Re: FPL pre-season friendlies 2022/23
Thanks Fred, form what I saw of the Spurs Roma game, Roma might have won but contrary to what the press said I thought Spurs were all over Roma, maybe just the highlights showed that other than that Kane missing a sitter.

i watch the game Spurs were flat for the first 10 minutes and if it wasnt for some great defending spurs would have scored, the corner scored when dey were now getting some momentum also

Is it me, or are far too many players having a strong preseason that yells pick me?

Re: FPL pre-season friendlies 2022/23
3 Aaronson assists and looking a lively winger. Untested in Premiership and if Rodrigo has changed his form after that hattrick unlikely and Bamford resuming his scoring now back maybe or Aaronson makes the difference to them both. Or maybe the opposition weren't up to much.

Re: FPL pre-season friendlies 2022/23
So in terms of preseason goals, I think we have:
7 - Jesus
6- Nketiah
5 - Kane, Darwin, Zaha, Rodrigo
4 - mbeuno, Mitrovic, Almiron
3 - Saka, Bailey, Trossard, Bamford, Salah, Sancho, Martial, Neto, Podence
A few under the radar.

July 2nd - Arsenal 5 Ipswich 1 - Highlights
July 8th - NΓΌrnberg 3 Arsenal 5 - Highlights
July 16th - Arsenal 2 Everton 0 - Highlights
July 20th - Orlando City 1 Arsenal 3 - Highlights
July 23rd - Arsenal 4 Chelsea 0 - Highlights
July 27th - Arsenal 1 Brentford 2
July 30th - Arsenal 6 Sevilla 0 - Highlights
Goals: Jesus (7), Nketiah (6), Saka (4), Lokonga (2), Balogun (1), Elneny (1), Martinelli (1), Nelson (1), Γdegaard (1)
Gabriel Jesus (Β£8.0m FWD) rounded off an impressive pre-season campaign with a hat-trick in Arsenal's 6-0 thrashing of Sevilla, taking his tally of pre-season goals to seven in five appearances. 68% of FPL managers will be hoping he carries this form into the league when the season begins on Friday, while the other 32% will be hoping he reverts to the Man City version who couldn't finish his dinner. With seeming guaranteed-starter status in one of the league's better sides, he certainly has the potential to be one of the bargains of the season.
Bukayo Saka (Β£8.0m MID) appears to have retained penalty-taking duties, as he took a penalty against Sevilla with both Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli (Β£6.0m MID) on the pitch. Martinelli looks a safe bet to start against Palace with Emile Smith Rowe (Β£6.0m MID) having missed most of pre-season with an injury. Ben White (Β£4.5m DEF) started two of the final three friendlies at right-back with Takehiro Tomiyasu (Β£4.5m DEF) out injured. William Saliba (Β£4.5m DEF) partnered Gabriel (Β£5.0m DEF) in central defence in those games. Oleksandr Zinchenko (Β£5.0m DEF) joined in time to feature in two of the final three friendlies, and seems set to start the season at left-back with Kieran Tierney (Β£5.0m DEF) out injured. Also injured is new signing FΓ‘bio Vieira (Β£6.0m MID) who played no part in pre-season.

Goals: Bailey (3), Archer (2), Chambers (1), Diego Carlos (1), Douglas Luiz (1), Ings (1), Watkins (1)
Leon Bailey (Β£5.0m MID) has emerged as a potential bargain midfield pick with three goals in pre-season having started four out of five games. Young forward Cameron Archer (Β£4.5m FWD) also performed well, scoring a couple of goals. With Ollie Watkins (Β£7.5m FWD) and Danny Ings (Β£7.0m FWD) ahead of him in the pecking order he's unlikely to be a starter, but he should get some minutes off the bench. Having said that, the senior strikers haven't been tearing up trees in pre-season, with Watkins not scoring since the opening friendly and Ings' solitary goal a penalty.
One man who failed to find the net in pre-season despite starting four times was Philippe Coutinho (Β£7.0m MID). Despite not getting much of a mention here on FISO he's still a popular pick in FPL, currently sitting in 18.5% of teams. In the 2-2 draw with Man Utd he played behind a front two; against Brisbane Roar it looked like he was playing no.10 in a 4-2-3-1; while in the games against Leeds and Rennes he operated on the left of a front three, with Bailey on the right. Emiliano BuendΓa (Β£6.0m MID) made four substitute appearances in pre-season and doesn't seem to be in the frame to start. New signing Diego Carlos (Β£5.0m DEF) is a certain starter in defence, but there is some doubt over who his central defensive partner will be after Tyrone Mings (Β£4.5m DEF) was dropped for the final friendly. Lucas Digne (Β£5.0m DEF) will start at left-back and continue to troll his owners until the end of time.
July 15th - Bournemouth 2 Sheffield Wednesday 1 - Highlights
July 19th - Braga 2 Bournemouth 1 - Highlights
July 23rd - Bournemouth 0 Bristol City 1 - Highlights
July 30th - Bournemouth 1 Real Sociedad 2 - Highlights
Goals: Solanke (2), Cook (1), Stanislas (1)
Bournemouth look a bit undercooked going into the new season, with three defeats in pre-season and some fairly weak performances. There has been some bemusement on the Bournemouth forums at Scott Parker using a 3-4-2-1 formation in pre-season, when for the majority of last season's promotion campaign they played four at the back. Midfielder Jefferson Lerma (Β£5.0m MID) has been used out of position at centre-back a couple of times, although he did appear to be back in central midfield for the final friendly. Junior Stanislas (Β£5.0m MID) came off the bench on three occasions and scored in the final friendly. New signing Ryan Fredericks (Β£4.5m DEF) looks set to miss the start of the season with a calf problem. David Brooks (Β£5.5m MID) will be eased back in carefully after recovering from Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Bournemouth's squad looks short of genuine Premier League quality and will surely be a team to target once the season gets underway.
July 9th - Boreham Wood 0 Brentford 2 - Highlights
July 16th - VfB Stuttgart 2 Brentford 1 - Highlights
July 19th - Brentford 2 Strasbourg 2 - Highlights
July 23rd - VfL Wolfsburg 4 Brentford 0 - Highlights
July 26th - Brighton 0 Brentford 1 - Highlights
July 27th - Arsenal 1 Brentford 2
July 30th - Brentford 1 Real Betis 0 - Highlights
Goals: Mbeumo (4), Dasilva (1), Lewis-Potter (1), Toney (1), Trevitt (1), Wissa (1)
Bryan Mbeumo (Β£6.0m FWD) was the star of Brentford's pre-season with four goals, including a penalty against Boreham Wood when Ivan Toney (Β£7.0m FWD) wasn't playing. Thomas Frank appears to be sticking with the 4-3-3 formation Brentford used successfully towards the end of last season, which means Toney will be flanked in the wide forward positions by Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa (Β£5.5m MID). Base-price midfielder Josh Dasilva (Β£4.5m MID) featured regularly in pre-season but only started once. In defence it looks like Ben Mee (Β£4.5m DEF) will partner Pontus Jansson (Β£4.5m DEF), with Rico Henry (Β£4.5m DEF) and Aaron Hickey (Β£5.0m DEF) in the full-back positions. Hickey is a left-back by trade but has been playing at right-back in pre-season.
Much will depend on how Brentford cope without Christian Eriksen. His arrival in January boosted the form of a flagging team and inspired them to seven wins in their last eleven games to secure safety. His departure has left a creative vacuum which is unlikely to be filled by workmanlike midfielders such as Vitaly Janelt (Β£5.5m MID), Mathias Jensen (Β£5.0m MID), and Christian NΓΈrgaard (Β£5.5m MID).
July 9th - Brighton 0 Union Saint-Gilloise 0 - Highlights
July 16th - Estoril 1 Brighton 4 - Highlights
July 23rd - Reading 1 Brighton 2 - Highlights
July 26th - Brighton 0 Brentford 1 - Highlights
July 30th - Brighton 5 Espanyol 1 - Highlights
Goals: Trossard (3), Maupay (2), Dunk (1), GroΓ (1), March (1), Mitoma (1), Undav (1), Webster (1)
Leandro Trossard (Β£6.5m MID) scored a hat-trick in Brighton's final pre-season friendly, a 5-1 hammering of Espanyol. Brighton appeared to set up in a sort of 3-2-4-1 formation against Espanyol, with midfielder Enock Mwepu (Β£5.5m MID) in an advanced attacking midfield role alongside Pascal GroΓ (Β£5.5m MID). For the most part though, Graham Potter has tended to use the more familiar 3-5-2 formation in pre-season. Danny Welbeck (Β£6.5m FWD) started the most games (4) out of any of the Brighton forwards, although he failed to find the net. New signing Deniz Undav (Β£5.5m FWD) was used mostly as a substitute. Undav had a prolific season last year in the Belgian league, scoring 25 league goals for Union Saint-Gilloise, who Brighton played in their pre-season opener.
Marc Cucurella (Β£5.0m DEF) started twice in pre-season but was left out of the squad for the Espanyol friendly after submitting a transfer request on Friday. Brighton have already rejected one bid for the player from Man City and are adamant they won't sell him for less than Β£50m.
July 16th - Chelsea 2 Club AmΓ©rica 1 - Highlights
July 20th - Charlotte FC 1 Chelsea 1 (5-3 on penalties) - Highlights
July 23rd - Arsenal 4 Chelsea 0 - Highlights
July 29th - Udinese 1 Chelsea 3 - Highlights
July 30th - Udinese XI 0 Chelsea XI 2 - Highlights
Goals: Mount (2), KantΓ© (1), Loftus-Cheek (1), Pulisic (1), Sterling (1), Werner (1), Ziyech (1)
The most eye-catching result of Chelsea's pre-season was the 4-0 defeat to Arsenal, after which Thomas Tuchel questioned the commitment of his players. Chelsea started the game with a back four, but with his side 2-0 down at half-time, Tuchel switched to a back three for the second half. Things obviously didn't improve much, as they conceded a further two goals before full-time. Kalidou Koulibaly (Β£5.5m DEF) made his first appearance for Chelsea in that Arsenal match, coming on as a late substitute for Thiago Silva (Β£5.5m DEF). Koulibaly started the final friendly against Udinese in the more familiar back three system alongside Thiago Silva and CΓ©sar Azpilicueta (Β£5.0m DEF).
Raheem Sterling (Β£10.0m MID) scored a somewhat fortuitous goal in the Udinese game, which was his third appearance of pre-season and his second start. He seems likely to start alongside Mason Mount (Β£8.0m MID) in one of the "support striker" roles behind Kai Havertz (Β£8.0m FWD), although the match report from the Udinese game said Sterling was "operating at the centre of a fluid front three". Havertz failed to score in pre-season despite starting three out of four games. Michy Batshuayi featured in the opening three friendlies and even started the Charlotte game, despite currently not even being listed in FPL.

July 19th - Gillingham 2 Crystal Palace 3 - Highlights
July 19th - Manchester United 3 Crystal Palace 1 - Highlights
July 22nd - Crystal Palace 1 Leeds 1 - Highlights
July 23rd - QPR 0 Crystal Palace 3 - Highlights
July 30th - Crystal Palace 4 Montpellier 2 - Highlights
Goals: Zaha (5), Benteke (3), Plange (3), Eze (2), Mateta (2), Γdouard (2), Ayew (1), GuΓ©hi (1), O'Brien (1), Rak-Sakyi (1), Ward (1)
Palace split their squad in two for pre-season, sending one group off to Australia and Singapore for games against Liverpool, Man Utd, and Leeds, and keeping one group in England for games against domestic sides. This resulted in a packed schedule featuring no fewer than nine friendlies. Wilfried Zaha (Β£7.0m MID) was in good form, scoring five goals (two of which were penalties) across his five appearances. There was an even spread of goals among the forwards, with Christian Benteke (Β£5.5m FWD) scoring three times, and Odsonne Γdouard (Β£5.5m FWD) and Jean-Philippe Mateta (Β£5.5m FWD) both scoring twice. The difficulty in telling which of them will start is reflected in all three of them being identically-priced.
New midfield signing Cheick DoucourΓ© (Β£5.0m MID) started each of the last four domestic friendlies, which means we are unlikely to see former FPL hero Luka MilivojeviΔ (Β£4.5m MID) regain his place in midfield following Conor Gallagher's return to Chelsea. Eberechi Eze (Β£5.5m MID) and Jeffrey Schlupp (Β£5.0m MID) are likely to partner DoucourΓ© in midfield. Meanwhile, the defence has a familiar look to it, with the only real question being which of Nathaniel Clyne (Β£4.5m DEF) or Joel Ward (Β£4.5m DEF) will get the nod at right-back.
July 16th - Arsenal 2 Everton 0 - Highlights
July 20th - Minnesota United 4 Everton 0 - Highlights
July 24th - Blackpool 2 Everton 4 - Highlights
July 29th - Everton 3 Dynamo Kyiv 0 - Highlights
Goals: Alli (2), McNeil (2), Calvert-Lewin (1), Davies (1), Mykolenko (1)
Everton began pre-season with a couple of limp and embarrassing defeats, but recovered to record wins against Blackpool and Dynamo Kyiv. New signing Dwight McNeil (Β£5.5m MID) made an eye-catching cameo against Dynamo Kyiv, coming off the bench for the last half hour and scoring a brace. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Β£8.0m FWD) was on the scoresheet in that game too, and will carry much of the goalscoring burden this season after Richarlison was sold to Spurs. Dele Alli (Β£5.5m MID) scored a couple of goals against Blackpool but it would surely take a brave man or woman to put him anywhere near their FPL team.
Frank Lampard favoured a 3-4-3 formation in pre-season. Base-price defender Nathan Patterson (Β£4.0m DEF) started all four friendlies and looks set to start the season at right wing-back with Seamus Coleman (Β£4.5m DEF) out injured. Vitaliy Mykolenko (Β£4.5m DEF) should start at left wing-back despite the loan signing of RΓΊben Vinagre (Β£4.5m DEF) from Sporting. The Username reckons we could see McNeil on the right of the front three with Anthony Gordon (Β£5.5m MID) on the left, although we can't rule out starts for the likes of Alli and Demarai Gray (Β£5.5m MID), both of whom featured heavily in pre-season.
Unfortunately, the lad who scored the penalty against Dynamo Kyiv doesn't seem to be priced up in FPL.
July 16th - Nice 0 Fulham 2 (2-3 on penalties) - Highlights
July 17th - Benfica 5 Fulham 1 - Highlights
July 24th - Estoril 1 Fulham 3 - Highlights
July 31st - Fulham 1 Villarreal 1 - Highlights
Goals: MitroviΔ (4), Kebano (1), Palhinha (1), Wilson (1)
Most of the FPL interest in Fulham will likely focus on new signing Andreas Pereira (Β£4.5m MID), who currently sits in 24.7% of teams; and star forward Aleksandar MitroviΔ (Β£6.5m FWD), who will be keen to prove he can perform in the Premier League after his record-breaking 43-goal haul in the Championship last season. MitroviΔ has been in fine form in pre-season with four goals, including a brace against Estoril from a couple of woefully-defended corners, one of which was taken by Pereira. Elsewhere, Fulham suffered a heavy defeat to Benfica in Portugal, before drawing at home to Villarreal in their final friendly.
Defensive midfielder JoΓ£o Palhinha (Β£5.0m MID) has been signed from Sporting to add a bit of robustness to their midfield, although the fans seem to be worried about the lack of investment in a defence which is likely to feature many of the same players who regularly underperformed the last time Fulham were relegated: the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo (Β£4.5m DEF), Antonee Robinson (Β£4.5m DEF), and Tim Ream (Β£4.5m DEF). New signing Kevin Mbabu (Β£4.5m DEF) only played seven minutes in pre-season after his late-July signing from Wolfsburg, but that was still enough time for him to grab an assist for MitroviΔ's goal against Villarreal on Sunday.
July 2nd - Stoke 0 Leeds 1
July 7th - Blackpool 0 Leeds 4 - Highlights
July 14th - Brisbane Roar 1 Leeds 2 - Highlights
July 17th - Aston Villa 1 Leeds 0 - Highlights
July 22nd - Crystal Palace 1 Leeds 1 - Highlights
July 31st - Leeds 6 Cagliari 2 - Highlights
Goals: Rodrigo (5), Bamford (3), Koch (2), Firpo (1), Gelhardt (1), James (1), Joseph (1)
Our pre-season began with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke which was vital for getting minutes into the legs of Patrick Bamford (Β£7.5m FWD), who scored on his return from injury. Beyond that, our pre-season featured three low-scoring games in a tour of Australia sandwiched in between a couple of easy wins against Blackpool and Cagliari. The win against Cagliari was a nice morale-booster before the season begins, though I'm not too sure how stern a test was provided by our Serie B opponents. Rodrigo (Β£6.0m MID) scored a hat-trick to bring his pre-season goal tally to five, while Bamford grabbed a brace. Brenden Aaronson (Β£5.5m MID) registered three assists in that game and appears likely to operate as the no.10 in Jesse Marsch's 4-2-3-1 system, with fellow new signings Tyler Adams (Β£5.0m MID) and Marc Roca (Β£5.0m MID) stationed at the base of midfield.
Another of our new signings, the exciting Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra (Β£6.5m MID) could miss the first couple of games with a hamstring injury he picked up against Palace. Meanwhile, we have familar problems at left-back, with Junior Firpo (Β£4.5m DEF) both injured and useless at football. The club are actively pursuing a new left-back with Firpo likely to be out of action for another month. In the meantime, it's likely to be centre-back Pascal Struijk (Β£4.5m DEF) who fills in at left-back. I've always liked Struijk because (a) he's a much better defender than Firpo, and (b) he looks like a sexy pirate.

Goals: Barnes (3), Daka (3), Dewsbury-Hall (2), Vardy (2), Fofana (1), Iheanacho (1), Maddison (1), Wright (1)
Probably the biggest story from Leicester's pre-season are the rumours that Kasper Schmeichel (Β£5.0m GKP) may be on the verge of joining Nice. His likely replacement based on pre-season minutes would be Daniel Iversen. Unfortunately, Iversen is not currently listed in FPL. Only Schmeichel and Danny Ward (Β£4.0m GKP) are listed, and Ward has missed the entirety of pre-season with an injury he picked up on international duty with Wales. It's certainly a situation to monitor over the next few days, as Leicester have a couple of very attractive home fixtures before the transfer window closes, and a Β£4.0m starting goalkeeper could be gold dust.
Harvey Barnes (Β£7.0m MID) and Patson Daka (Β£6.0m FWD) were Leicester's joint-top scorers in pre-season with three goals apiece, but of those two, only Barnes is likely to be a starter. Jamie Vardy (Β£9.5m FWD) is still going strong at 35 and should continue to spearhead the Leicester attack. Meanwhile, Leicester's defenders are all priced very cheaply after their poor defensive performance last season, but if Jonny Evans (Β£4.5m DEF) and Wilfried Ndidi (Β£5.0m MID) can both stay fit for any length of time, their defence could be worth investing in again. The likes of Timothy Castagne (Β£4.5m DEF) and James Justin (Β£4.5m DEF) could prove to be underpriced options with their attacking capabilities.

Liverpool's pre-season peaked with their Community Shield victory over Man City on Saturday, a game in which Darwin NΓΊΓ±ez (Β£9.0m FWD) stole the headlines with his late cameo. Previous to that, NΓΊΓ±ez had registered a four-goal haul in their friendly against RB Leipzig. Elsewhere, it's been a mixed bag of results in pre-season, with a routine 2-0 win against Palace in Singapore following a heavy defeat to Man Utd in which Klopp used 32 players. The Community Shield win was followed on Sunday by a 3-0 defeat to Strasbourg at Anfield, a game which naturally featured a vastly-weakened side with the match taking place only 24 hours after the City game.
Diogo Jota (Β£9.0m FWD) missed pre-season with a hamstring injury and is unlikely to be fit for the start of the season. Alisson (Β£5.5m GKP) should return in time for the Fulham game however, having missed the Community Shield and most of pre-season with an abdominal injury. Luis DΓaz (Β£8.0m MID) failed to score in pre-season, although big things are expected from him this season now that Sadio Mane's departure has seemingly cemented his place in the starting line-up.

July 23rd - Bayern Munich 0 Manchester City 1 - Highlights
July 30th - Liverpool 3 Manchester City 1 (Community Shield) - Highlights
Goals: De Bruyne (2), Γlvarez (1), Haaland (1)
City's pre-season campaign was the shortest of any of the teams, with just two friendlies played before the Community Shield match against Liverpool. Pep Guardiola likes to give his players the maximum amount of time off possible in between seasons, even though it often results in his team looking a bit undercooked going into a new season. This season appears to be a similar story, as City looked a couple of weeks behind Liverpool in terms of their fitness preparations judging by their performance on Saturday.
In terms of the friendlies, it was Kevin De Bruyne (Β£12.0m MID) who grabbed the headlines against Club AmΓ©rica with a brace in their 2-1 win in Texas, while in their second friendly match, Erling Haaland (Β£11.5m FWD) scored the winner against Bayern in Wisconsin in a match that was interrupted several times by an electrical storm. Aymeric Laporte (Β£6.0m DEF) missed pre-season - he's sidelined with a knee injury that could keep him out until September. Meanwhile, City's failure to sign Marc Cucurella could be beneficial to Kyle Walker (Β£5.0m DEF), as he and JoΓ£o Cancelo (Β£7.0m DEF) are currently the only two senior full-backs at the club.

Goals: Martial (3), Sancho (3), Rashford (2), Amad (1), Fred (1), McTominay (1), Pellistri (1)
Man Utd drew 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano in their final friendly on Sunday in a match that was notable for Cristiano Ronaldo's (Β£10.5m FWD) first appearance of pre-season. In Ronaldo's absence, Anthony Martial (Β£7.0m FWD) has thrived, but it remains to be seen how Ronaldo's return will affect things going forward. Jadon Sancho (Β£7.5m MID) has also been in fine form with three goals in pre-season. He missed the AtlΓ©tico friendly due to illness although did still travel to Norway with the squad. Marcus Rashford (Β£6.5m MID) has also looked dangerous and scored a couple of goals. With a good goalscoring record against United's GW1 opponents Brighton, he could be worth a gamble for FPL managers.
Diogo Dalot (Β£4.5m DEF) looks to be Erik ten Hag's preferred choice at right-back, although the situation at left-back is less clear. Luke Shaw (Β£5.0m DEF) started the first couple of friendlies but has shared gametime with new signing Tyrell Malacia (Β£4.5m DEF) since then. At centre-back, Victor LindelΓΆf (Β£4.5m DEF) and Harry Maguire (Β£5.0m DEF) have started the majority of the games, but Lisandro MartΓnez (Β£4.5m DEF) has been signed from Ajax for Β£57m and should be first-choice.

Goals: AlmirΓ³n (4), Sean Longstaff (2), Bruno GuimarΓ£es (1), Joelinton (1), Ritchie (1), Saint-Maximin (1), Willock (1), Wilson (1), Wood (1)
Newcastle will begin their first full season under new ownership after a surprisingly quiet summer on the transfer front, with defender Sven Botman (Β£4.5m DEF) and goalkeeper Nick Pope (Β£5.0m GKP) the only major additions to the squad. Eddie Howe has continued to use the 4-3-3 system that worked to good effect last season, with Bruno GuimarΓ£es (Β£6.0m MID) providing goals and Joelinton (Β£6.0m MID) transformed into a ball-winning central midfielder. In defence, Kieran Tripper (Β£5.0m DEF) is the focus of much FPL interest with his dead ball abilities. He assisted both of Miguel AlmirΓ³n's (Β£5.0m MID) goals against Benfica, while on the other side, Matt Targett (Β£5.0m DEF) has some attacking threat of his own.
Up front, Newcastle will hope that Callum Wilson (Β£7.5m FWD) can avoid injury this season. He only scored once in pre-season but will surely score plenty in the Premier League if he can stay fit for an extended period of time. Allan Saint-Maximin (Β£6.5m MID) will start out wide on the left, but the situation over on the right is less clear-cut, with AlmirΓ³n and Jacob Murphy (Β£4.5m MID) seemingly competing with each other for a starting spot. AlmirΓ³n's four goals in pre-season may have earned him a start against Forest in GW1.

Goals: Lyle Taylor (2), Biancone (1), CafΓΊ (1), Cook (1), Johnson (1), Surridge (1)
Forest have made several new signings as they prepare for their first season of Premier League football since the late 90s. Jesse Lingard (Β£6.0m MID) has joined on a free transfer after leaving Man Utd. He made only one appearance in pre-season, playing 77 minutes in Forest's final friendly against Valencia. Lewis O'Brien (Β£5.0m MID) has joined from Huddersfield and will probably play alongside Jack Colback (Β£4.5m MID) in the centre of midfield in Steve Cook's preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.
It looks like Lingard and Brennan Johnson (Β£6.0m FWD) will occupy the two attacking slots behind new signing Taiwo Awoniyi (Β£6.0m FWD), who endured a goalless pre-season. Neco Williams (Β£4.0m DEF) has competition for his place at right wing-back from fellow new signing Guilian Biancone (Β£4.5m DEF), who started the first three of Forest's seven friendlies and also managed to contribute a goal. Harry Toffolo (Β£4.5m DEF) should start at left wing-back, although Williams is capable of filling in there too. Dean Henderson (Β£4.5m GKP) has joined on loan from Man Utd. Steve Cook (Β£4.5m DEF) is Forest's most experienced defender, having previously played five seasons of Premier League football with Bournemouth.

Goals: Adam Armstrong (2), Aribo (1), Stuart Armstrong (1), Ward-Prowse (1)
Southampton found goals hard to come by in pre-season; Adam Armstrong (Β£5.5m FWD) was their top scorer with just two. Ralph HasenhΓΌttl mostly used 3-5-2 in pre-season, although he did switch to 4-2-2-2 for the home win against Monaco. Kyle Walker-Peters (Β£4.5m DEF) started three times at right wing-back, while Moussa Djenepo (Β£5.0m MID) started three times at left wing-back despite not being a defender by trade. Romain Perraud (Β£4.5m DEF) should provide competition for Djenepo after making his comeback from injury against Monaco, although he's unlikely to be ready for the start of the season having only played 53 minutes in pre-season. Tino Livramento (Β£4.5m DEF) remains sidelined with a long-term knee injury.
Up front it looks like Adam Armstrong could be the main beneficiary of Armando Broja's return to Chelsea, with the only striker Southampton have signed so far being the young French forward SΓ©kou Mara (Β£5.5m FWD). Midfielder Stuart Armstrong (Β£5.0m MID) was also given some minutes up front and scored against Monaco. It's not certain who starts in goal, with new signing Gavin Bazunu (Β£4.5m GKP) perhaps the favourite after starting three friendlies to Alex McCarthy's (Β£4.5m GKP) two.

Goals: Kane (5), Son (2), Dier (1)
Harry Kane (Β£11.5m FWD) was in top form in pre-season with five goals. Son Heung-min (Β£12.0m MID) scored a brace in Tottenham's opening friendly but didn't score again after that. Dejan Kulusevski (Β£8.0m MID) will probably start on the right of the front three although looks far from nailed, as Lucas Moura (Β£6.0m MID) and Richarlison (Β£8.5m FWD) were each handed a start in pre-season in that position. There must be a worry for Son owners that Richarlison could take minutes off him this season, although he's suspended for the first game of the season at least.
Much talk in pre-season has centred around Ivan PeriΕ‘iΔ (Β£5.5m DEF). He only made his first appearance in Tottenham's penultimate friendly when he came on for the last half hour, although he did start the final friendly and play 75 minutes, so he probably starts against Southampton in GW1. At right wing-back the situation is less clear. Going by the line-up for the final friendly, Matt Doherty (Β£5.0m DEF) seems poised to start, although he played fewer minutes there in pre-season than Emerson Royal (Β£5.0m DEF) and even Lucas Moura, who is not a wing-back by trade. Spurs have a good run of fixtures in the opening six weeks so owning the right Spurs asset could be key to a good start.

West Ham ended a busy pre-season campaign with a goalless draw against Lens on Saturday. David Moyes mostly used a 4-2-3-1 formation in pre-season, although he did switch to a back three for the final two friendlies, perhaps in preparation for the visit of Man City in GW1. It was a disastrous pre-season for new signing Nayef Aguerd (Β£5.0m DEF) unfortunately, who suffered an ankle ligament injury against Rangers in his first appearance and could be out of action for up to six weeks. Fellow new signing Gianluca Scamacca (Β£7.0m FWD) did not feature in West Ham's final friendly after joining from Sassuolo last week. Scamacca is expected to challenge Michail Antonio (Β£7.5m FWD) for a place in the starting line-up.
37 year-old Εukasz FabiaΕski (Β£5.0m GKP) looks to have retained his place in goal with five starts in pre-season. This is bad news for blah, who has posters of Alphonse Areola (Β£4.5m GKP) on his bedroom wall. There were no goals in pre-season for Antonio or Jarrod Bowen (Β£8.5m MID), although Tomas SouΔek (Β£5.5m MID) did remind us of his attacking threat with goals against Rangers and Luton.

RaΓΊl JimΓ©nez (Β£7.0m FWD) picked up a knee injury in pre-season and could be out of action for several weeks. Morgan Gibbs-White (Β£5.5m MID) is expected to start up front for Wolves with JimΓ©nez out and could potentially rival Pedro Neto (Β£5.5m MID) as a bargain pick in that Wolves midfield. Neto scored three goals in pre-season, as did Daniel Podence (Β£5.5m MID). NΓ©lson Semedo (Β£5.0m DEF) missed pre-season with a hamstring injury, while midfielder Chiquinho (Β£5.0m MID) will likely be out of action until the new year after tearing his ACL against Burnley.
Bruno Lage used a 4-3-3 formation in pre-season as he looks to add more goals to his side. Wolves had one of the lowest xG figures of any of last year's Premier League teams (according to Understat, only Norwich ranked worse). There were certainly signs in pre-season that the goals are beginning to flow, with impressive wins against AlavΓ©s and BeΕiktaΕ. It remains to be seen if this renewed attacking potency will come at a cost to their defence. Nathan Collins (Β£4.5m DEF) has been signed from Burnley and should start at centre-back, although there is uncertainty around who will partner him in defence, with some Wolves fans speculating that Conor Coady (Β£5.0m DEF) may have lost his place.

Yeah the Areola news is a pisser
I watched the last Chelsea match, and Sterling was definitely the central one with Mount left and Havertz right.
