Re: Parkrun
Haven't posted in the thread for a while, but still going - 75+ Park Runs now, PB remains the same. DIdn't go one from 2020-2022, but back in the swing now.
Also completed my first half marathon in Cambridge at the weekend - a great experience - raising money for regional MIND charity

Haven't run those sort of distances in a while (nearly 7 years since I did officially!). Started to train for a half but the pandemic got in the way and the training hurt too much.
I'm just getting back in the swing - I had plantar fasciitis in my left foot from May last year and just as it was nearly gone I got it bad in my right foot but that is getting better so the thoughts of doing a half are creeping back in.
Still avoiding the evils of parkrun since they banned me and my dog from running in a sensible/healthy/safe way

Re: Parkrun
Thanks, my first half - 2hr 17 mins, which is what i'd planned. Was a great atmosphere.
Will keep it up now i reckon - touch wood, the persistant knee injury has now moved one - possibly with a Park Run this weekend.

Re: Parkrun
Well done on your first HM, and that's a decent time too!
I'm working my back into running. Having retired (yes, I am that old), I took running up 5 years ago via C25k... and loved it, worked up to HM distance, ran three HM races and many 10k races. That went on for about 3 years and then the wheels came off - I got injured (knee) and used that as an excuse to put running on the back burner. So had to start again from scratch in January.
Have now competed C25k again (deliberately took it very steady to avoid re-injury) and this week have managed my first 5k runs. Am signed up for some 10k races beginning in June and - so long as the knee continues to hold up - will be signing up for a HM in October.
Parkruns have never really appealed that much to me, mainly because my preferred distances are a bit longer. My ideal schedule is a 10k or longer at the weekend, with a couple of 7k or thereabouts training runs in the week. But I think it would be a great discipline this year for me to do Parkruns more regularly - specifically to work on pace on those shorter Saturday runs. Plus of course right now, as I work my way back into the whole running thing, I'm some way off from running that sort of schedule I described above.
So I plan to run another park run very soon - and when I do I'll post my (absurdly slow) time on here, I promise!
Edit: Just found my time from the one and only time I did a parkrun - in Feb 2019, it was the Reading Parkrun, and my time was 33m 14s (my PB over a 5k distance is one second under 30 mins). Right now I'd be a long way off that sort of pace, of course.

Re: Parkrun
I am the reverse of you on distances. Do you do strength training - resistance band for injury prevention?
I ramped up to socially distanced 10k - rest - 5k - rest in lockdown. When parkrun resumed I did 2 midweek 10ks. The longer runs boosted my parkrun pace and stamina. That was good until last June when I had 3rd knee injury. Rejoined gym, 7.5k row weekly. 2 steroid injections, NHS physio gave me resistance bands with exercises and said 2 x 2.5k runs per week, gradual increase if pain free. The exercises feel effortless, after the first few sessions I could feel blood flow round both knees. Currently on 2 x 5k runs per week with knee strap, 7.5k row, 2 x band exercises. Skip midweek run every 4th week. Next step midweek run up to 6.5k. I may stick at that until next spring and if ok will add extra run, build up to 8k.

Re: Parkrun
Don't forget you can build Parkrun into longer runs if you fancy - last weekend I did the 30 min pacing job as the start of a 35km long training run, two birds with one stone!

Re: Parkrun
Not strictly parkrun, but relevant to running anyway. I now need to up my running to build for next year as at the weekend I competed in a European triathlon age group qualifier at Castle Howard. On arrival I discovered the bike leg had been cancelled due to dangerous road conditions! With bike being my strongest discipline I was gutted and didn't expect to qualify in what was now an aquathlon.
However I surprised myself with a solid (for me) swim leg and 800 uphill run to transition. Run leg started strong and I managed to pass lots of others on a boggy and hilly cross country run leg. I crossed the line strongly.
They had announced at the start that British triathlon would decide in a few days if it would still count for qualification purposes. They decided it did and I found I had secured the first automatic qualification slot in the 60-64 age group so its 2024 European Age group championships for me!

Re: Parkrun
Excellent stuff NB. I'm no swimmer so it would have to be biathlon (not the skiing one!) for me.
My aims are slightly lower but I am extending my distances slowly with the aim of a September half-marathon (first since 2016). Up to 15k yesterday, a fair bit of it off-road (the dog likes that!) A good few hills on the roads too but most of them are on the half marathon route so I have to practice for that!

Duathlon is run bike run Murf, so maybe?
Good luck with half marathon training. I haven't run half marathon for a good few years now.
I have signed up for a 10km next month so should be good focus for next month of training.

How far do you run in your triathlon? I know a couple of (occasional) Ironman runners and they do the full marathon (after everything else). Madness.Neath boy wrote: 26 Jul 2023, 14:49 Duathlon is run bike run Murf, so maybe?

I managed a sub 1-hour 10k the other week so I'm not so bad, PB is about 51:30 but reckon I could have cracked 50 on a flat course. Only 7 or 8 years ago but that makes a big difference. Can't imagine how slow I'll be by the time I am in your age category NB!
My decrepit body is only now able to build up to a half marathon (with nothing else!) after a year and a half of pilates. Have previously given up building up distances as it hurt too much afterwards. Plantar fasciitis didn't help but I am 95% over that (touch wood). If I was a swimmer than I think triathlon wouldn't be so bad as you don't push the same muscles/joints continuously for the duration. One third of each must be better than the whole while doing one??

Re: Parkrun
Yesterday I was marshalling, had a 10k race today so was taking it easy.
Next weekend is my 200th parkrun & 50th volunteering stint. Might give it a go!

Re: Parkrun
Did my 200th parkrun, in the dim and distant past, on a significant birthday.

Re: Parkrun
Took Darbyjunior to flat as a pancake Fleetwood today to see if he could PB but surprisingly he was down on his best of 19.15 set at hilly Preston.
24.59 for me. Was trying to run steady 5s, went off a bit too quickly, felt myself losing it on the last one, but managed to dredge up something in the finish to just get it back.
