Re: WITH SPOILERS - Wordle And Quordle WITH SPOILERS
Had CA--- after 3.
No proper words fitted so checked some randoms. Apparently CAMPO is a legal word, albeit the wrong one! Gave me the O and eventually spotted the correct answer, a real word (in botanical circles only?) but one that is not a decent candidate for this game's database.

There can’t be many valid words that only contain one of the 21 consonants in the alphabet!

Re: WITH SPOILERS - Wordle And Quordle WITH SPOILERS
Similar to Vid, my starting word and getting the C along with an A and the O in the first two really helped.
A few days ago the same starting word led to a six when most of you had 3’s or 4’s.
FF, for future, there’s no way I’d leave the ‘C’ that late. Not only does it couple with H but it eliminates lots of words in tandem with other letters (that are either includes to excluded)

Strangely enough I often use starting words containing C, but mix it up a bit and it was just by chance I left it to the end along with all the dross letters this time!Smurphy Paw wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 22:53 Similar to Vid, my starting word and getting the C along with an A and the O in the first two really helped.

Anyway, as for today… just not taking any chances with -ER words these days!

Yep, one got me my only X and I thought of that and shuddered when word 1's score pointed me towards ---ER.forestfan wrote:

Felt I had to go for it and almost typed in HOMER but fortunately I saw sense. I stuck with the O option and picked the best 2 letters round it I could think of. I got a 2

Re: WITH SPOILERS - Wordle And Quordle WITH SPOILERS
I have a couple of usual starting words. With one having worked well yesterday I switched it up today. Then, the Wordle word was a logical eliminator as a second word. Just good fortune though.murf wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022, 14:02Yep, one got me my only X and I thought of that and shuddered when word 1's score pointed me towards ---ER.forestfan wrote:

As for Quordle, I presume you were referring to ARMOR? Grrr

I had THURL as an also apparently legal option, but decided THRUM was slightly less obscure.

PRIDE, GHOST and then GAWKY yesterday
Murf - I guess you mean A when you say the second most popular letter, but I don’t really think about it like that. Normally just do it quickly with whatever comes into my head (that fits what I already have)

UTILE? Luckily with my guesses I had all the letters and the I E as greens, but could trip some up.

Seriously, is it a word? In American or English?

I guess “utility” derives from it… I tried “TUILE” first which was also a valid word.

I was familiar with the word, but didn't think of tuile - not sure it would have fitted anyway. Iirc, I had all 5 letters so just needed an anagram.

Re: WITH SPOILERS - Wordle And Quordle WITH SPOILERS
Surprised today’s Quordle stumped so many although there were a couple of tricky words. What unlocked it for me was the unusual feature of finding a letter (N) that was in all four words. Including it again in my second guess helped place it and also gave me the double letter. So after SANER and POINT it fell into place, with only one 50-50 (first letter of GAUNT) I think.

Re: WITH SPOILERS - Wordle And Quordle WITH SPOILERS
These were my guesses today - pretty sure this had a very high luck factor though I didn’t bother checking for other words as each guess seemed pretty sound as a go, even if there were plenty of other words available.

Quordle:
Did we have that word before? Or was it the other way around last time?
I went for SASSY instead SAVVY.....

A Q, a Z and a J in one Quordle, what are the odds of that (if it’s random)?

Went tactical guess 5 and got it in 6 after two oneaways as there was pinch, cinch, winch, linch('A ledge; a right-angled projection.') and ginch(slang men's underwear apparently, viable Scrabble word plus tested and accepted in a quordle practise grid.)

Re: WITH SPOILERS - Wordle And Quordle WITH SPOILERS
I don’t think LINCH or GINCH would be in the solutions list, even if they are allowable guesses (there are 5 or 6 times as many of the latter…)
But yeah, even with 3 possibilities and 2 guesses left there’s no point gambling just to get a 5!

interesting QUORDLE today, July 30
2 words exactly the same as in German, 1 with the same root and one you also use as a car driver here in Switzerland and in Germany!

Yeah, know what you mean! My initial ROATE told me that was highly likely to be the format again today, and so I made a couple of tactical goes - the first gave me a further letter and, with only three options (I think) for the remaining letter, I was able to find a word with all three in, which meant I could escape with a 4.Pirlo's Beard wrote: ↑15 Aug 2022, 00:23 _O_ER words are the Devil's creation and I loathe them with every fibre of my being.

I’m now starting with SANER as per Quordle so I can identify an -ER word straight away. Then find the earlier vowel and fill in the gaps…Hogmeister wrote: ↑15 Aug 2022, 03:02Yeah, know what you mean! Ended up with POWER or POKER after 3, and knew we’d already had the former!
