from RB Latavius Murray, RB Tevin Coleman and WR Jordy Nelson as the Gingers just scraped into three figures. The Crockers ended a slightly disappointing season with a poor outing, RB Doug Martin leading with just 13. Gingers into the playoffs, just the consolation ladder left for the Crockers to try and pick up positions to move themselves up the draft order for next year.

WEEK 15 RESULTS

X-Men 54 @ 111 Get It Right Next Time
The #1 seed Get It Right Next Time cruised to victory in the first semi-final. QB Drew Brees scored 29 and RB Ezekiel Elliott 23 as GIRNT practically doubled the X-Men's total. Only RB Jonathan Stewart (13) and WR Odell Beckham (12) managed double figures for the X-Men who bow out here at the end of a season where they were the 2nd highest scorers of all the 12 teams. GIRNT on to the final to play...

Chingford Gingers 74 @ 94 Bruschi 54s
...the 54s - and we have a matchup of the #1 and #2 seeds, as it should be, for the championship game. All-purpose offensive weapon Ty Montgomery accumulated 28 points from his various endeavours, and Dan Bailey had a good day, despite missing two long FGs, still totalling 15. No one really set the world alight for the Gingers with QB Philip Rivers (14), TE Cameron Brate (13) and WR Jordy Nelson (12) being the three top scorers.

Portsmouth Pirates 92 @ 108 Caracas Firecrackers
Firecrackers cemented their place at the top of the consolation ladder with this high-scoring win over the Pirates. Seahawks combo of QB Russell Wilson and WR Tyler Lockett were the Firecrackers stars with 20 and 19 respectively, and there was plenty of help from other skill positions. Three Pirates hit the 20 point mark, RB Ryan Matthews (20) and another pair of teammates, QB Carson Palmer (20) and RB David Johnson (22) but they didn't have the same level of backup as the Firecrackers team.

Putney Gooners 78 @ 96 Cornish Tinners
Tinners with a good win over the Gooners. Another QB/RB combo from the same NFL team, in this case the Falcons, did the damage for the Tinners as RB Devonta Freeman had a great 30 point day and QB Matt Ryan added 19. Not a great deal from anywhere else but all the bits and pieces were enpugh for the win. The Dolphins DST had fun with the Jets on their way to 21 points and QB Ben Roethlisberger managed 15, but too many subpar showings from other players meant a defeat for the Gooners.

Barry Crockers 67 @ 78 Fulchester Fish
A rather ugly win for the Fish in the lowest scoring game of the week. RB Bilal Powell collected 15 and 4 other players scored 11 or 12 for them - top scorer of the matchup was the Crockers' QB Cam Newton with 20 but apart from K Matt Bryant's 14 there was little help from elsewhere.

Forest Tigers 78 @ 85 Crystal Tipps
The closest game of the week, won by the Tipps to complete a clean sweep of wins by the higher seeds. Very similar looking scoring patterns for both teams, one huge scorer for each (28 for the Tipps RB LeSean McCoy, 30 for the Tigers WR Brandin Cooks), good scoring from the kicking position from both Stephen Gostkowski and Caleb Sturgis, and not too much from anywhere else.

WEEK 16 RESULTS

Championship game.

Bruschi 54s 70 @ 100 Get It Right Next Time
Congratulations to Get It Right Next Time - the season 10 champions! Star rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott scored 21 before being pulled midway through the game to save him for future games and TE Travis Kelce helped himself to 22. Nice scores from RB LeGarratt Blount (17) and QB Drew Brees (15) too, compensating for the almost total lack of production from the WRs this week. No matter! QK Kirk Cousins did his best with an excellent score of 29 bit the rest of the squad didn't really join in so the 54s fall at the final hurdle.

3rd/4th place game.

X-Men 106 @ 111 Chingford Gingers
Lots of close games in the final week of the season as the Gingers just scrape past the X-Men for the bronze medal. WR Jordy Nelson scored 27 and he was well backed up by RB Tevin Coleman (19) and QB Philip Rivers (18). On the X-Men side, WR Doug Baldwin led with 23, QB Tom Brady and the Pats D added 20 and 16 respectively.

Consolation ladder

Cornish Tinners 90 @ 71 Caracas Firecrackers
In the battle for the #1 draft spot next year, the Tinners upset the higher seeded Firecrackers to take the prize. Three good scorers for the Tinners, RB Mark Ingram (23), QB Matt Ryan (19) and WR Antonio Brown (15). In contrast, pretty much a one man show for the Firecrackers, QB Russell Wilson's 33 accounting for practically half the entire total - WR TY Hilton was the only other player to get into double figures with 12.

Fulchester Fish 90 @ 93 Portsmouth Pirates
The Pirates won a close one to raise their position on the final ladder. RB David Johnson the definite star with 29 and good help from WR Sammy Watkins (21). As with the Firecrackers team, a one-man quarterbacking performance from Aaron Rodgers (36) just not enough to get the Fish home, hindered by a not great selection of the final roster with an inordinate number of points left on the bench.

Crystal Tipps 102 @ 103 Putney Gooners
The narrowest of wins for the Gooners in a battle where both teams hit the century mark. Two RBs, Jay Ajayi (26) and Leveon Bell (25) had good days for the Gooners and QB Ben Roethlisberger did his bit with 19 - just enough overall to compensate for a negative score from the Dolphins DST. QB Andrew Luck (24) and RB LeSeam McCoy (19) were the Tipps tops but despite everyone else bar the Broncos D chipping in with bits and pieces, the Tipps fall agonisingly short.

Forest Tigers 91 @ 63 Barry Crockers
The Tigers lifted themselves off the bottom of the ladder at the last to consign the Crockers to the wooden spoon position. QB Blake Bortles had one of his better days with 25 points and WR Cameron Meredith scored 19. Crockers season fizzled out a bit, in part due to injury (RB Thomas Rawls leaving the game before scoring a point) and part due to a coaches decision (Doug Martin a healthy scratch in Tampa Bay). K Matt Bryant was the lone Crocker to have a good day with a fine 19 points.
