I heard a new line on this, which is either crazy or true.forestfan wrote: 28 Apr 2026, 18:42Well, that’s OK if they do what they said on the tin… but maybe it’s a formula for finding success in the lower rounds rather than the middle ones. I think day 2 has quite a low success rate anyway as teams (and no doubt the analysts) take a swing on physical traits and high ceilings, whereas workhorses and solid contributors are often found on day 3 as well as the occasional unexpected star.blahblah wrote: 28 Apr 2026, 18:36 I heard an interesting line about the Niners picks... Basically Shanahan has very strict prerequisites which means the Consensus picks aren't eligible. You'll know better than me about things like WRs that can and will block etc, but I guess it gives the identity etc.
Obviously if you don’t fancy the consensus next off the board at a position then you don’t take him, but it should then be BPA or trade down and probably still get the under-the-radar player you had your eye on anyway.
There are so many apples that don't fall far from the Shanahan tree that his Consensus maybe the Consensus for a whack of others. The point being that his apples/spawns/disciples want the same (Offensive?) players that he does. Hence he didn't want to trade below wherever he got the WR "reach" as he thought he'd go to the one behind where he picked him.
