A Tale of 13 seasons

Post by happyhoppy »

Current table. Got Saka tonight.

Then think of VVD doesn’t start one of Jota (got Diaz) and TAA or wait for Mount, Maddison or Richarlison on Thursday.

If only I’d gone Maddison rather than Richarlison. Missed out on 4th and £50 on goals scored tie breaker. Harsh but a great finish nonetheless.

So 5th in the end or joint 4th as i prefer to look at it :) Super League wrapped up with 2nd, 7th and Mrs HH in 10th so nearly £300 won there. Welcome back to another season of ramblings.

Can’t believe how quickly the season is nearly upon us!

Thrown together this team comments welcome fairly happy with it which is a worry.

Blimey, that is a worry!

Nothing like any of mine - can't believe Bowen, Salisu or the Wolves players will be there at the start. You'll end up with an hourglass team, just like the rest of us :)

Glad you're back, Hoppy. With your recent track record, I'll be regularly visiting this thread for tips!

Opinion on here seems to be divided about Wolves, but no doubt they have great opening fixtures.

I'm no expert on them, but if they decide to stick with the back four they've been using in pre-season it's possible Kilman might have a bit more competition than before, and they've just signed Collins to add to Coady and Boly.

Probably just worth monitoring the rest of their friendlies to suss out the likely formation and CB pecking order.

Can't argue with the rest of your team apart from maybe Salisu, but far be it from me to critique a Saint. :)

Best of luck!

Tend to agree with this. After being delighted they moved all the Salah and Son types into forwards where they should have been, I think they've messed up the midfield pricing. Everyone is about 0.5-1.0m more expensive than they should be. Can't look at Madison say at 5.2 and see any way to justify him similar price to Robertson/Vvd etc. However, you've got to pick a minimum 3 MF in any formation so if you're taking the Johnson/Guimaraes route like most people you need to take a punt on someone. Just not 2 of them. I tend to pick drearily dull starting XIs that I think will get me 44 starts across the first 4 weeks then take it from there, see who's emerging.

Thanks Johnners and interesting comments . I hate the thought of piling my budget into my defence it’s so dull and uninspiring. But probably the way to go early on.

Except early on the return of CSs isn't as high as in mid season when the defences are settled and teams are in a rhythm. i.e. City or Liverpool are more likely to let in odd soft goals in August before they are fully 'in the zone'.

Few years back now but someone did some stats which showed the middle third of the season was best for CSs.

The midfield really is horrible to pick this season.

Surprised more haven't gone for Ward and/or Prowse - who look less over priced than most - how are they looking in pre-season?

👍

Agree with a lot of what Darbyand said, and have to say I'm going with only three mids myself, but sometimes it can pay to go against the grain initially and set one team up slightly differently.

Bowen matched Trent and Robertson season-long for points last year, and I wouldn't discourage you from starting with Maddison, given the way he finished the season. Looking at ffstuff's site, only KDB bettered him for PPG over the final six weeks, defenders included, and he's looked good in pre-season too.

Would be lovely of you to join the rest of us down the dull and uninspiring route, but look forward to seeing how you get on either way.

Both of them apparently had a knock in training, so missed Saints' first two friendlies. They're back now though.

Cheers.

Haven't looked at likely line ups but just roughly throwing a team together I chucked them in. Shame they only take up one place in TFF.

I'll ask in FPLland as I think that's a commonly believed myth...

Why did Romeu miss so many matches last season ie is he likely to be a regular?

@ Johnners I think that’s the way to go have a defence based team and one more balanced

@ Murf JWP was indeed injured and our pre season has been poor so far hardly any goals last 2 were 0.0 so don’t expect many attacking points. We have bought a new striker and have bought a lot of young players time will tell if we lack some experience and PL know how.

@ blah Romeu will have competition and is in his last year of his contract having not signed a new one so I’m expecting his game time to reduce massively. They did play Diallo at the end of last season to give him some games and rested Romeu or at least that’s how it looked.

Here’s a couple of variations. Could drop James/Dias down to 3m player and have Allison over Bazunu.

They're the only team playing euro qualifiers so I don't mind them this season. Likely to be match fit a week or so ahead of the pack. It's what happens down the line...

I’m not very happy that it’s so negative and dull but I’ve got two teams in this league so the other one will be similar to the one you imagined.

My team looks a little similar, strong back 5, but I went cheaper in midfield and more expensive up top, time will tell.
Dele Alli at 3.1, allowed Haaland up top with Salah
