I suppose if you're watching it on a tablet you could stick it inside your jacket (the tablet, that is)

Take a handmaiden to the toilet and you shouldn't need a tablet.

Today's Guardian ranks the best South Korean films. The Handmaiden comes first, then Parasite, then Oldboy. Here's the full list:

Re: Beerfuelled Movie Appreciation Thread
Ill give Old boy another watch. (It's the first of a Trilogy but seems a tad violent for a sweet natured soul like myself.)
Korean Horror is a but heavy than Hammer etc and the violent ones are way more violent than any US shite....
I've only seen a handful on the list and apart from No1 they are not in my fave list of Korean films as per the violence and horror. If you like these horror then there are a couple of genre-redefining French ones that I know of
Coldfish is even better if you know it is based on a true story - I dread to think which are the true bits In the best possible way it is freaking mental
Guilty of Romance starts with a cut up body attacked attached to mannequin bits resplendent with maggots. Then goes back to portray the events leading up to it.. Again its brilliantly mental with a few rather funny bits\lines.
Thirst is almost certainly the best Vampire film you'll see (imho lol) and has a brilliant ending.
The Taste of Money is a gentle way into Korean cinema in a glam kinda way.
If people like The Handmaiden style re telling the story from different perspectives the Human Capital (Italian) is well worth watching.

For people near Manchester Fopp were doing a Korean thing last week, which I guess is still running after Parasite's success.

Korean films do tend to verge on the surreal. But I get the impression that Parasite is more mainstream

Yeah, but I'll argue against the word surreal until I die, lolBilly Whiz wrote: ↑14 Feb 2020, 19:43 Korean films do tend to verge on the surreal. But I get the impression that Parasite is more mainstream
Taste of Money is "normal" ditto Thirst as far as Vampire films go and it is actually quite realist.
I've just watched the sisters film and it's beautifully shot, but a bit Dallas ie walking out if a shower and the last series was a bad dream. Great performance by the "evil" annoying step mother though.
If you like vacuous horror and senseless violence then that Top 20 is probably good. I'll watch Oldboy again after the 1st in Trilogy, but I'm not expecting to be impressed.

Naa,
Business class flights to here during summer holiday season are nearly £10k so premium economy for me.
Better than cattle class but still not great for 14 hours plus.
I’m hoping storm Dennis might push us along a bit, but will probably be through by the time I come back on Sunday

Internal flight just got delayed. Somehow managed to find someone who understood my terrible Spanish enough to get me on one just about to leave.
They’ve given me a ‘boarding pass’ that’s just a seat number written on a scrap of paper.
Not sure how this is going to go when I get to the gate....

Scrap of paper seemed to work ok,
Ended up staying in a bit of a war zone though. Protests in Santiago are alive and well. Driving past burned out bus shelters, fires in the road, masked students and riot police on the way to the hotel.
Think I might stay in tonight.
Anyway. Movies.......

Ad Astra: Heart of Darkness in space, with a bit of 2001 thrown in. enjoyed it - probably better on a big screen 7/10
baby driver: action thriller with a dash of romance and a big slug of comedy. Plus a fantastic soundtrack. Not exactly deep and meaningful but very enjoyable. 7/10 for the film, plus an extra 2/10 for the music = 9/10

The Meyerowitz Stories. Decent enough comedy about the travails of a dysfunctional (normal) family. Not a laugh a minute type comedy (especially if you see the cast including Stiller and Sandler).

Agreed, a superb (if uncomfortable at times) watch. Phenomenal lead performance, a dark and gritty movie, 9/10Zimmerman wrote:Finally got round to watching The Joker; absolutely brilliant 9/10

Re: Beerfuelled Movie Appreciation Thread
It's the uncomfortable that appeals tbh.
As above I really didn't think it my sort of thing re comic book Yank tat, but the clips look rather good\interesting.
It will be interesting to compare to Parasite, which I doubt is the best S Korean film let alone French or German.

Put on Blue is the Warmest Colour again and it really is very good as are the 2 leads. It's a shame there isn't a cut version to go with the released version....

Was thinking of rewatching Trainspotting, so I started.. except it was T2! Didn't even know there was a sequel!
Can't match the first but it was good.

Loved the ending, Rentboy charging up his music again.. sadly it might mean a return to old ways.
Also liked the fact that nostalgia was hitting Begbie more than I thought.
