I was just reading an article on mental wellbeing, a Prof Scott Galloway who "laments young men prefer porn to meeting woman".

"We have what I describe as a generation of failing men because of the easy dopamine hits from trading stocks, crypto, porn and video games. They don't have the same motivation to get out and meet others. There's a winner take all environment in e-commerce, there's becoming a winner take all in mating. One in two relationships now start online. Everyone has access to everyone. The top 10% of males are getting 90% of the attention, meaning the bottom 50% are effectively shut out from the market. So we get involuntary celibates. There's nothing more dangerous than a broke, alone young man. And we are producing too many. The most violent societies all have too many of this cohort."

:( these days I don't see too many "young men" but this goes into the life is rubbish thread for sure. :(

Lucky I’m not broke then (or young, by any standards other than FISO’s!)

The article seems a bit contradictory because it suggests young men don’t have the motivation to meet people but then also that they wouldn’t be successful even if they did. And imagine how bad it would be if the aforementioned other activities didn’t exist (though on a more serious note, they are unfulfilling and potentially addictive ones, just like alcohol and drugs). The online dating point is an interesting one, I’ve never really bought into the idealistic “there’s somebody out there for everyone” but it did seem a bit in the past that people you’d maybe see as less desirable in whatever way would pair up whereas now people are more discriminate and searching for the ideal?

I struggle to find a lot of sympathy for those with far-right leanings, but it’s a fair point that poor young white men with few prospects think “they’re doing all these things to help women, ethnic minorities, gay people, transgender people etc. but what are they doing to help me?” Which is what sees them drawn to such hateful ideologies.

I'm in the Maldives and a monsoon seems to have arrived. Went 100 metres to the bar to bring chardonnays back to villa and almost drowned.

Now that is rubbish.

At the next World Cup there will be a new rule introduced by FIFA. A maximum of 26 (TWENTY SIX) people can sit on each bench.

Having a slightly larger squad I don’t think is too much of a problem, particularly given the heightened illness risk in this era… but having every eligible squad member sat there ready in the full John Terry does feel a bit ridiculous!

Bit late. Wonder if the stadia need some alteration work or if the final squad player will be allocated a deckchair or forced to sit on someone's lap

Got an item from Amazon the other day which I worked out filled 9% of the volume of the box it was delivered in.

At the same time, I received another item that was just sent as it was with an address label stuck on the plastic film!

I trust you are referring to the Director Of Fisheries  They didn't move the walrus over concerns for her safety so killed her instead.

Would probably have died due to the stress of being moved somewhere far enough away that it wouldn’t just swim back.

I was referring to the people that ignored pleas to leave the animal alone. Unfortunately the government have a duty to protect human life, even stupid human life

I do feel that people need protecting from their own stupidity a lot of the time, but there are limits. Intentionally interfering with a wild animal is certainly beyond that limit.
