Fantasy Racing 2015-16 * Stable Stars game *

Post by SamD »

Summary of At The Races Stable Stars competition

- free to play; one entry per person

- week one deadline is 6pm, Fri 13 Nov

- stable star can be changed every week

FULL RULES

Competition period: Saturday 14 November 2015 to Saturday 30 April 2016.

Points Scoring begins: First race on Saturday 14 November 2015.

Entries Open – Monday 2 November 2015.

Entries Close – 6pm on 22 April 2016.

Once the final transfer window has closed on 22/04/2016, no more stables will be allowed into the Stable Stars Game.

Setting up your Stable

Players must create their own team/stable name upon submitting an entry.

A stable will comprise of 10 horses, 2 Elite Selections and 8 Main Selections and one horse will have to be selected as the “Stable Star”.

Stables set up after 6pm, Friday 13 November will not be eligible to win points in the first Game week. Stables set up in a defined “Game Week” after 6pm, 13 November will only be eligible to start winning points in the following “Game Week”. Each “Game Week” runs from 12am Saturday to 11.59pm Friday.

Stable Star

Players must nominate one horse to be their “Stable Star” each week. A horse must be selected as “stable star” upon submitting entry, which can be changed each week (if not changed, then that same horse remains the “Stable Star”).

Each player’s Stable Star scores double points for winning a race in that week.

Calculating scores

Horses winning National Hunt races under the Rules of Racing (hurdles, chases and NH flat races) in Great Britain or Ireland will receive a number of points for each win. The number of points gained for each win is determined by the total amount of prize money the winning horse receives (as listed below):

Non-Bonus Races

Race value Points

Race worth £30,000/€40,000 or higher to winner 30
Race worth £25,000 to £29,999 (€33,500 to €39,999) to winner 25
Race worth £20,000 to £24,999 (€27,000 to €33,499) to winner 20
Race worth £15,000 to £19,999 (€20,000 to €26,999) to winner 15
Race worth £10,000 to £14,999 (€13,500 to €19,999) to winner 12
Race worth less than £10,000/€13,499 to winner 10

In the event of a dead-heat, points will be divided by the number of horses dead-heating with fractions rounded down. No points for a walkover. The official result on the day will be used for the calculation of points with any subsequent disqualifications disregarded.

Stable Star

A player’s Stable Star scores double points for winning a race in that week.

So if a player’s Stable Star, for example, was to win two races worth less than £10K that week (10pt score for winning each race), that player would receive 40pts instead of 20pts for those 2 wins.

Bonus Races

There will be a list of bonus races throughout the NH season, in which points can be earned for selecting the 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Players gain 50pts for selecting the winner of a bonus race, 25pts for second and 15pts for third. Click here to view the list of Bonus Races.

In the event of a dead-heat, points will be divided by the number of horses dead-heating with fractions rounded down. No points for a walkover. The official result on the day will be used for the calculation of points with any subsequent disqualifications disregarded.

Prizes

There is a £10,000 cash top prize for the player who finishes the Stable Stars Game on the highest points total. There will be also be prizes for the 2nd to 10th places in the Overall Game, the top 3 points scorers in the months of December, January, February, March & April, and Spot Game prizes, details of which can be found on the Prizes Page.

Transfers

Players are permitted unlimited transfers between 02/11/15 and 6pm on 13/11/15.

From 6pm on 13/11/15, players are permitted one transfer from the Main Selections List each Game Week, transfer window is open from 12.01am Monday to 6pm on Friday (please note that a transfer only affects your stable for the following game week and does not take immediate effect).

From 6pm on 13/11/15, players are permitted one Elite transfer each calendar month. The month in which the transfer is deemed to have been made is determined by the date of the Saturday on which the horse is added to the stable. The transfer is deemed to be made in the month in which that specific Saturday falls.

e.g. if a player decides to make an Elite Transfer on Monday 30 November, the Elite Selection will be transferred into his/her stable on Saturday 5 December, so this will count as that player's one Elite Transfer for December.

Private leagues

All players can set up their own private league by clicking here, and can invite friends, family & colleagues to compete against them in the Stable Stars Game. All players can also join another players private league. To join a private league you will need the league administrator to send you the exact name of the league and the individual four digit code, you can then join via the Private League's page on Stable Stables.

At The Races is not responsible for any prizes offered by individuals operating Private/Mini Leagues through stable-stars.com.

Additional Horses

As the season progresses additional horses may be added to the game. You will be able to transfer these horses into your stable. Check the “Recently Added” tab on the transfer page, to see latest horses added to the Main Selections List.

Abandoned meetings

In the event that any fixture involving a horse you have selected is cancelled or postponed to fall outside the Game time period (14/11/15 to 30/04/16) this selection will not score any points.

Injuries/Retirements/Bereavements

If you are unlucky enough to have any of the above you will have to transfer the affected parties out of your stable as per the normal Stable Stars transfer policy.

"A Pile of Horseshoes", brings the mini-league up to 5 teams.

Anyone interested in Fantasy Racing should look at this game as apart from the prize money which is dwarfed by £150,000 offered by Hills for the first two teams in "The Jumps", it appears to be by far the best fantasy racing comp. It's one of the few fantasy racing games that I've seen over the years that has been well designed by someone who knows what they are doing to achieve a fair, interesting but challenging game which still doesn't require competitors to invest too much time. It's far more interactive than most of the other games where you're stuck with your injured and failing horses all season, but still doesn't need much attention. Just a few minutes every Friday. Certainly far, far better both in terms of the game itself and the prize money than the only other interactive NH comp, the Telegraph's rather poor offering.

Presumably ATR didn't involve Matt Chapman then :)

How does a deadline which has been extended catch anyone off guard?

My guess is that this game is less likely to be won by a "luckster" than any other of this season's ten to follow games, as Sam's team has already suggested, it's tactically far more interesting.

Interesting dilemma here (as is the spelling of dilemna) :? To go for the wide open bonus races or not?
In the end I decided not as some of the 10 - 12 point hopefuls would be more likely to set up a sequence and I could put my big race fancies in the other comp anyway. Good luck to all Fiso players. FWIW my starting team is ..
FAUGHEEN * VAUTOUR ..... IRVING, GARDE LA VICTOIRE, SIZING JOHN, ANNIE POWER, OCEANE, UN TEMPS POUR TOUT, OUTLANDER, and SPRINTER SACRE.

That's just one of the interesting tactical questions thrown up by this comp. I've tended to go down the same route as yourself, although my teams are also not too dissimilar to Sam's even though he's been less interested in "penalty kicks". Certainly selecting King's Palace as captain was a brave decision, although It'll look a brilliant one if he is placed even and Faugheen gets beaten.

Another interesting decision relates to selecting ones Elite horses. I reluctantly chose Faugheen and Coneygree. I say reluctant, even though they were my two preferred selections ATM, because I can't see any way to use my Elite transfer for November. :? Ideally Faugheen will win tomorrow but later in the week be ruled out for 6-8 weeks.

I went with Faugheen and Don Cossack as these two potentially race first and then will then switch to Coneygree.

You're probably right, the 40-80 pts that you've typically lost this week, will to a considerable extent be balanced by having a more appropriate stable for the next week or two.

If King's Palace, and Faugheen had both won, given that this weekends other "penalty kicks" were converted, you'd be in a worse place, than you actually are. Good luck on making up the lost ground, but not too much after that.

I'm thinking Douvan and Silvianico Conti as transfers in this weekend. Douvan shouldn't be extended and may then run the following week in a better race. SC not my fav horse but can't be ignored in the main section. Anybody with any better ideas?

WAKE UP CALL!!

Most of you may not need it, but if you're like me you need to remember that the cut off for transfers is 6 pm this evening.

Just now I thought that I might as well make my Stable Stars transfer(s) as I might forget tomorrow morning.

So luckily went in to make them, only to find that the deadline is in just over an hour's time.

I'd certainly prefer Vatour to Douvan. Admittedly Douvan is that much more likely to win according to the market, but even so Vatour is odds on for a 30 pt race compared to Douvan's potential 10 pts. Also unless I've missed something, Vatour is far more likely to run in a bonus race in December, (or even two if he has an easy race tomorrow and Mullins is prepared to give him 3 races in 5 weeks), than Douvan.

Quite agree. I already have Vautour and he is * this week. Douvan just seemed to be a better option than Coneygree for my Nov. transfer. Very sporting owners to have a go at the Hennessey with 11.12 but that is surely an almighty task.

Looks like Vatour is the main (60 pt) interest of both of us, (and thousands of other Stable Star managers), this week.

The main advantage of Coneygree atm over Douvan is the fact that one doesn't need to win a bonus race to score a decent number of points. Hopefully it seems that his pricked hoof is now fine. Certainly wouldn't surprise me if he echos Denman's Hennessy performance.

Just Faugheen who let the party down.

UDS next in the Tingle Creek in a mouth watering class vs Sinonsig, SS, VV and Sire De Grugy.
