McDonald's FIFA World Cup 2014 Charity League

Post by spiderm4tt »

Hi all :)

Due to success of the FPL Charity League and also my Spiderm4tt's Web FPL league last season, where over 700 managers took part across the two leagues with over £700 raised for Save the Children, and a further £250 for Diabetes UK, I have decided to go ahead and set up a private McDonalds FIFA World Cup 2014 Charity League.

The league as usual is free to enter and is open to everyone in the fantasy football world. I will post the league code when the official game is up and running on June 8th: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/y=201 ... 36126.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The chosen charity for this McDonald's FIFA World Cup 2014 Charity League is 'TASK Brasil', which stands for 'The Abandoned Street Kids of Brazil'.

http://www.taskbrasil.org.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

https://www.facebook.com/taskbrasiltrust" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have chosen this charity in hope that we can all give some hope of life to the abandoned children of Brazil, as their own families, their government, and corporate organisations have failed them :(

TASK Brasil are registered charity who work on the ground in Brazil to provide socio-educational projects for disadvantaged kids to have better prospects in life through education & assistance to ex-residents so that they maintain continuous access to local support network and live in harmony with their families away from the streets.

Task Brasil runs cost effective community based socio-educational projects. Their work also includes follow-up support to the children and young people and their families who formerly lived at Task Brasil's homes.

Here is my Just Giving page to donate to TASK Brasil:

https://www.justgiving.com/Matthew-Martyniak1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There is a prize for the winner - it's a personalised World Cup 2014 Charity League winning mug! :)

Here is a photo of the winning prize for the FPL Charity League 2013/14, which was won by Steve Faulkner's team, Barntons Bashers.

Image

Also still going strong is the mug FISO kindly awarded me for winning the FPL title. I can vouch it is a superb prize which takes pride and place in my home - and makes great brews too! :)

Thank you again FISOers for all your support - I hope to see you in my McDonald's World Cup 2014 Charity League.

Let's help make a difference to disadvantaged children whilst we play our fantasy football!

Good luck!

Matt :)

Ha nice one Stemania - take it easy on us all :)

At this moment we up to 67 managers joined, which is great considering the league was only officially opened this morning.

Are you leaving the entry open for a while, Spidey? I'm likely to be tweaking my team until the deadline and would like to join - and contribute - later on

I'm exactly half way in 57th place on 101pts. Need to get a move on in 2nd round!

You're still up there Stemania after Rnd 3 of games 8-)

I've had to rely on Bentaleb past two rounds :oops: Thankfully he got a decent 4 recovered ball points this 3rd Rnd! :D

(Rank 56, and rising as people apparently transfer players out! :shock: )

Ha yes Stemania I think I noticed you went back to the summit a few days later :D Well you're still up there! 8-)

Here's the current top 10 going into tonight's final game. The current leader was on 716pts prior last nights game so not sure how many more players he'll twist to play tonight. This will leave the door open for any of the chasing pack to catch up, maybe down to 4th or 5th places have the most realistic chance of winning, including you Stemania! I know you winning would certainly be easier for me on the postage for the winning mug! :D

*Come on Stemania, you can do it! *

My suspicion is a full Netherlands block at the back, perhaps including captain, based on a spike in score shortly after the final whistle coupled with reviewing his semi-final team. You're still looking at c.30 points from elsewhere. I have my theories about who, but as I'm so close as well I'll share that after kick off. However it does mean that there's hope for the chasing pack.

Not sure I can include myself in there though - whilst I am currently 2nd (couldn't register as FISO name), I probably over-stretched myself last night. Bristol postage won't break the bank if I am pleasantly surprised though ;-)

Good luck Stemania. Fancy comparing team notes after kick-off?

A Khadera warmup disaster has probably extinguished my chances. Playing with 10. :(

Do you mean 10 playing tonight, though? Every time I check you're making up ground (on me - I wave the white flag as far as either league is concerned!)

Good effort anyways lads 8-)

Here is the final league table. We have a tie! That's double postage costs, and both abroad! Ha! It's getting expensive this fantasy football mini league stuff! :D

Congratulations to hoodiz and to Grounderz - excellently played throughout.

I noticed hoodiz had Schurrle and his late assist got him the vital points to claim joint first place. Also interesting is we knew he most probably had a Holland block on Saturdays 3rd place play off, but to get 72pts from four Dutch defenders and keeper (inc capt DeVrij) was key to his win. He also had Hummels 12pts for good measure to make it five at the back, reinforcing that this game benefitted defensive players crazily.

Image

Many thanks to all those who took part - a total of 135 managers entered, which was fantastic considering I only launched the league on the World Cup start day.

Also many thanks for the kind donations. A total of £105.74 has been raised, along with some awareness, for The Abandoned Street Kids of Brazil. I agree with what Mother Teresa said ~ if we can't help 100 people, then help just one. I'm sure this amount we have raised will help at least one abandoned child find a right path in life with education and support.

Thanks again everyone. Fantasy football, and FISO especially, is an amazing community - I am happy to be a part of it all! :)

I now needed to come up with a few puns for the winning mugs. Grounderez is easy I think: ie Grounderez grinds out a win. But I can't think of a pun for hoodiz :? Suggestions welcome :D

Many thanks for running the comp spidey and congrats to the winners. Sorry that my skill level wasn't high enough to save you on postage. :twisted:

I think I'll have to find a permanent marker and scrawl "6th" on my cheapest coffee mug...

Here are the winning personalised mugs for the two joint World Cup Charity League winners!

I tried my best with the headline puns for Grounderz & hoodiz with the limited word count available. Hoodies are still a fashion win, I think :D
