You might have heard this mentioned in recent years (especially given one infamous football ground incident last year!)

The challenge is this… try to avoid hearing ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham, between 1st December and midnight on Christmas Eve. If you hear any part of the song and recognise it, you’ve been ‘Whammed’ and are out (and can then safely tune into your favourite Christmas radio station/put your Christmas playlist on repeat!)

- Only the original version counts - remixes, cover versions etc. are safe territory.
- Deliberate ‘Whamming’ of others (e.g. via Rickroll-style links) is banned.

Of course, variations on the game exist, with ‘Mariahpocalypse’ being the most common alternative, but you could come up with infinitely many others such as Banned Aid, Pogue Alone, You’ve Been Slade, or John and Yoko Oh No. So anyone taking on the challenge, post your successes or failures!

I think a number of countries have their own equivalents!

Anyway, Wham already up to number 8 in the charts this year, with Mariah close behind at 10 and a bunch of other Christmas songs filling the lower end of the top 40. It is still November, for anyone who hadn’t noticed
