Re: Books Read 2014
Just finished Altered Carbon. thanks again for the suggestion and I will start the second of the series tonight. Was very pleased to see a movie is in the works but with what I can find so far it doesn't look promising.

Re: Books Read 2014
Hi, am looking for advice. I've read most of Haran Coben, Lee Child, John Grisham and Michael Crichton. Which other authors are similar that I might enjoy? Ideally some mystery in there but definitely no supernatural or sci fi.
was thinking maybe Patricia Cornwell or Dean Koontz?

Re: Books Read 2014
Some good tips were in here, any idea what is most similar to the ones I mentioned? Note I should have added Michael Connelly to my "have read" list.Beerfuelledman wrote:I think you're in my vein of characters here Love Reacher and Myron & Win. Don't neglect Cobens standalones like "Tell no one" & "Gone for good". For a little injection of Dan Brown into your story Scott Mariani's Ben Hope is good. If you're still hankering for Reacherfodder - look at David Baldacci John Puller books. Also perhaps his Will Robie series. Matt Hilton's Joe Hunter also in the Reacher vein. With Robie moving toward the Assassins; Tom Woods Victor novels are superb, as are Derek Haas Columbus books and Mark Greaneys Courtland Gentry stories. For something a little different Brett Battles does a good line with Jonathan Quinn - a "cleaner" without being euphemistic. Back to crime heros my sister recently got me into Stephen J Cannells (he of 80's cheese lol) Shane Scully books and they are really very good. Lastly you've probably sampled Michael Connellys works, particularly Harry Bosch so I'll mention Simon Kernicks books before ending. Must have a look to Richard Morgan myself
Incidentally my best ones have both been Harlan Coben : No Second Chance and The Woods.

Re: Books Read 2014
I haven't read those authors, so cannot speak from experience, but the following link suggests trying Jonathan Kellerman and John Sandford http://www.literature-map.com/harlan+coben.html

Re: Books Read 2014
I remember a lot of love for Richard Morgan's 'Altered Carbon' on this thread (great book).
For anyone who's interested it has been made in to a TV series, now available on Netflix.
Going to check it out over the weekend.

Just finished the first episode. I think they have stayed rather true to the books and am looking forward to where it heads.hornet wrote: 08 Feb 2018, 09:37 I remember a lot of love for Richard Morgan's 'Altered Carbon' on this thread (great book).

Re: Books Read 2014
From the "mystery" genre I favour (Lee Child, Harlen Coben, Michael Connolly) above I'd add Jane Harper: Aussie based, more sedate/slow but very fine books. The Dry was the first but I actually liked the second one (Force of Nature) better, and though it's the same main character they don't need to be read in order. Suitable for older children too.

The latter, in particular, was a humbling psychological lesson.

Crikey. The start of the year is miserable enough without that.SirMattBugsby wrote:Started the year with Kafka and Dostoevsky .
I started Kafka once. I won't be going back.
Totally changing genre....
Has anyone read any Mo Hayder? I haven't. Just that I found out recently the bizarre fact that she was one of the blonde, bimbo secretaries in Are You Being Served!!! Slight change of career. Also moved to the Far East. Sadly died early a few years ago. Eventful, short life.
