Pep Roulette (22/23)
It looks like this may be a slightly better season to gamble on Pep Roulette than some others. Sterling is gone, Jesus is gone, and between the 5 subs rule and City's tendency to continue attacking until the 90th minute, we could see plenty of goals for second half substitutes.
De Bruyne is probably the most fixture proof, but Grealish looks like a really interesting gamble. Usually plays wide left, was injured last year, really underperformed xG/xA, etc.
Anyway, who's got your eye?

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
It doesn’t seem more straightforward to me. Sterling and Jesus have become Haaland and Alvarez. We know less about how Pep will use them than we did about Sterling and Jesus.
KDB seems the safe bet with him, Gundog, Bilva, Phillips and Rodri most likely competing of the deeper 3. This leaves Haaland, Alvarez, Foden, Grealish and Mahrez for the front 3. Of course Pep’s version of Total Football means anyone can play anywhere.

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
I would expect Haaland to start more often than Jesus did (and Grealish to start more often than last year) - but that just means less spots for the rest to fight over.Mo Bot wrote: ↑26 Jul 2022, 10:41 It doesn’t seem more straightforward to me. Also the issue of left backs. Some say Cucurella (if he joins) will be first choice rather than just a rare option like Zinchenko but I don't see it - although it makes Cancelo more of a gamble.

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
KDB and Haaland should be the most likely to start every game, However they will both get sub'd early imho.
All the other players are probably subject to tactics and opposition, I am trying to reserve that 8m price point somehow as it seems to be the key to reacting to form.

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
I saw lots of speculation about city potentially changing to a 4231 with Rodri and Phillips the double pivot and KDB behind and more free behind Haaland.
That would potentially be something to watch, as a KDB in that kind of role would be worth owning surely.

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
I have Haaland and KDB in my team, alongside Cancelo. I expect roulette won't hit these guys too much apart from getting subbed early. I hope KDB will remain quiet on Saturday to prevent more people flocking to him.

Is that with or instead of Salah?

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
Intriguing. Presuming Cancelo and TAA are locked, and presuming one of Haaland/Kane is locked, and since (at this stage) there are no particularly appealing attacking options below 7.0, I wonder where you'd compromise? In that role, might KDB +1m be preferable to Salah? Who knows? But fun to consider.

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
When I've looked at it, it comes down to trusting one of Neco Williams or Bailey.
E.g.
Sanchez/4.0
TAA, Cancelo, 5.0, Dier, Williams
Salah, KDB, Sancho, Bailey, (Andreas)
Kane, (4.5, 4.5)
There's 0.5 itb there to upgrade one of Williams or Bailey depending on who you fancy most.
The compromises are losing a Liverpool player, losing a third premium defender and losing access to the 8.0 slot (Jesus or any of the 8.0 mids), so not that sure it's worth it although it's a team I'd be relatively ok starting with, perhaps the idea being to sell which ever super premium I don't want over the long term.

If you have 0.5 left, why couldn’t Sancho be Diaz/8m?Mav3rick wrote:When I've looked at it, it comes down to trusting one of Neco Williams or Bailey.

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
I don't think I'd trust that Neco Williams can play every match, so at some point, he will need to be a 4.5 defender. Same with Bailey, the 0.5 is more use over those two positions in that setup I think. Andreas can cover a bit though so maybe it's not a terrible 2 from 3, although I would imagine a lot relies on Bailey keeping his place.
I doubt I'll start that team, its just the "threemium" selection I was most happy with.

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
Ha thanks. I don't place too much value of what happens in pre-season. I could see myself replacing Chilwell for Doherty if Chilwell isn't proven to be fit. And coming back from an ACL injury isn't easy either so I do wonder how explosive he will be.murf wrote: ↑29 Jul 2022, 11:35 With 2 Chelsea defenders may I advise you of this thread: viewtopic.php?t=134554

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
I watch ManCity closely at the moment. If they do not buy another leftback ( I am aware they are interested in Cucurella), Ake could represent very good value at 5m.

Re: Pep Roulette (22/23)
Wouldn't Kyle Walker be the most likely beneficiary (with benefit of team news today, albeit Ake is playing too)? Anyone recall why Walker didn't play at the end of last season - injured or just dropped? Zinchenko was playing left back.

Walker looking like one of City's better players in the first half. Cancelo and De Bruyne playing well too, and maybe Dias but that's about it, imo.

Mahrez has to be a set and forget/rough with the smooth kind of pick. No point trying to stream him, you'll always get Pepped.
