Album of the year 2020

Post by unc.si. »

still thinking about it, but a few contenders from looking at what I've been listening to lately:

Fiona Apple - Fetch the Boltcutters
Illuminati Hotties: Free IH
Grimes: Miss Anthopocene
Kelly Lee Owens: Inner song
Phoebe Bridgers: Punisher
Fontaines DC: a Hero's death
Soccer Mommy: Color Theory
Dream wife: so when you gonna
Pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs: viscerals
Sault: Black is
Tired Lion: Breakfast for pathetics
Laura Marling: song for our daughter
Lomelda: Hannah

quite female dominated. Again (so was 2019). No real reason - just seems to be a lot more female artists with great music at the moment.

I can't make my mind up about Ultra Mono. I like it, but it just jars a bit sometimes, and not in a good way.

Think probably its good, just not as good as I was hoping it was going to be.

Yeah I was the same with Ultra Mono. It took a while but I ended up really liking it. Didn't quite have the impact of the first two albums.

I do think 'A Hymn' and 'Reigns' are two of the best songs they have written.

It was my 'go to' rowing machine album a bit ago but I've not listened to it in maybe a month. Might give it another listen later. As I say I think my expectations were probably just too high after 'Joy' and when it didn't blow me away straight away I was a bit disappointed.

listened to RTJ a couple of times but its not grabbed me. Might have to listen to Deftones though. saw that they'd issued a new album about a month ago but not listened to it yet.

Keeping hearing the odd track from either the Fontaines DC or Idles albums and they still aren't doing it for me, so still not bought. Loads of other long established bands with new releases I haven't got either. Just know I'd prefer digging out a random old album to hear again or buying some 'Deluxe' reissue to hear old tracks in a new way.

Think the new Laura Marling album is the only 2020 album I've got!

Think I've listened to more new music over the last couple of years than I have for ages. Not sure what changed really but I definitely have gone back to trying new stuff rather than sticking to what I know, although obviously still listen to a lot of old stuff as well

There was a 'poll of polls' type thing on the BBC the other day but I didn't bother posting it as it was too American biased IMO. They did list the source polls but I only revohnised a few.

If anyone sees a British 'poll of polls'.....

You can filter the "best ever albums" polls in any number of ways, including nationality; here's this year's list at the moment -

https://www.besteveralbums.com/yearstats.php?y=2020

... and filtered with just British acts;
