what does a grinder mean to you in poker ?

Post by buu1333 »

been looking online and grinder can mean different things in poker, well people are saying different things . How do you think a grinder plays? People say its playing a lot of tables. Really, there were once two of them on my table next to each other playing about 15 tournaments at same time, they did nothing they were rocks. until eventually they were small bling big blind both went all in with 55 and qq that not grinding too me. that a rock and its very boring to me waiting for a hand to push big with.

and the player I am a fan of is Michael Mizrachi at pca 10 8-)

I think Michael Mizrachi is called the grinder because he grinds people down :D

But generally I think a grinder in poker is someone who multi tables at low stakes? And youre right they must play like rocks because they are playing so many tournaments at once but I don't see how they can make decent money playing like that because I find this strategy is not very successful? Not to mention boring!

Robert Mizrachi had a good time at PCA 10 :)

Being a Grinder is about winning steady and small. Consistent profits over the big score. Its really more of a cash game thing than tournaments.

Jobs are boring. Nobody grinds for fun, they do it to make a living.

Agree with Karrde - in theory a grinder isn't going to give up his chips easily , start pushing all-in on trash all the time. He's there for the long haul. Guess that's why multi-tablers fall into that category as they have to rely on probabilities rather than table presence or huge psychological ploys...survival is the game. Not sure if that's the way Mizrachi plays, but that's what I think it means...

how would you say you play in poker tournaments or most people on here ?

most people thinks about the money rather then the game . I am never going to grind online for a job seems very depressing just watching cards on computer screen all day, and worst of all you are not guarantee the money.

when I play poker I expect to lose the money it gone and just focus and the game . I don't like cash games tournaments for me. and I played a lot of hands for cheap that what I thought a grinder was, but I understand where I was at a lot of the times, and my position. I could control my chips well in the tournament. even when played quite a lot of hands

Its very hard to make a living from tournaments. The swings are too big. Unless youre sponsored then you make cash games your bread and butter.

I think you have to ask yourself a question. "What am I playing poker for?" If its for fun, then play whatever you enjoy playing. If its to make money then you dont have that luxury.

Regarding final tables, again there is a question. Are you going all out to win it? Are you hoping to ladder? If the difference between 9th and 6th is big enough that youre prepared to damage your chances of winning then fair enough. There are times where most people playing above their level are happy to do that and there is no shame in it. If youre content to finish 8th in a good attempt to maximise the chances of coming first then you do it and do it properly.

Pick a strategy and commit to it.

I play for fun/hobby but also want to win it. my strategy seem to be very tight and aggressive with good hands from now on in tournaments at final table. unless someone says other wise with good reason. that why I started playing 500 cap easer to get to final table and get experiences. can play bigger tournaments

In that case then you need to be aggressive on the final table. That doesnt mean go looney. Think of your chips as soldiers going into battle. Dont be afraid to commit them, they have their job to do... but dont send them into a slaughter for the sake of it. You have to get your chips in to battle though... or you just wont win the war

Youre going to run into monsters sometimes, thats life and you will lose sometimes. Just take comfort from the fact that you will come out ahead in the long run. Play position properly of course and you minimise that risk.

A Poker Grinder is simply a player who plays a low-risk game. Typically they achieve small but frequent wins. The term is also often to used to describe people who play poker to make a living; players who brave “the daily grind”. Grinding is the opposite of the “high risk, high reward” betting mentality.

I've changed since I post this and I agree with nearly all of you what grinding means and now prefer cash games .
