I forgot Malik was in the Mercury movie.

As it happens, I was in the Swiss town of Montreux in early September. Freddie is a huge deal there, I think because he had a studio in the town. They even have this life-size statue of him set against the beautiful backdrop of Lake Geneva. It seems that every September they hold four days of celebrations for his birthday - concerts, exhibitions, entertainment, cover bands, the lot, all free... it really was quite the (unexpected) experience.

Is that in the Casino where Frank Zappa and the Mothers were playing when 'some stupid with a flare gun' burned it to the ground?

Went to Montreux and was surprised by that statue. I knew they have a big jazz festival (which has big 'non jazz' names playing) but didn't know the Queen connection.

I don't know. Where the studio was is close by or inside the Casino (only ever walked past it), but I didn't know anything about that...

It’s the story behind Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple.

Eddington 2/10

What a weird and godawful film, shame as I like Phoenix and Stone. Not quite sure how I didn’t turn it off, I got close several times, but kept hoping it would improve.

It’s been a real roller coaster week in movies for me Image

Ok, so if you wanna watch Carry on Vietnam, I have the film for you Image

The greatest beer run ever, 5/10

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10268488/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Based on true story, it’s an easy watch, but weak, with lots of poor acting , they even miscast one of my faves Bill Murray Image.

However, the fact it’s true buys it a few points, and it gave me the occasional smile, so not displeased I gave it a watch.

Ps. The reason I’m watching so many films is because ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’ is on TV, which I can’t bear so I’m now watching films in one room while my girls watch that nonsense in another for the foreseeable Image

One of the best films I've seen recent is The Penguin Lessons (Steve Coogan) - good for most ages too.

Ballad of Wallis Island was good too.

Agreed on The Penguin Lessons, Coogan is brilliant in most stuff he does [especially The Reckoning as Jimmy Saville]

Another great feelgood movie is Nyad (2023) IMDB 7.1 Annette Bening and Jodie Foster are excellent.

i'll give Ballad of Wallis Island a watch looks good [IMDB 7.4]

He wasn't especially convinving as a Psychiatrist in Nuremberg, either... although it is a decent enough picture, overall.

He's just not very convinving, period.
What's "convinving"?

Weapons 6/10

A decent enough movie, promised a bit more than it delivered in the end.

Good Fortune 6/10

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27543578/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

A bit basic, and a bit preachy, but an easy watch with a watchable cast.
They are not wrong though, no one should haven’t work 2 or even 3 jobs just to survive Image

Might not be your thing but it is very good. Beautifully shot too.
I've not watched it yet, and it's probably not my sort of thing, but I will as I kinda like Kermode's take on it though.

I thought it was a popular studio, rather than Freddie having built it.

Wasn’t sure about this, 6/10 from me.

First half of the movie is pretty slow, and the two main perpetrators were a bit annoying…second half was better, and it goes a bit mental Image

Three more sixes, I’m stuck in a rut

The Smashing Machine
-> Decent enough true story

Song Sung Blue
-> Decent enough true story x2, just feel they could have covered more of Neil Diamonds repertoire

Dead of Winter
-> Watchable Minnesotan (love that accent) thriller

Saw The Bride today. Wish I hadn't. Wretched picture.

The only good thing was the closing credits, over which played a rendition of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsPdVsI ... rt_radio=1

Saw one battle after another yesterday
Enjoyed it but suspected it would get bad reviews. Quite surprised to find out now that it was pretty highly rated.
Probably a 7/10 for me

One battle after another 8/10
I enjoyed it more than I expected, having only selected on a quiet Saturday evening due to the star rating. Mrs O scored it a 7, but was engaged all the way through.
