I was going to take a year off from running my FISO Goals cups but am instead returning (with 2 of them at least). Will skip the complicated CL Stylee Cup that ended the season and just run the first two, starting with the no-longer-aptly-named-for-the-season-but-wonderfully-aptly-named-for-a-calendar-year Early Doors Cup

It was won last season by topspur in a disappointing final and in 2013-2014 by thebillfella beating MvL 8-7 in the final and prior to the enforced absence was won in 2010/11 by TheTon who beat barrydixey 7-5 in the final. In 2009/10 it was flyingkillercob who beat Big Bird 6-4 in the final. If you trawl the archives for the historical results you will see just how long this has been going (10 years including the recent break???)

This and the other cups (Knockout Cup and (previously) CL Stylee Cup) which will follow are effectively informal/unofficial side competitions run by me using scores in the formal/official FISO Goals competition.

It is the appropriately named 'Early Doors Cup' and works on a 'devil takes the hindmost' system of eliminating the lowest scorers each week until we get a winner.

The Timetable:

Set 20 12 Jan, 64* down to 32*
Set 21 16 Jan, 32* down to 16*
Set 22 23 Jan, 16* down to 8
Set 23 2 Feb, 8 down to 4
Set 24 6 Feb, 4 down to 2
Set 25 13 Feb, The Final

(dates are first date of 'set' and there are 2 middweek sets amongst them - all subject to change if the fixtures do or I've cocked up)

We will start eliminating people in Set 20 when entries will close and competition will start. In reality we probably won't get anything like 64 or even 32 so I will amend the numbers getting through in the first couple of rounds so there is a degree of competition from the gun. In any case we will aim for 8 remaining for Set 23. The actual numbers will be my decision and announced just prior to our first round commencing.

In the early rounds if there is a tie all teams on that border will go through. e.g. if 6 teams are level for 31st place in Set 20 and the target is 32 teams then they will all go through so we have 36 teams left rather than 32. Those in 37th etc are out. The next week we would still be aiming at 16 remaining (as opposed to half the teams).

In sets 23-25 there will be tie-breakers in effect as per previous years' rules. Therefore there will be only 4 semi-finalists, 2 finalists and one winner.

To enter you need to sign up for the Early Doors Cup 2015/16 minileague:

You'll need to go to the FISO Goals site section of FISO
- click the 'fiso Games' logo/link at the top of most pages.
- select FISO Goals
or just go here:
- Click 'My Mini Leagues' on the left of the new page
- enter the following into the 'Join a Mini League' boxes:
League ID = 40
Password = earlydoors
- click the box marked 'Join'

Cut-off = you need to be in by first kick off, set 20 (DEADLINE = 7:45pm Tues 12th Jan) and be one of the first 64 to guarantee yourself a spot.
(unlike previous years if we haven't reached a certain number of teams by then we will NOT keep entry open until we do - we are closing the (early) doors and starting eliminating from Set 20)

Newcomers (FISO veterans and newbies alike) more than welcome.
As this is my own private comp, I'll be reserving the right to not admit or throw out anybody who doesn't treat FISO properly and doesn't post in good spirit. As a rule of thumb this will mean you are banned if you are on my foe list so essentially they'll just be troll-free.

I've said to a few people on PM that I will allow (late) entries til first kick off tonight so will say it here too.

I will stick to kicking out just 10 after this week's games so it won't harm the chances of any early entrants, in fact it may increase them if the latecomers do badly.
