TFF chit chat 17th, 18th and 19th September

Post by morganb »

FRIDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER

Newcastle United 20:00 Leeds United

A Friday night fixture kicks off this week's set of games and it features Newcastle and Leeds United. Newcastle lie in 19th place and will be without Callum Wilson for this one. Leeds are suffering a bad case of second season syndrome and are 17th at the moment. Bamford has only score a single League goal so far. Struijk suspended.

SATURDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER

Wolverhampton Wanderers 12:30 Brentford

Saturday's early game is Wolverhampton Wanderers versus Brentford at Molineux. Wolves recorded their first win of the season last time out, Hwang came off the bench to tap one in. Brentford FC featuring Ivan Toney are gradually sliding down the table, currently in 10th and have only gained 2 points from the last 9 on offer.

Burnley 15:00 Arsenal

The first of the 3pm games is Burnley against Arsenal. Dyche signed a new contract this week but his team are sat in 18th place as I type. Arsenal are in the bottom six but recorded their first goal and their first win against Norwich last weekend. Team news is that Xhaka is suspended and Ramsdale may be in goal for the Gunners.

Liverpool 15:00 Crystal Palace

Next, Liverpool versus Crystal Palace at Anfield. The Reds had a scare in the Champions League in midweek but came out on top in the end. 11th place Crystal Palace ran out victorious against Spurs last Saturday, a brace from new boy Edouard from off the bench. Last weekend Harry Wilson went from potential enabler to months out injured.

Manchester City 15:00 Southampton

Manchester City welcome Southampton to the Ethiad next. Man City recorded a 6-3 win in the Champions League on Wednesday with six different names on the scoresheet. Southampton drew with West Ham last weekend. They also drew with Newcastle the week before and Manchester United in the game before that.

Norwich City 15:00 Watford

The last of the 3 o'clock games sees two newly promoted teams go head-to-head - Norwich v Watford. The Canaries are rock bottom of the Premier League without a win to their name. Watford have won one game, their first of the season, so this could be an early season relegation six pointer.

Aston Villa 17:30 Everton

Saturday's late game is Aston Villa against Everton at Villa Park. Watkins returned last weekend to the Villa side but they still went down 3-nil to Chelsea. Calvert Lewin is missing for the Toffees due to injury, but they didn't miss him in the 3-1 win over Burnley on Monday.

SUNDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER

Brighton & Hove Albion 14:00 Leicester City

Three Sunday games this week, the first of which is Brighton versus Leicester at the Am Ex. The Seagulls currently occupy one of the Europa League spots thanks to 3 wins and a draw so far this season. Leicester are sat in mid-table but have already played a couple of teams who are above them in the table. The Foxes drew in the Europa on Thursday.

West Ham United 14:00 Manchester United

The second of the 2pm games features West Ham United against Manchester United. The Hammers are missing Antonio who was sent off in last week's game. Both sides were in European action this week - a win for the Hammers, a lose for the Red Devils - but Man U have had a couple of extra days to recover. Have you got Ronaldo yet?

Tottenham Hotspur 16:30 Chelsea

And finally a London derby between Spurs and Chelsea. Again both of these teams were in European competitions during the week - Chelsea played on Tuesday, Spurs on Thursday. Lukaku is in good form but Harry is yet to get start for Spurs. Tanganga suspended for this one, Dier is probably out through injury as are Bergwijn and Moura.

Oops. Perhaps I mean Harvey Elliott (!) - I remember watching the Fulham highlights in mid week and thinking I'm sure Harry Wilson is in the Liverpool first team... Anyway, you don't really want either in your TFF team!

Shows how bad my memory is I'd already forgotten about that injury. Get well soon to Harvey though.

An England hat trick for England W. I wonder how often a player with the same name as the team has done that?

pretty settled with my team at minute, but have a niggling issue with Amartey as my cheap enabler...his PPG is crap and may be a rotation risk... and get Jansson of Brentford, a good player for price but in a ropey team; he does seem to be a more regular pick out...thoughts?

If it's an enabler to enabler is there any point? As long as they get 2 points or more a game (with the odd cs thrown in) they've done their job but saying that I see why you're tempted if not starting regularly but until that time why not hang fire? And I'd rather have a Leic def than a Brentford one up until that time.

true - i guess i'm swayed by Jansson's 5.25 points per game.... so far, funds of tight so realistically it would need to be like to like price wise, any bigger players will need re-jigging elsewhere in the team. like you say, just want a rotation-proof enabler i can stick in and forget about :)

Brentford's next 5 games include Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester, with the other two away at West ham and Wolves. I wouldn't be turning to their defence just yet ...

I think you will need to move Amartey on, I'd imagine Evans, Vestergard and Soyuncu are above him in the pecking order with Fofana to come back. At that price only Skipp looks set to start every week but needs a formation change.

I put some early season stats about sub 3m players here:

The TFF e-mail this week is spoon feeding the enablers to the masses. Annoyingly they are all ones I have or who are on my shortlist so they are now jinxed by TFF (after I jinxed Elliott all by myself last week).

Any Wolves fans/experts care to comment on the nailed-onness of their cheapo, Marcal?

Probably picked them up from here, is Fergi still writing it?

I haven't opened one of the emails for a while, is this a weekly feature?

If you’re wondering how many transfers the teams around you in the leaderboard have made, here is a quick breakdown of the average number of transfers made:

Top 100 - 16.39
Top 1,000 - 11.03
Top 10,000 - 6.69

Not sure they give that every week but it is quite regular (and good to know that I am below average!)

It's a bit useless in September with lots of hares and weeklies at the top but more interesting come spring time.

I'm no Wolves expert but i note Marcel is on 2 yellows, tend to get nervous with card magnets.... decent PPG for the money though...

He starts today. BBC line up suggests he is a wing back- which helps explain his 2 assists. Also, same price is Duffy at Brighton with a goal and an extra CS. Both only conceded 3 so relatively tight defences. Anybody got a coin?

Wolves are unchanged for the fourth Premier League game in a row. Substitutes Daniel Podence and Hwang Hee-chan combined for the latter's debut goal in the win at Watford last time out - but both players remain on the bench at Molineux.

Wolves: Jose Sa, Kilman, Coady, Saiss, Nelson Semedo, Neves, Joao Moutinho, Marcal, Trincao, Jimenez, Traore
Subs: Ruddy, Hoever, Ait-Nouri, Podence, Mosquera, Boly, Silva, Hwang (the poor man's Gold, Member?), Dendoncker

Brentford are unchanged from their defeat against Brighton last time out. It's also the same personnel on the bench.

Brentford: Raya, Pinnock, Jansson, Ajer, Henry, Janelt, Norgaard, Canos, Baptiste, Toney, Mbeumo.
Subs: Fernandez, Thompson, Ghoddos, Jensen, Onyeka, Zanka, Forss, Wissa, Roerslev.
