Just been looking at the Barcelona case, funny how the same names pop up. Then you get to wonder is there a rinse and repeat that's happened in the EPL.

UAE now resorting to political threats after Burnham backtracked on his defence of them.

Remarkable implosion from Croatia anyway, even given the fact it’s a strange semi-closed-doors atmosphere.
San Marino and Andorra can put up more of a fight than this (though, admittedly, not trying to attack).

Yes, what a fool that Tuchel is, picking a team that only won 7-0.

Unknown injury, expected to be out for around 115… charges. Return to action likely following conclusion of appeal, perhaps in a Real Madrid shirt, or alternatively in a local derby with Bury or Macclesfield.

Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 26/27
I think i'm calling it a day. Not enjoyed football for a while and the City thing....well it makes a mockery of the last 17 / 18 years and it just carries it on further into this season. I'm not sure that anywhere else is there a system in place where under appeal you're basically treated as innocent even though you've been found guilty.
Time for me to find a new hobby or two, all the best guys. I'll probably watch the Liverpool v City match just out of curiosity and then thats it.

How do you think forest made it out of division 3 back in 07/08 season. The biggest clubs always attract the biggest talent regardless of what's going on behind the scenesitslikebrandnew wrote:I think i'm calling it a day. Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 26/27
How we made it out in 07/08? As I remember, a couple of other teams imploded on the run-in so we sleepwalked to promotion, avoiding another inevitable play-off debacle, even though we had Calderwood as manager.
Agree the rest of this season or until the whole thing’s resolved is going to be a tough watch, especially in the case of any title race involving City. (Who, incidentally, weren’t one of the “biggest clubs” before all the Abu Derby money arrived, which is the entire point. They were sleeping giants who hadn’t consumed any caffeine since the early 80s.)

The word Giants is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that last sentence forestfan!
In the days before football was invented in 1992, the big five were United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton. Chelsea were in the next tier down with the likes of Leeds and Villa; I'm not sure what tier City was in then tbh but being a giant wasn't in the general narrative as far as I can recall! Robinho is still livid to this day that there is actually more than one Manchester club which he only discovered once he had arrived!

The term “sleeping giant” is always relative, they certainly were that when they were in League One or equivalent… they obviously weren’t a top five club before the takeover, maybe just about top ten based on support but a lot lower on achievement from ‘80s-‘00s. Probably in the Leeds/Newcastle/Villa tier, broadly. And Chelsea, too, before their lottery win.

Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 26/27
Villa’s greatest years were pre-war though, on that metric we could also throw in Wolves, Huddersfield, Portsmouth, Sunderland, even Preston… (not saying any of those belong in the Villa tier now, of course!)
History and tradition counts for a lot in terms of defining a big club, you can’t create or destroy one overnight, but equally things shift over time. What’s City’s natural status now if you strip them of their league status and assets? Probably still substantially more than it was in 2008, due to their overseas following built up over the past couple of decades. Even if you plonked them in National North and asked them to find their way back.

City always had potential to be one of the big teams and getting a new staduim at the right moment was a thing for them but for me were in the next group outside the ones the billfella and me name .forestfan wrote: 06 Oct 2026, 19:22 Villa’s greatest years were pre-war though, on that metric we could also throw in Wolves, Huddersfield, Portsmouth, Sunderland, even Preston… (not saying any of those belong in the Villa tier now, of course!)

I have never really counted any of those you mentioned as big teams i would put Leeds and Newcastle above those and probably Forest because of Brian Clough . Preston and Huddersfield have not won the league for over 100 years now and probably never will again unless they do a leicester . .
Villa have won the league and the european cup in the eighties . Spurs for me have always been a good cup team .

Re: The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 26/27
Yeah, Clough lifted us up a few levels but we’ve still been out of the top flight for the majority of the time since his reign ended. I’d say realistically we’re in the third tier of clubs with, say, Wolves, Leicester, Palace, Sunderland, West Ham (though they’d probably put themselves higher) etc. The sort of clubs who can pull in 30k crowds and expect to be somewhere between fighting for Europe and the upper reaches of the Championship. Though very good or bad management can take then out of that range.

Pre-war? They won the European Cup in 1982. That's not even pre-Falklands War.

I mean in terms of sustained success. That and the title that preceded it was as much of a one-off as ours. They were in the second division within five years.Pirlo's Beard wrote: 06 Oct 2026, 20:23Pre-war? They won the European Cup in 1982. That's not even pre-Falklands War.![]()
