Announcement didn’t materialise then?

How difficult is to post a short message on socials? It’s as if all of the website/app hits make them advertising revenue.

It is all unprofessional on one hand as there's been practically no communication other one or two tweets via replies from DTCustomer Services, and even that info was false.

On the other, the test site was legit imo, it's now password protected, so it was a genuine test site not some rouge attempt to get as many emails/passwords as possible otherwise it'd still be open, the domain I checked just linked backed to dreamteamfc as well

So it just seems to be since genius pulled out, they've been working with another supplier behind the scenes at short notice to get a game on but obviously they haven't been able to do it in time. Which means it's either going to be delayed - maybe from the 2nd match week or even from the knockout stages only, or it's going to be scrapped. The test site did look like it wasn't far off being complete though.

I prefer it to go live on Thursday evening - then a small handful of us can play for the 60K 1st prize :D

Not sure they 'pulled out' as such
In TFF land it certainly seemed like Genius were ready to go but they somehow didn't get the contract and were more 'kicked off'. Can't see how that would make them pull out of this one (unless they had to fold??).

I read it that Genius might have been getting out of the business of doing these games, but I'm just speculating. Telegraph were very clear that there was no bad blood between them and Genius. There's also the possibility that the price of mining data from Opta, etc, has become prohibitive - again, pure speculation on my part from bits and pieces I have read.

All players now have values, test site went up again a bit earlier, they are still working on it, so looks like it’s a race against time 🤞🏻🙏🏻

I was on the webdev test site earlier and managed to pick a full team; everything seemed in working order. I'd be surprised if they didn't see it through now, but then again look at us all: quivering junkies, looking for our next fix, not thinking straight.

Either way one of the stranger chapters in SDT existence.

If it is going ahead from midnight, then tbf to them, they must have been putting in some effort to get a game on at all considering they seem to have been left in the lurch at the 11th hour by the previous supplier, or couldn't use genius for whatever unknown reason.

Giving them the redemption arc? May as well, it's more appealing than all the toxic frustration and twitter harassment.

Happy enough with the fifa game and fanteam myself though always prefer this, I think the people on twitter who are really upset are the people who organised mini leagues with prize money assuming it would go ahead.

Wow they're still scamming one day before the deadline. People must still be falling for it or they would have stopped by now.

Interesting that now if you google dreamteam world cup the first site that shows up is that so called scamming site that's been linked on here that's password protected.

just spoke to someone at the sun. they say that site was a real test site but they are not running the game for the world cup due to circumstances beyond their control.

are you doing a world cup dreamteam ?
You – 9:48 AM

We’re really sorry, but due to circumstances beyond our control we’ve made the call to not launch this year’s Dream Team World Cup Game. We know you expect the absolute best from us and we didn’t want to deliver anything less.

But don't hang up your boots just yet. We’re redirecting every single bit of our energy into perfecting the main season game. We’re going all out to make sure the Premier League return in August is our best ever.

Cheers for sticking with us. We’re fully committed to delivering a world-class experience for the new season. Get ready – it's going to be a belter!
Will – 9:49 AM

whats this site ? I REMOVED THE LINK JUST IN CASE ANYONE HERE HAS A PROBLEM
You – 9:50 AM

That was going to be the link but it has been decided that the game isn't going ahead.

And they obviously knew that it was highly unlikely over a week ago.

All they had to do was put out a short message stating there was a chance the game wouldn’t happen but they were doing all they could to get one launched. Instead they chose to offer zero information and even lies when they were contacted.

To treat your customer base with such contempt is pretty poor.

Seems 50/50 to me as to whether they'll be a seasonal game for 26/27.

You'd have thought the likes of dreamteam, the mirror when it was about with youthemanger, telegraph etc, would get bigger and bigger as each year passes by, but the prize money has either shrunk or the game has gone completely in YTM case. Seems to me they don't think it's worth it anymore, might have been when it was paid entry and the game paid for itself, but since it became free they've been running it at a cost. FPL is obviously still massively popular but that has a global reach and the prizes are bare minimal, a happy meal and couple of milk tokens to the winner, or something like that.

Maybe the only way they can revitalise the game is to bring back paid entries - the cost of that would mean same names filling up the leaderboards, people using brothers, mothers, sisters, fathers, childrens, next door neighbours account to get around any limits etc, but it'd better than no game at all.

I think you're all being a bit harsh on them. They only have 4 years to make a world cup game.
