€250K Champions League Knockout phase - discussion

Post by CBN »

Fanteam Champions League

Three transfers each game week and two wildcards...

Looks like there are five game weeks with the semi-finals and final being one game week - is that how others have understood it?

I think the wildcards are overkill tbh but it does introduce an extra strategy dimension - I don't think it's a no-brainer when to use them.

Are the wildcards not fixed between GW2 and GW3 and between GW4 and GW5? or did I get that wrong?

Hmm, you could be right. I just looked at the rules tab and it said two wildcards so I assumed you could use them when you wanted - have you seen anything different?

yes, when you click to select your team, this message appears:

"For each gameweek, you have 3 free transfers. These can not be saved. You can make additional transfers, with a penalty of -4 points per transfer. There is a wildcard to be used between GW2 and GW3, and another between GW4 and GW5. Please note that GW5 includes both semi-finals, and the final!"

Nice one, thanks. Less strategies then which is a shame.

The freeze format wasn't ideal, but at least there was some skill element in balancing early points and budget vs players you expected to progress. But here:

GW1 (GW7) - initial selection.
GW2 (GW8) - three freebies
GW3 (GW9) - a full wildcard reset ahead of leg 1 of the quarter final
GW4 (GW10) - three more freebies
GW5 (GW11) - A full wildcard reset ahead of the semi final and final

Not loving that to be honest. I hope they haven't followed herd feedback on Twitter to make their decision.

Yeah I was looking for something more low maintenance than that. Won't be entering many teams unless it looks like they will fall well under the guaranteed payout.

I don't think you really need many teams tbh.

for now, they don't seem to be advertising it at all. No sign of satellite tournaments either.
I wouldn't expect they get many teams like this

I'm guessing he's already used up his fantasy football budget for this season by going big in the CL group stage game?

He’s given up on the prem game. Hasn’t made transfers in any teams the last two weeks

Quiet in here - I assume everyone's beavering away on teams/strategy

The big favourites starting away from home sure creates a dilemma....

I haven't even looked at mine yet: work, a 3-year old and the Prem game eat most of my time! Tonight, I continually promise myself...

How many teams are you guys entering? I think 3 may be my limit. #LittleHorses

I think I'll do a maximum of four, to be honest. Will be enough to cover a few bases and then just see how it goes.

same here, thinking to enter 4
A lot of uncertainty about it too, with some of the games being played in neutral venues

Am I the only one who didn't realise there is safety net in this?!

entered my team, drafted it, will probably make some late changes, only entering 1 team, would like to enter more but can't keep given fanteam free donations

only 265 entries thus far and it starts in 5 days

it would be much better to incorporate the same editing system Draftkings uses where you can edit your team before each game if your player does not appear in the line up, this would do away with any need for a safety need feature, seems a bit archaic to have a set deadline and then that's it, I do like the 3 transfers/wildcard/3 transfers/wildcard structure however.

maybe we should also keep a little mini league on here for fisoers who've entered teams ? :D

Glad people are voting with their feet based on entry numbers so far as it's the only way they will learn. Close to unlimited transfers and safety net - what a joke of a game.

Yeah having realised it’s safety net I won’t put much time into it as there’s much less skill. Just about getting right the clubs who will go well.

3 City 3 Bayern 5 from pool, juve ,barca is the template.
That's possibly just out of budget. I expect teams to deviate from the above by possibly 1 budget and 1 hidden gem.

Will he finally be able to look past Welsh bias and omit Ramsey? I know his heart is telling him to give Ramsey the armband

Straight in with six teams is young Closer, fair play. I might just do two tbh, teams I build are much of a muchness.

I previously guaranteed to match The Closer on number of entries so guess I'll have to throw half a dozen in even though I'm not a big fan of this tournament format.

Cannot believe how many entries there are - not even 1,000 and their breakeven point is 10,000! Can't see us even getting up to 5,000 though imagine some big multis might come in late on to hoover up a chunk of the overlay. Good news for Ricky - you'd have to be really bad not to cash with these numbers...

there is always a big late pick up in the entries.
Surely there will be at least more than the paid places...

I've cleared my schedule tomorrow evening just in case. Extra profit for merely entering a team would be pretty cool - not sure what that would do for their business model though. Surely there has to come a point where they stop giving away all of this extra money in overlay?!

hope it's not cancelled due to low turnout, they should have promoted it better, pinned it to the top earlier

incidentally, I had Muller in my team, though he has Covid and is out
