Re: Great TV Series
Episode 2 series 2 of The Last of Us was the best thing I've seen in ages, and I only half watched series 1.
Also enjoying Mobland, and liked Landman a lot.

Re: Great TV Series
Thought HBO/Sky Atlantic’s ‘Task’ was really good - another probably one-off series from the maker of ‘Mare of Easttown’, set in the same area though without any character or plot overlap with that.

Agreed, one of the best shows I've watched in recent years.
I'll also give a shout out to Shogun over on Disney+, completely different to the Richard Chamberlain version

Very good in places but a tad too anti-men and throwing too many social/women's issues in to tick every box asap.Stena Bib wrote:Riot Women, best i have seen for a while. 8.6 IMDB

The Girlfriend is a good watch. Got Emma from the Bates Motel which is seriously underrated btw as an excellent series (watched it twice).

Yes, agree with that - it’s kind of like a detective equivalent of Slow Horses, conceptually! Only one series so far but more to come I think.Stena Bib wrote: 10 Nov 2025, 18:02 If you like Slow Horses, then Dept.Q is well worh watching [IMDB 8.2]

Great TV Series
We really enjoyed Dept Q as well. Loved Akram as a character.
I’m currently rewatching The Night Manager with the announcement of a second series arriving in January. Great cast (Hugh Laurie, Tom Hollander & Olivia Coleman all brilliant) and the best Le Carre adaptation since Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Smiley’s People in the late ‘70s, early ‘80s.
If you’ve never seen it, you really should give it a go.

Re: Great TV Series
Well, it’s 2025 now… but there’s a movie and a sequel series coming.
I don’t know how Steven Knight has time to write/produce what seems like every other British drama series that appears, and is now doing the next Bond film (whenever that materialises) as well…

Yeah, and there was This Town which I quite enjoyed but didn’t get a second series. SAS Rogue Heroes is him too, isn’t it?maxi123 wrote: 10 Nov 2025, 19:25A Thousand Blows on Disney+ in 2025forestfan wrote: 10 Nov 2025, 19:11 Well, it’s 2025 now… but there’s a movie and a sequel series coming.

Watching the last frontier at the moment. It’s a bit silly in places (without giving too much away I think the Alaskan winter nights would have claimed a few more victims) but it’s enjoyable with some good set pieces

Snap rewatching ahead of S2. Cracking series surprised it took so long for S2.Heimi Henderson wrote:We really enjoyed Dept Q as well. Loved Akram as a character.

Dept Q was good but way longer than it needed to be, common for subscription TV.
Really enjoyed latest series of The Diplomat. First two were good too.
Also plan to watch TNM and will look at The Girlfriend after.

Re: Great TV Series
Hadn’t realised The Diplomat S3 was out yet, as not long since I watched S2… one to add to my long watchlist, probably towards the top given the cliffhanger at the end of the previous series!hancockjr wrote: 11 Nov 2025, 15:55 Dept Q was good but way longer than it needed to be, common for subscription TV.

Had to look back at how long Dept. Q was and it was 9 episodes, which is maybe a bit longer than the recent trend but at one time shows tended to run well into double figure and even 20+ episode series. British quality dramas, especially BBC, tend to do 6 episode series these days but that’s 6 full hours, whereas streaming and advertising-funded services tend to run shorter in terms of actual episode length.

Re: Great TV Series
Am referring to length in relation to what is in it. I''ll happily watch 20 episodes if the complexity is there, but I felt Dept Q was a 6 parter (at most) "stretched" over 9, like a double album that should have been a single album (i.e. all of them, according to some people!).

I agree. We got bored towards the end but then I’m sort of done with detective series even though this had quirks.hancockjr wrote:Am referring to length in relation to what is in it. Really enjoying the new English spoken Squid Game S2 The Challenge. Done first 3 episodes out of 9. Much more focus on the games.

Re: Great TV Series
Can't remember enough of Stranger Things in order to be ready for S5, so Mrs J and I have decided to start again from S1, which is fine as we often struggle to agree on what to watch and we both liked that...so that will keep us busy for a while!
Apart from that, Im watching Pluribus which is decent, but only comes out weekly
...https://www.imdb.com/title/tt22202452/? ... nd_title_5
...so Im also starting an older series, For All Mankind whichI saw recommended somewhere

Re: Great TV Series
Also just started watching Pluribus ( done 1 1/2 episodes) and it’s got Vince Gilligan all over it! Nice to see Rhea Seehorn (ala BCS) in a lead role.
Will probably watch ST but no hurry tbh I sort of feel it could’ve finished by now. The kids now being adults will be interesting to see how that works probably less annoying
