It's about what Sky etc and the sponsors pay. If LIV takes off that will drop for the traditional series and be their downfall.

Indeed to Sky having the power, just as with the World/European Super League in football, although the rise of the interweb thing opens the door for Amazon, YouTube, Netflix (could be an interesting player).

But is golf just a nice to have with football, or can it generate enough viewers for one or two of the above to lead with it?

Golf obviously has its dedicated followers but guess the amount of people who really care about it beyond the majors and Ryder Cup is fairly small. And if those big events aren’t free to air the ability to attract new fans reduces substantially, it’s similar to the total paywalling of live cricket that we had for 15 years or so. Though I guess those who play golf will always be a tappable market?

Nowadays I only pay any attention to the Masters; and that could be some form of Spring starting ritual with Paris-Roubaux (and the National in by-gone days).
