Brains of FISO quiz - Vote Off DECEMBER

Post by murf »

NOTE - THIS THREAD WILL BE USED FOR A NEW POLL EACH MONTH
saintmark wrote:ok time for a revamp to try and stop the moaning from people, starting from may 1st we will have a new category every month, this will be done based on murfs idea,so people will have today and tom to vote which category they wont gone for may and which category they want voted in in its place, there is a list somewhere to choose from im sure murf will find it,talking of murf you can sort out the voting side of it for me,after may the last 3 days of each month will be the voting period and murf will let me know the last day of the month what subject is going and which one os coming in,the only one that is staying at present will be the saturdsay guest round as personally i enjoy that round so need more people to put a category forward for that.

think thats it
This is the vote off poll. There are 6 options to vote off. One transferrable vote each. Most votes by Tuesday evening (whatever time I log in!) gets the boot. That topic will then be eligible on the vote IN poll next month so maybe isn't gone forever.

I will add a post in a bit about how the vote IN will work this month and in future. Poll to follow later.

Might as well use this thread to let you shout out some categories to vote in.

Here is the list saintmark previously gave of available/sensible categories. I've worked on the assumption that we will go for the hardest where there are a choice of levels so I've deleted the easier ones when there is more than one.

I've put some that will get the nod in bold and others in contention in italics. There will be no repeat of categories already in there but some are similar e.g. 'geography' and 'world'. I am wary of some as this is a predominantly US website and I don't know anything about their ideas of 'sports' and 'celebrities'. It will be my decision what goes into the poll, probably about 6 choices, but I am open to persuasion on this thread. In future months the runners up in a poll (2nd and 3rd?) will get another chance as will the topic voted off.

Fun trivia(mixed bag)
Animals
celebrities(hard)
General Knowledge(very difficult)
Geography(difficult)
History(difficult)
Hobbies
Literature(difficult)
Movies(difficult)
Music(difficult)
People(difficult)
Religion(difficult)
Religion(bible trivia)
Science + Technology(difficult)
Sports(baseball difficult)
Sports(general intermediate)
World(australia)
World(uk)
World trivia(difficult)
World(canada)
World(europe)

Let me know your thoughts...

I assumed it meant it was a difficult quiz about people rather than your interpretation that it is a quiz about difficult people....

Animals or Literature

[misread 'Hobbies' as 'Hobbits' when I read that list - was thinking that it was a bit of a limited topic]

This is my fear so it wouldn't get my vote though it probably should make the poll as we are a 'sports' forum.

How are the specialist rounds selected? is there a much longer list somewhere? In other words why we can get all sorts of bizarre topics when we ask for them but the general topics are relatively restricted?

You'd have to ask saintmark - the list above came from a post of his on the previous test vote off thread.

I'd imagine that if we had (for example) 'Ballet' every week then there would be a more limited question pool and we would see more frequent repeating of questions.

h the guest rounds as you all know ask me for a subject or add it to the list on page 114 in the thread,i then have to put in a search bar in my admin bit and it either comes up with what you ask for or the closest thing related to it,thou sometimes aint related that much, like when we had someone choose bluegrass the only subject it had was kentucky.i have no control whats in the question pool there is about 10,000 quizes that various people have added to the pool and when i type in a subject it has to look throu all the quizes and there is not always any questions on the chosen subject.

any othe questions on the guest round lol

no pleasing some people i thought most would like the guest round as generally gives everyone a chance at something they know and give them a chance to be at the top at least once in a while instead of same people

Of those

Fun trivia (mixed bag)
Animals
Literature (difficult)
World trivia (difficult)
World (europe) - assuming we have no non euro players

Perhaps we should have in the vote off categories an option that is "No change" not that I would have chosen in but in a couple of votes time I might.

It crossed my mind but it is no bad thing to mix it up very slightly every month. Subjects may only stay or go for one month if the vote says so. Every poll winner (vote off and vote in) will feature in the opposite poll the next month....

The quiz is fantastic and thank you very much for keeping it going. We all like to moan when we don't do well though  nothing personal to you. It's not your fault that they're sometimes a bit random.

The best guest round was cycling. Maybe that should be a regular weekly category...

A topic that is currently 114 pages long shows how popular the quiz is! If FISOers didn't moan then I'd be worried. Try and find a thread where someone isn't having a moan about something (or nothing most of the time)!!

The fact we got 31 entries on sunday shows saintmark is (/we are) doing something right. The numbers haven't really dropped at all.

What's interesting about the guest round is just how often the person who selects it doesn't win. That's because the questions are so obscure that no-one has a chance of scoring more than 5 and those who are lucky guessers win.

To be fair, I said I was happy with everything other than the Guest Round. I'm not moaning about it, other than saying that if we're voting to get rid of things it seems to be a round that divides opinion (like Margaret Thatcher!).

I need to make it clear that I really enjoy the quiz and am happy to have it stay exactly like it is. If, however, we're voting to get rid of something, my vote would be the Guest Round. As that's not there I'll abstain...

Actually a thought does occur that instead of abstaining I should have the choice of voting for 'no change' - which is a sort of anti-moaning vote!
