Feeling wired at night and tired during the day – could there be something I'm missing?

Post by spoki »

For quite a while now, I've had the strange feeling that my body never fully switches into "rest mode" at night. I do sleep, but it rarely feels restorative. I often wake up several times without any obvious reason and in the morning I feel almost the same as when I went to bed. By the afternoon my energy usually drops significantly, and I find myself relying on coffee much more than I used to.
I've had blood work done and discussed it with my doctor, but according to the tests everything looks perfectly fine. On paper I seem healthy, yet my day-to-day experience tells a different story, which has left me searching for possible explanations outside the usual recommendations.
Over the last few weeks I started reading about the relationship between hydration, cellular function, and the nervous system. Some people suggest that the way water behaves inside the body could potentially influence recovery processes, stress resilience, and even sleep quality.
While researching these topics, I stumbled across information about Somavedic and similar technologies that focus on supporting the body's environment rather than targeting symptoms directly. I realize these ideas are still considered unconventional, but I find the experiences shared by some users interesting enough to learn more.
Has anyone experimented with structured water concepts, environmental wellness devices, or related methods?

No need for any flash systems or products. Just drink water. Always helps.

Not too near bedtime as you'll be getting up for other reasons...

Having caffeine in the afternoon may be part of the issue. Go caffeine-free from midday for a few weeks and see how it goes.

Also, try no calories 3 hours before sleep and see how that goes too.

And then there's the usual things like no screens an hour before sleep and not having your phone in the bedroom, etc.

Agree with Rob about trying no caffeine after midday.

I go for a 20 to 30 minute walk every night before bedtime as well. The fresh air gets me off to sleep straight away, whether I'm home or in a hotel somewhere. I travel a lot so it helps to have a routine that tells my body its time for bed, even if its 3pm or 4am UK time.

some combination of healthy eating, plenty of water, exercise and avoiding too many stimulants (caffeine, alcohol, nicotine) before bed feels more likely to be a better option than structured water concepts or environmental wellness devices, albeit I've got no clue about what either of those things might be :-)

or if you're knackered all day and wide awake at night you could just move to Australia :-)

The World Cup’s nearly over, that will let us all adjust our internal clocks back to BST…

Definitely lay off the caffeine in the afternoon and find a way to get through. Try to avoid daytime napping too if that's ever a bad habit you slip into.

I've always been a terrible sleeper..I've been taking Magnesium Glycinate supplements recently. Could be a placebo effect but I have noticed some improvement around additional Deep and/or REM sleep according to my Garmin.

Following on from the above, I would recommend a lifestyle tracker. It could be that the stats aren't as bad as you think, or you know when to compensate for a particularly bad night. This is from a Venu 3.

Early morning walking could help.

it might sound counter-intuitive, but after a health crisis 14 months ago, I restarted morning walking (something I used to do a lot when I was younger), commencing at 5am in May 2025 and through periodic increments it became 4am by January 2026. I now start every day by getting up early and setting off out immediately (out around 03.40, walking 6 miles to start the day). Even when I'm travelling, I plan walks so that I can maintain the routine.

This morning was my 400th consecutive day of walking 11-miles or more every day and I feel better than I have for years.

One thing's for sure, sleeping at night isn't generally a problem.
